I don't mind the post length (whether you're saying this to me or not, I don't know).  He just overdid it and it's annoying.  If there's anything that's evil in the world, it's annoyingness.

I thought Zeth's post was hilarious.  He said exactly what I was thinking, just in a very blunt, sarcastic way.  Though some of you may say NP was only joking, I can't quite agree.  Sure, they'll sugarcoat their statements with lighthearted, overexaggerated descriptions (the X-Box controller for octupi?), but the "jokes" lose their appeal and become sad once you realize just how serious they're actually being.  Tell ya what, visit N-sider Chat at their official website, sit quietly in the background, and listen to the conversations they have, how they mindlessly and factlessly bash the competition and praise the Gamecube, something that is to be expected but is never quite justified and seems just plain wrong coming from the, how to say, wisened Nintendo.  And yes, what will Sony and Microsoft be working on tomorrow?  The very bane of Nintendo if they go into the next generation with THAT attitude, that's what.  The new sense of aggression is good, but the unsubstantiated cockiness just makes them look immature and foolish, and gives one-ups to the competition, in a way.

Quite frankly, for Nintendo to say that NOT having DVD playback is a plus is for them to shot themselves in the foot.  To say that the competition have no good exclusives is just plain stupid, seeing how the industry's hottest franchises are dominant on Sony's system (the Grand Theft Autos, the main Metal Gear Solids, the main Final Fantasies, ect).  Can't quite say the same of X-Box, though, they really DO have only one killer exclusive --- Halo.  The whole color point is stupid, since platinum isn't what everyone has; in fact, most people to my knowledge have the "dust-collecting" black or the often-called-gay purple (and I DON'T think the purple is stupid, in fact, I own it).  Zeth's point of the technically inferior PSX beating the sh*t out of the more powerful N64 is EXCELLENT, and Nintendo, seeing how they want to launch their next system first this time, will probably have the weaker hardware anyways.  The list is just... crap.  It's a more-or-less effective sales point for the uninformed gamer, it's a "whoopidy do!" for the mindless fanboy, and for the more knowledgable people like those here, it's simply... amusing.  Good ol' Nintendo.

The GB Player point is VERY good, though.

Just some simple thoughts.  I'm not bashing Nintendo.  I'm just giving an honest opinion of how I saw the list.  Trust me, I'm less cynical then most of you people ^_^.  I actually like the Four Swords, I never had an issue with Wind Waker's cel-shaded look, and I knew Metroid Prime would be grand in FP view.  So don't think I'm cynical.

Try naming 15 exclusive hit PS2 titles.

Can do Mr. Magazine!

Final Fantasy X, Final Fantasy XI, Sly Cooper, Jak and Daxter, Sky Oddessy, Resident Evil Online, Contra: SS, Tenchu 3, Tekken 4, Guilty Gear XX, Dark Cloud 2, Breath of Fire: DQ, Kingdom Hearts, Devil May Cry, Metal Gear Solid 3

Do I win anything?

, j/k
Some of those points were hilarious and true, and some were just dumb. Yeah, downplay the black cased consoles why don't you? Did they forget that alot of people out there bought the Jet GameCube? Uh-oh, it blends in and you can see the dust on it! Eegads!

How good would it be if Nintendo themselves released all these points in a TV advert or something?
It's pretty pointless having them in a Nintendo only mag.

Vanilla, you make some good points; however, I would like to mention some things:
The comment about the N-Sider chat seems reasonable, until you realize the age of the majority of people there.  Around 12.  They play Nintendo because they like the games and most of them have no idea about other systems.  The few times I have gone the moderators have done a commendable job taking care of the various system-bashers.
Also, you may say that the "cockiness" of Nintendo is nothing compared to what Microsoft and Sony have done.  They have come out in various commercials making it clear that they will do anything to further the idea of GameCube as a "kiddy" console (I still hold my position that this list is a joke, but this is in response to your statement).
I will say outright that between my group of friends, we own all three consoles and play them quite often.  I say this because I believe the DVD playback is not a necessity.  I view my GameCube as a game machine, it doesn't do anything else or need to do anything else for that matter.  Sure DVD playback is nice, but in 2005 when the next consoles come out (or even 2006), DVD players will be even more common if not standard in every household, so to say they are shooting themself in the foot is ridiculous.
Ok, your point about the exclusives for Playstation is taken, but what other games do they have besides the 2 (or is it 3?) GTAs, the 2 Metal Gears, and the 3 Final Fantasies.  Nintendo has more bigger names, it's that simple.  Oh, and Halo isn't an Xbox exclusive, so I don't even know what one they are counting.
The color point.  Nintendo is a business, if Sony were to release a blue PS2 tomorrow, don't expect to see the black version in their commercials anymore, they would market what is new and cooler; that is all Nintendo is doing, don't take it the wrong way.
The point about PS's sale superiority to N64 is taken, but that is not the point.  The list is of reasons why it is better, not why the sales are less.  Oh, and Nintendo wants to launch their next system alongside the competition, not a year before like PS2 was.

The list is just... crap. It's a more-or-less effective sales point for the uninformed gamer, it's a "whoopidy do!" for the mindless fanboy, and for the more knowledgable people like those here, it's simply... amusing. Good ol' Nintendo.
It's not crap, it did everything it was supposed to do.  It gave the young fanboys reasons to go yell across the schoolyard at their friends, and it amused the older crowd.  You're correct: Good ol' Nintendo

I loved the list! It should make every GameCube owner more then proud to be owning a GameCube. I bought my platium GCN at launch last fall, and I am very happy with it. In my opinion, if Nintendo advertised this list on tv it would cause GameCube sales to surge! I am glad that Ninteno is starting to fight back, and they will no longer left Microsoft nor Sony push them around anymore.

I think the whole putting "ROTFLMAO LOL" (yes, when meant as a joke, I DO understand) is so homo now. It was funny 2 ye...wait no, it was never funny. Anyway, I really did like the part about counting all of the XBox hits on 1 finger. That was a classic.

A couple of points real quick.  I am pretty sure Nintendo meant series, making some of those non-exclusive.  Also, FFXI isn't confirmed to be exclusive yet.  A PC port is more than likely.

I love how everyone can complain that Nintendo needs to change their business practices while deriding "sinking down to Microsoft and Sony's level" (the fact that Microsoft's "level" would be listing Metroid Prime off as an XBox exclusive game on their website notwithstanding).  The thing is, if Nintendo took this to TV, it probably would be considered better in the eyes of casual gamers.

..or we could go back to two guys on a couch rapping about Link, and I don't think anyone wants that.

Amen!  Now I'm not an X80xoR but I'd have to say that M$ does have a couple neat titles coming ahem.. someday to their console exclusivly: Halo 2, B.C., Fable, Brute Force, Conker, Perfect Dark, and True Fantasy Live.  Those look interesting.  Of course if we are talking about what has been released that is really good we have Halo, DOA3(never played but everyone says its good.. can't beat SCII or Smash Bros in my opinion), and Splinter Cell(yeah its coming to GCN soon but it was theirs for a long time for sales), and jeez that's about it.  The games I listed I'll prolly be getting.  That's about it but yeah GCN and PS2 offer a lot more to be happy with.  Still the one finger being exclusives should have really meant killer appz.  That would have been a better phrase to go with.

Nintendo needed their day to belittle the competition.  At times, they stretch the truth in order to do so.  But so did Sony and Microsoft when belittling the competition.

"1. Exclusivity. The GCN offers The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, Metroid Prime, Resident Evil Zero, Super Mario Sunshine, Eternal Darkness, Animal Crossing, Star Fox Adventures, Final Fantasy: Crsytal Chronicales, Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes, Mario Kart, Metroid 2, Star Wars: Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike, Pikmin II, Resident Evil 4 and Soul Calibur II as Link. (That's 15 exclusive reasons GCN reigns supreme.) Try naming 15 exclusive hit PS2 titles. As for Xbox, you can count the number of exclusive hit titles on one finger."

Nintendo needs to make a commercial where they say that quote above in 30 seconds! and then just "think about it.... Nintendo" end of commercial.... man that'd be badass!

The only reason I'm glad to see Nintendo doing this is because Sony and Microsoft have taken several (cheap) shots at Nintendo and their so called "kiddie strategy."  You have to remember, your everyday average Joe gamer only hears the shots one company takes at another and that's usually the only thing they are interested in.

Wow, i am in shock and awe. That was probably the best piece of marketing ive ever seen from Nintendo. haha one finger, thats classic! They should make an advert on tv about this! Or something along the lines of;

"So playstation 2 can play old psx games? Well the Nintendo Gamecube can play gb games *footage of the old tetris on the tv screen*, gameboy colour games *show pokemon or super mario footage*, gba games *show golden sun, mario kart etc.*, sega genesis games *show sonic mega collection*, n64 games *show OOT and master quest (remember that casual gamers are very stupid and gullible ) * and what can playstation 2 play? old playstation games? pfffttt, wow *in sarcastic voice*."

Nintendo really needs to adopt this kind of attitude if they want to be the leader of the industry.

Uh... Nintendo forgot one. MechAssault. That's one kick-arse Xbox game.
But who cares? This is great! Go Nintendo! They need to put an advertisment with this list on it in every big video game website, Electronic Gaming Monthly, TV, and the Official Xbox Magazine.
