Color Coded Game Cases Based on Ratings

Wii Games Aimed At Teens And Up Get Black Boxes

Quote
Starting this year, all Nintendo games rated CERO C and up (that’s 15+) will be packaged with black boxes.

Nintendo announced the change shortly before the release of Zangeki no Reginleiv, Nintendo’s first “M” rated (well, M equivalent) game in Japan. Previously, CERO C (15+), D (17+), and the rare Z (18+) used standard white covers. CERO C games include Ghost Squad, Disaster: Day of Crisis and WWE 2008 Smackdown vs. Raw. Onechanbara: Bikini Zombie Slayers, No More Heroes, and currently every Resident Evil game on the Wii.

The black boxes are meant to be another warning for parents, on top of the colorful CERO labels on the spine and the CERO stamp on the cover. This packaging may actually have a benefit too since these games will standout against the basic white box art.

So far, Nintendo is the only company to do this. CERO C and even heavily restricted CERO Z games are not required to have different boxes or covers in Japan.
I'm really hoping hey do this outside of Japan. That box art for Reginleiv look much better on black.

as long as they don't make E rated games yellow or pink, i'm down for this. That box actually looks pretty sweet in black (though not all cover artworks will).

Oh good mop, that looks hideous. I hope this doesn't infect other territories, as I hate it when colours like this ruin the uniformity of a system's games.

Actually, the red case is the only thing it did wrong.

I have collector's OCD, but I can't speak for anyone else. I think we (collectors) are the only ones who care about this sort of thing.

The red case bothered me a bit, but not as much as the games that used a non-white background on the spine of the case (such as Lego Star Wars and Geometry Wars: Galaxies).

It doesn't look as neat to have various colours of cases on a shelf as opposed to one uniform colour.

Probably, there are always exceptions. Though I've not talked with any who haven't despised them.

I guess you missed the weird people last gen who said they would pay more to get the non-Player's Choice/Greatest Hits/Platinum Hits version of a game. Nevermind the fact that you only see the box when you are getting the disc out or putting it back in. Thankfully I have never met anyone in person who is so anal that they have a problem with the box (other than the crappy custom made ones GameStop uses).

Which ones? The GameCube Player's Choice titles had a very small yellow bar at the top, you could barely notice it.

The PS2 Greatest Hits boxes, on the other hand, were bright red and pretty ugly. The worst of the three were the Xbox Platinum Hits boxes.

You know what Nintendo should do, is put a pic on the spine of a bunch of different games(in a series, from a specific developer, or at random) that when put together form one giant picture like some magazines used to do a few years back.

Nintendo Power did that when I subscribed in the mid-90's. You put them all together and it made pictures of Link, Mario and Donkey Kong.

You guys got a golden box?!?!

Except they messed up the picture of Mario and erroneously printed one of the spines on two different issues, and Mario ended up having three eyes.
