This announcement reminds me that I still need to finish Pikmin 2.  I just get sooooo bored in those caves.

Yeah, I need to finish it too. Also the first one.

This does make things at E3 a little easier to handle yes?  Ok...no it doesn't...but it is a no brainer that I am glad is announced.

Personally, I think Pikmin is a great game that I just did not get into unfortunately.  I always wanted to try Pikmin 2, but haven't had a chance.

I hope Pikmin 3 is for the Wii, and I would love it to use Wii Motionplus, so that we can have more precision with our commands.

Ian commented on being upset if it was just Pikmin for the DS...and I would agree that instead of a Wii game it would be disappointing if Pikmin was only for the DS.  That being said...Pikmin is a perfect game for the DS...and controls would work fantastic for that game.

There is no Nintendo sequel that I would rejoice over more than this.

Holy crap, something positive from I...

But this isn't enough info for me.  It gives me hope sure but it's not enough.  This could be on the DS and I want it on the Wii.  It could be a spin-off.  It could be altered for non-gamers.  It could be farmed off to some B-team.  It could be a remake.  So I want to see it first.  I want to hear impressions.  I want confirmation that it's what I actually want.  A few years ago "we're working on this" was good enough but not anymore.  I'll admit it makes me a bit giddy if I think too much about it but I've got to stay grounded.  I don't trust Nintendo anymore so I have to wait and see

an...Never mind, everyone, sorry for the false alarm...

Yeah Ian's being paranoid and obsessive, as is obvious to any observer.

I'm excited.

I really hope there's online co-op.  I never did get to play co-op in Pikmin 2 because none of my friends (who live close by) were interested in the game.

Also, I hope they don't add any additional Pikmin types; five is plenty, thanks.

For the record, Odama kicked ass and I'd like another one. Thanks.

And Animal Crossing because nothing says hardcore like a game that even though you play the heck out of it, you can never beat it!

Naah, you can't beat The Sims either.

Sims is hardcore as well, duh. :P

A lot of people assume that the DS touchscreen and Wiimote are both perfect for Pikmin.  To me part of the wonder of the game was that it was kind of an RTS but done on a console and done in a way that it not only worked without a mouse but you had no desire for one.  Same with Metroid Prime which had FPS elements but found a way to make it work on a controller and in a way where if you weren't being a close minded "this should be a Halo killer" jerk you didn't need it.  In fact if Pikmin was more popular the same people who complained Metroid Prime didn't control like Halo would have complained that Pikmin didn't control like Starcraft.

So I'm a little concerned about using the obvious mouse-like features of the Wiimote or touchscreen in Pikmin.  To me that goes against the whole point of the game.  It's not supposed to be a run of the mill RTS.  I like Metroid Prime 3 but it felt like it catered more to people who wanted an FPS instead of the people who liked the other Prime games.  I would like Pikmin 3 to be for people who liked the other two Pikmin games.  For example if they change it so you can command Pikmin from afar without Olimar or some other "general" like character I think it would really hurt the design.

It's all like auto-jump in Zelda.  The people who see a third person 3D game and think it has to play like Super Mario 64 demand a jump button.  Anyone who actually plays the game without wanting it to be something it's not realize auto-jump is perfect for the game its in and that adding a jump button would either be useless or would affect the game design to make it more of a platformer.  Pikmin would not benefit from playing more like an RTS.  It benefits from being different.

Even if the way you commanded the Pikmin stayed basically the same, I still think it would benefit from using the pointer to target your throws or direct their swarm (replacing the C-stick).  Those things worked okay with the regular controller, but they were still sort of clumsy.  It would be nice to have the added precision and flexibility of the pointer, without drastically changing the gameplay.  So for example, you could "strafe" while throwing Pikmin at a fixed target.  I don't think that would break the game.

Yeah!  Finally!  This game has been screaming for a Wii and DS port.  Let's hope they don't goof up the game play or make "the adventures of the blue pikmin" or some nonsense.

vvv yeah.  no.

I hope this is a Pikmin tamagotchi.  That would be awesome.

i think pikmin3 will be more like RE4:Wii Edition where controls were tweaked in an obvious way and didn't change anything just improve things.

Sorry about my rant guys. I was still pissed off from press conference and needed to vent. I calmed down now.
