 Majesco Entertainment Surpasses 500,000 Unit Mark for ‘Cooking Mama’ on Nintendo DS™

EDISON, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Majesco Entertainment Company (NASDAQ: COOL), an innovative provider of video games and digital entertainment products for the mass market, today announced that its award-winning Nintendo DS™ video game, Cooking Mama, has shipped more than 500,000 units to retail since its launch 11 months ago.

“We are excited by the sales performance of Cooking Mama as it reinforces Majesco’s content and platform strategy," said Ken Gold, vice president of Marketing. “We look forward to further building the franchise while introducing new players to the fun and unique gameplay within Mama’s kitchen."

Developed by Office Create and licensed from Taito, Cooking Mama has received several industry honors including: “Most Innovative DS Design of E3 2006" from leading video game website IGN; and GameDaily’s “Nod Award," which called Cooking Mama “a fun DS game that uses the stylus to near perfection."

Cooking Mama challenges players to use the stylus as a master kitchen tool to cook 76 real world dishes ranging from pepperoni pizza to cabbage meat rolls. Under Mama’s watchful eye, players must first prepare ingredients, then combine, cook and present the final meal all via the Touch Screen. Players can even “cool down" dishes by blowing into the DS microphone and share their favorite recipes with friends via the DS wireless link.

Cooking Mama for the Nintendo DS complements Cooking Mama: Cook Off for the Wii™ home video game console. Majesco has recently announced the DS sequel Cooking Mama 2: Dinner with Friends which it expects to release in its first fiscal quarter, and will be sharing details soon on the Wii™ console sequel expected this spring. For more information on the franchise, please visit www.cookingmamacookoff.com or   www.majescoentertainment.com.

Yay for Majesco! I just wonder how many units Cooking Mama for the Wii sold...

A glooming peace this morning with it brings;
The sun, for sorrow, will not show his head:
Go hence, to have more talk of these sad things;
Some shall be pardon'd, and some punished:
For never was a story of more woe
Than this of Sega and her Mashiro.

Well I'm sure it would of sold more if Majesco released it at 30 dollars. But I'm positive it did a good round up.

I've heard some people estimate Cooking Mama Wii at anyewhere from 80k to 150k, so I guess so.

Whatever number of units it is, it's too many. That game sucked and it's an embarrassment to the DS version.

According to the latest issue of EGM it was something like 70K (this is from memory, so I may be a few thousand off; it was definitely less than 100K).
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!
