  Cool Herders For The Nintendo DS

  Alten8 is pleased to reveal the first title for the Nintendo DS to be released by Alten8 during 2007. Working closely with Harmless Lion Studios, Alten8 is bringing this title to the market which will appeal to a wide variety of players of all ages, and genders. With bright colourful characters, and good game play, lead your flock of sheep to safety, protect them from dangers , and don’t just follow the herd…!!

  Four player wi-fi action will feature in this great game, which is based on its creators original Dreamcast version but with all new features for the DS. It is a perfect first market entry for Alten8 as a publisher, to launch itself into the console market. Full details will be released over the coming weeks of both this, and the other future console titles from Alten8.

  Alten8 has a range of ten, DS games in production and confirmed. This number is set to grow over the coming weeks with other further games in discussion. Some of the games under development will also cover PC and Wii versions as they progress, giving Alten8 various multi-format title releases.

  Alten8 will both publish these games itself in some regions, and in partnership with other interested companies, for regions not yet covered or signed. Alten8 welcomes interest from third parties in this future DS range, or other content or business services it can offer.

I did some research and this is like some really small indie-ish outfit that's developing this! They actually published Cool Herders on the DC (how? through VMU? More investigation is required!) and now they're porting this neat little game to the DS, which makes me feel all warm inside!

Here is their product page on their website.

AND here is a youtube video of a demonstration of Cool Herders on the Dreamcast!!!

Edit: They have really simple sprite graphics, and AWESOME MUSIC!!!!!!

Seems like a great little fit for the DS... Hey HarmlessLion! Any possibility at all for single-card multiplay???

A glooming peace this morning with it brings;
The sun, for sorrow, will not show his head:
Go hence, to have more talk of these sad things;
Some shall be pardon'd, and some punished:
For never was a story of more woe
Than this of Sega and her Mashiro.

I'm totally confused.  I did research down a different path over at Alten8, the company that released the press release.  Hmm.  Did this game already come out somewhere?

Yeah.... the Dreamcast. I don't know how they published this game on the DC in the US, but apparently they did. Maybe through a VMU hack or something?

... One of my dormmates owns a Dreamcast... hmmmm...

It was an unlicensed release, on a plain CD ROM, only sold online. =)

After seeing the wolf concept art, I just knew Infernal would show up in this thread.

I wouldn't say the independent DC games are unlicensed by Sega. It's a dead system and I do not believe that the games must be licensed if they aren't sold through major retail channels.

I could be wrong though.

I hear this will have the highly controversial "Over the Fence" minigame...
"OK, first we need someone to complain about something trivial. Golden or S_B should do. Then we get someone to defend the game, like Bill or Mashiro. Finally add some Unclebob or Pro666 randomness and the thread should go to hell right away." -Pap64

I own Cool Herders for Dreamcast.  It has some jazzy music and a wacky story.  The gameplay is like Bomberman except that you are trying to collect sheep.  None of my friends seemed to like it but I thought it was alright for $20.
