Nintendo Raises Financial Forecast
« on: January 09, 2007, 05:02:03 PM »
They also expect DS hardware and Wii software to do better than initially predicted.

In a press conference today in Japan, Nintendo announced that they would be raising their profit forecast figures for their 2007 fiscal year, set to end on March 31.

Previously, Nintendo was looking to make a net profit of 100 billion Yen ($870 million).  Not anymore, since they now are looking at a 120 billion Yen (over one billion dollars) profit, a 20% increase for this year and a 22% jump from last year's profit total.  The reason?  By the numbers, Nintendo will be seeing their net sales skyrocket to 900 billion yen ($7.8 billion).

The big reason for the money spike, as if you needed us to tell you, is the continued ass-kicking and name-taking of the DS.  According to Bloomberg.com, Nintendo has also increased their FY2007 shipment targets for the handheld to 23 million units, up 15%.  DS game sales should also hit 100 million worldwide, which is a 22% increase from Nintendo's previous predictions.  Since DS systems are virtually selling out as fast as Nintendo can ship them off to stores, these sales expectations are probably a sign that Nintendo has significantly increased DS production.

Nintendo also said they would sell 22 million Wii games by the end of March, which is 5 million more than originally stated.  Despite all of this forecast raising, Nintendo is keeping the Wii worldwide sales number the same at 6 million.  Likely, the only reason for not forecasting more Wiis sold is that Nintendo simply does not have the capacity to produce more than that before April.

With the DS DOMINATING in Japan (until the Wii came out, it was selling more than every other system COMBINED) and doing great everyone else as well, and the Wii being a huge hit, I am not surprised.

I like Dr. Evil.

I should think Nintendo could do more than 6 million Wiis if it really wanted to.  I mean, from September to December it managed to produce close to 4 million (from the looks of things).  I guess either it really can't, or maybe it's being conservative and assuming demand is dropping off.
That's my opinion, not yours.

I wonder if 6 million by march will be enough to stem demand or if we are looking at a few more months before the system is widely available.

When will somebody post an animated image of the Wii printing money?

Vherub:  I believe that demand for the Wii should be pretty high throughout the summer for the system.  It may die down periodically, but with each big new game released it should have a huge spike in demand and sales.

While the Wii is a success, it's still at it's infancy so it's a bit too early for that... BUT...

Looks more like a money blaster. It could fire money fast enough to kill people with paper cuts.

BTW, you need to improve the mouth a little in that picture. It looks a little odd right now.

Hey Nintendo, we've been friends for a while.  Yeah, well I've hit some harder times lately and you know I've always been there for yah.  I mean, remember the virtual boy?  Yeah, I was there.  Well I was wonderin' if I could borrow a few million yen.  I know I know... but just this once, you know I'm good for it.
