It's a shame that Broodwars doesn't consider the site worth supporting at all, but everyone has to make their own choices about where to spend their limited resources.

Just not enough money to go around, man. Just had to drop $530 on a car repair a few weeks ago. I wouldn't rule it out in the future, but right now I don't really have expendable income to throw at sites like this.

Hey - no worries. I fully understand how scarce money can be and how everyone has to make individual choices about how to best use what they have.  Some people honestly don't have a extra $1 per month to offer.

For the dummies & patreon illiterate, anyone mind answering me when are the funds withdrawn from your account each month?  At a cursory glance, I couldn't find this info on the website.

I just realized I've been active on the forums for almost 6 years now..., so if I can get answers to these, then I think I can commit a few bucks a month to a website which has provided me hours of good podcast material, interesting articles to read, and a community which I enjoy being a part of.

It's the 1st of the month as said above by Tophat.  I'm not sure I was given the date until I received the confirmation email.

So... I want to speak for a second about why I gave to the NWR patreon drive.

It has nothing to do with my extensive history with the site, my mod status, or my love of Nintendo.  Heck, sorry, NWR - but I rarely listen to the podcasts (just don't have time... gimme an article to read!).

NintendoWorldReport is one of the very few websites that focuses on gaming and Nintendo.  Sure, there are occasional sales pieces or other newsy things - and those are okay.

But what we don't get are the "GamerGate" things (from either side).  We had a thread on it that was pretty unmemorable, but never any real site-wide discussion.  When a forum member made some nasty comments about a prominent female rumors source, they were shut down, hard, and with virtually no objection - because it's clear we are a welcoming community that just won't tolerate it.  The recent kurffle with Ms. Rapp - I don't think we even had a thread on it (and, honestly, without reading Reddit, I likely wouldn't have heard anything about it, nor did I even know who she was beforehand) - because it's not games.

We may all s*** on Ian or complain about s*****y mods doing a s*** job, but we still have a decent amount of respect for our fellow gamers as people - and this is a community I want to be a part of.
Just some random guy on the internet who has a different opinion of games than you.

Hey all - thanks for the support so far. It means the world.

In retrospect, starting the Patreon the weekend before PAX East might have been a dumb idea since I was basically out of commission for 4 days. But feel free to ask any questions here and I'll answer to the best of my ability.

Geez, now I sorta want to back just because this is a place where UncleBob posts.

What I'd support: a flat goal pledge drive that is equal to last year's hosting and domain cost, plus maybe 15%. Compare your alexa rank over time to nintendolife, a much newer site. You don't get Patreon pledges and then a 'renewed commitment to creating original content' follows. It's the other way around. The site has history and talent, yes. Let's freshen up the drapes. And it's the same cabal of posters commenting on every article. The community is stagnant.

The comparison to Nintendo Life is very flattering. Keep in mind they have several full-time employees. We are all doing this for fun.

A flat goal pledge drive would just mean we break even every month. If we want the site to grow and develop in any way, that won't happen by doing that.

Nintendo Life is a nice looking site. I appreciate their dedication to reviewing digital content, although those reviews are not as good as they once were for a variety of reasons.

A goal to emulate their growth would be fine, as long as that goal doesn't compromise the quality of content provided here. (Personally I find original content from NWR to be more colorful and more critical - both qualities I appreciate because I don't want/need another bland news aggregation site.)
