New Batman Game Revealed for Wii and DS
« on: February 23, 2010, 09:46:43 AM »
Batman: The Brave and the Bold is coming to a Nintendo console near you this fall.
 http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/newsArt.cfm?artid=22615

Today, Warner Bros. revealed Batman: The Brave and The Bold, a new Batman game in development exclusively for Nintendo platforms.  The game, based on the animated series of the same name, is set for release in fall 2010.  Both the Wii and DS version are being developed by WayForward.

The game features Batman, Robin, Green Lantern, Blue Beetle, and more, including cameos by characters such as Aquaman.  The TV series is lighter in tone than previous Batman animated shows, and the game takes a similar slant on the Batman franchise, as it is aimed at all ages.

The Wii and DS versions of the game will be able to connect, which allows another playable character, Bat-Mite, to be unlocked in both games.

Batman: The Brave and the Bold will feature numerous environments, such as street alleys, alien planets, underground cities, and laboratories. It also features Batman's trademark gadgets, such as the Batarang and the Grapnel Gun.

WARNER BROS. INTERACTIVE ENTERTAINMENT ANNOUNCES BATMAN: THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD THE VIDEOGAME

Hit Animated Series Brought To Life on Wii™ and Nintendo DS™ for Kids and Families to Play Together

BURBANK, Calif. – February 23, 2010 –
Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, on behalf of DC Comics, announces Batman: The Brave and the Bold the Videogame, an action-adventure videogame based on the popular animated series, available this fall for Wii™ and Nintendo DS™.  In the game, fans play alongside Batman and many of his allies in the DC UNIVERSE to take on dozens of popular villains.

Batman: The Brave and the Bold the Videogame fully immerses fans into the vivid animated world of the successful TV series where kids can play as Batman or together with family and friends in two-player co-op mode. Players can choose from iconic characters ROBIN, GREEN LANTERN, BLUE BEETLE, along with drop-in heroes such as AQUAMAN to help solve puzzles and fight foes.     The game provides maximum replay value to those who own both the Wii and Nintendo DS versions by allowing them to connect the two systems to unlock BAT-MITE as a playable character.  Players can control him with the Nintendo DS to wreak havoc or fight alongside the main characters in all levels of the Wii videogame.     "Batman: The Brave and the Bold the Videogame further illustrates the diverse appeal of the Batman brand and the gameplay is a fun, vibrant extension of the animated series," said Samantha Ryan, Senior Vice President of Development and Production, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. "The game’s co-op play offers kids, families and Batman fans an interactive way of experiencing the cartoon’s iconic characters."

In Batman: The Brave and the Bold the Videogame, players embark on an exciting journey through crime-filled alleys, alien planets, abandoned underground cities and mysterious laboratories. Further lending to the authentic cartoon feel of the game is the inclusion of Batman’s iconic gadgets such as Batarangs and his Grapnel Gun.

It'd be nice if they had a screenshot of this, but I'm intrigued regardless. I love Batman and WayForward.

Perhaps Arkham Asylum has raised my anticipation for future Batman titles a bit too much, but with Wayforward at the helm, I too am looking forward to this.

Yay, a Batman game based on the most underwhelming of Batman cartoon interpretations (that's not Superfriends).  ::)

I miss the days when the DCAU (and Teen Titans) dominated children's television.  Hell, even The Batman grew to be a decent show, but I just can't for the life of me get into this Silver Age-style Batman show.

I love the DCAU (except Teen Titans). I also consider Justice League Unlimited to be one of the greatest television shows ever made. I hated The Batman, and I enjoy The Brave and The Bold.

I would totally play a game based on this world. Here's to hoping it is good.

I like the light hearted nature of TBaTB cartoon.
I will keep an eye out for this one and even though I've always wanted to play AA, I'm not expecting this to be anything like that at all. I just hope it's good and that they make good use of connectivity.

and since there will be a Aquaman cameo, I'm hoping there is a water level where you get to use Batman's most famous of forgotten trademarked items. Shark Repellent.

Way to go WayForward!

You seem to have COMPLETELY forgotten about The Batman from a few years back. Or maybe you just blocked it from memory. Which would be perfectly acceptable.

Oh, I just read the rest of your post and I have to say "what." Brave and the Bold isn't anything special, but The Batman was just bad.

If you didn't see beyond Season 1 or 2 of The Batman you can't make that claim.  While the show had occasional run-ins with good episodes in those first 2 seasons, the show just took off in the 3rd and just got better from there.  IMO, by the 4th season the show was putting out episodes that could compete with some of the best from Batman: The Animated Series.

I've actually enjoyed some episodes from Brave & the Bold, but it's just not my kind of Batman show.

I'm sorry but someone doesn't have to watch more than two seasons of any show to say its bad.  You can tell me it gets much better in the later seasons but you can't tell me I have to watch more than 13 hours of a show before I can say its bad.

If Wayforward is making this game I am all over it.  I am a big fan.

Box art is pretty bad, but Plastic Man? WIN. He was my first super hero as a kid. I wore out a VHS tape from the local rental store.

WayForward seems like a good choice for this kind of game, as long as they are given the time and budget to do it well.

I have to disagree. The first "season" (I don't consider it a real season since it was like 4 episodes) of Seinfeld was terrible, and even the second season was mediocre.

I saw it, but it's not a usual thing for me to click through onto the main site, so I posted then both in the forum too. Also so i could point out Plastic Man, since he wasn't mentioned in the press release.

I watched more of The Batman than I care to admit, and it's a pile of garbage with an occasional bright spot. I'll admit that Batman: The Animated Series is on a bit of a pedestal for me, but even still. I dislike that show.

I was initially against Brave and the Bold, but I warmed up to it more over time. At least it's doing something new instead of aping off of Batman: TAS.

Brave & The Bold is basically Silver Age Batman. Isn't there some episode coming up (or maybe it's already been on) where Batman runs into an alternate version of himself voiced by Kevin Conroy?

Now they just need Adam West.

Adam Weeeest...Adam Weeeest...a little softer now...adam weeest...adam wessst. I'll hide here until everybody's gone!

I haven't seen the show in quite some time, but I have seen a few episodes and I really liked it. It wasn't dark batman, but it was still entertaining and sometimes, downright hilarious.

I hope the game turns out well.

There was an animated Batman show I watched in the early to mid-90s which wasn't too bad. It wasn't quite as "teeny-bopper" as this newer animated Batman show is.

Whatever happened to the animated action shows of the 60s-early 90s? We used to have He-man, G.I. Joe, Jonny Quest, and so forth. Now we have Tween garbage.

I really hope this turns out well.

And to all those people on the internets bad mouthing Brave and the Bold - screw you.  I'm loving this series.  Don't get me wrong, I like the grim and gritty Batman - but, man, we've had so many grim and gritty superhero movies/shows of late (I was going to list them, but I'll sum it up with "virtually everything"), it's just so refreshing to realize that comics can be fun.
Just some random guy on the internet who has a different opinion of games than you.
