Monster Hunter 3 looks beautiful. I wasn't expecting this much from it. Now, I wonder if the PSP fans will migrate over to the Wii?

My only issue with MH3 is in a gameplay video the camera looked pretty horrendous. It looked like the person playing was struggling to keep it in the direction they wanted.

This should make so much money that Capcom spends the leftover revenue on new Zack and Wikis.

Didn't you feel squeamish with the underwater scenes?

That water segment gave me chills and I have to think hard about getting it now since I am scared to death of water levels.

I get freaked out by underwater levels, too, but that footage didn't deter me one bit.  What freaks me out is the not knowing.  It actually helps quite a bit if I already know the water is teeming with monsters.  It also helps that the character in MH3 is clearly not helpless in the water, which is the other thing I hate about underwater levels.

I also hate water levels, but that revolves more around me fearing drowning in games...

oh god i forgot about that eel! then they had that giant thing in sunshine where you had to spray its teeth...

Still, its pretty bad that the freaking loch ness monster type thing in that level of SM64 freaked me out when the damn thing couldnt even harm you. Weird that a few of us have a sort of common phobia..

Indeed. I've had similar headaches with the PSP iterations. While the PSP ones had some fun, they also had many small frustrations (would it be too much to have a lock-on camera or see some monster health?). Looking at the MH3tri gameplay walkthroughs, it looks like they pretty much kept alot of the design from the PSP ones. A good and a bad thing, if you ask me.

Well probably the worse segment I've encountered is in Majora's Mask with those eels ::shivers::. Personally I think my phobia of water levels started with the Dope Fish in Keen since I was so young and that fish always ate me.

i think the phobia resides from being UNDER the water, not above it.. well for me anyways. Usually you're pretty helpless when it comes to submerged combat and thats where the phobia comes in. WW doesnt count cuz you're never really swimming around under there being attacked by giant sea monsters.

Same goes for that thing in RE4's lake. You had a handy dandy harpoon at your disposal as opposed to not having any useful attacks (or any at all..) when submerged. When you were knocked out of your boat in that, it was a QTE and that doesnt count.

Really........weird.

So were you guys scared when surfing the sea in WW?

Only when I was knocked out of the boat and had a moment of panic as I struggled to get back in, and then only because I couldn't fight or flee until I got back in.

Not everything sets off the fear response.  For example, in Tomb Raider Legend, all the water was clear and obviously empty of danger, so it didn't phase me at all until I got to the bottom of the England level.  There the water was so deep and dark that anything could be in it, and then there was a long, deep groan from something huge.  That set me into full panic mode as I swam full speed for the closest bit of land I could find.

For another example, compare Super Mario 64 to Super Mario Galaxy.  In SM64, Nintendo added a touch of paranoia by making the water itself drain your life away.  You could only avoid drowning by grabbing coins, so each coin you collected actually made staying underwater more dangerous.  In SMG, there's a separate air meter, far more opportunities to refill it from bubble sources that never run out, and you can actually fight underwater, not to mention how much faster you can swim.  Finally, nothing dangerous in the water is invulnerable.  The net result?  There's a huge underwater boss fight in SMG that didn't get me any more worked up than any other boss fight, and SM64 has a completely harmless creature that's basically just a moving platform that I am afraid to get close to.

I have no idea who the other half of that fighting game is but Monster Hunter 3 looks like a day 1 purchase to me.
The visuals the game had(at that resolution) were more than I expected but at the level of effort I had hoped a 3rd party would put into it.
