Midway Promises Revolution Game in 2006
« on: March 01, 2006, 07:52:32 PM »
Whether it's at launch or in the months after, Midway wants in on the Revolution.

With the Revolution coming up toward the end of the year, many people have been wondering who else would come out into the open and proclaim that they'd be supporting Nintendo's new system.

Midway has been around the game industry for a long time now, supporting many a Nintendo console along the way.  It should come as little surprise, then, that the publisher has confirmed that they will support Revolution.  In fact, that support will come this year, meaning either at launch or in the following weeks.

GameSpot speculated that this mystery Midway title might be Stranglehold, which has been confirmed to come to the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.  However, a Midway rep told the news outlet that the Revolution game in question wasn't that one, although it could come to the Nintendo platform in the future.

Midway, as well as every other game publisher of note, will lift the curtain on their Nintendo next-gen plans at E3, which is now less than 10 weeks off.

Professional 666, your obsession with daisy is uncanny!

Oh and thumbs up for Midway for shamefully promoting whatever crap they churn out!  Maybe they will make a spin off game of Mortal Kombat.......dude that might just work!

Dear Midway,

Do not make a Revolution game. Or any other game for anything. You ruined your last good franchise already (Rush), please go away now.

guys Midway make a LOT more than Mortal Kombat this is GOOD NEWS.

Especialy with the controller and all the fuss they make this means theres a better chance of seeing a game like Area 51 on the system. Also Gauntlets and Narc is still cool. Plus you have to remeber they still have rights to a lot of old Atari arcades and are a aprt of Williams and have rights to Williams games also.

Midway's best games were for the arcade so what they should do is have some generic arcade board that's easy to port from and make games for that.  They don't have to release these games in arcades they just have to make the game with the arcade hardware and under the assumption that people will uses quarters to play and such.  Then they should port it to home consoles and replace the quarters with the credits system used in Ikaruga.  To really make the game sharp they should put the arcade machine out at E3 a see if people are willing to put in money to play it.  Arcades were a good test run in the old days because an arcade game that bombed typically never made it home.  It worked as a filter for crap.

I can't decide if I'm joking or being half-serious with this post.

lol Ian, i can picture it now.........Midway's booth would be a ghost town. LOL!  Seriously though Midway is terrible, what they really need is a altogether new franchise for the Revolution.  If it is a success they might make some moneyz!  I know in order for them to be allowed to make a new franchise would mean their last few games have to make some good money so i really doubt the would be allowed to develop a new franchise game.

I know.  It probably would.  Maybe they could use a similar idea where they have an arcade area and you wait in line to enter it.  When you get in you're given four tokens to use on the games.  So you don't have to pay but you still have to decide if you want to continue to play one game or switch to playing another.  Once you lose all your tokens you have to leave so if you want to play again you have to go to the back of the line.  That somewhat recreates the feeling of having limited money like a real arcade only you don't actually pay for it.  It's even better if they have more than four games on display so people have to prioritize and can't just try each game once per turn.

BRING BACK CRUISIN' USA, MIDWAY, YOU FILTHY LITTLE BASTARDS!!!!

*ahem*

Seriously, a new Cruisin' game that doesn't suck would be an excellent addition to the Rev's library. My friends were all like, "It's Cruisin' USA without the quarters!" when they first played it.

And if they could make Gauntlet into a proper RPG with solid multiplayer, I'd like to see that, too.

Funny....Midway dropped it's whole arcade division a few years back. Now all they do is console games. So, really doubt that would happen.

To me, the obvious choice is a sequel to Area 51.  I don't know how the current gen one sold, but it was reviewed well, and Nintendo is probably pushing the FPS genre hard to third-parties.

Was the console version a lightgun game or an actual FPS?

I would think all lightgun games would be a shoe-in for the Rev because EVERY Rev owner will own several devices which double as lightguns.

Am I the only one who liked Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance and Mortal Kombat: Deception?  o_0

I would love for Mortal Kombat: Armageddon to be competently ported to the GameCube or Revolution.  I loved how Mortal Kombat Trilogy had just about everybody; Armageddon's more of the same, but in 3D.  As in, the recent games' 3D, not sucky MK4/Gold 3D.  That was its low point, and I think too few people realise that MK's much better in recent games than that point in time when they had 4 and sucky spinoffs like Mythologies: Sub-Zero and MK: Special Forces...

Not at all; I liked Deception and DA as well, and I am really disappointed that a port of Armageddon isn't yet announced - having all the characters is enticing. Hopefully a (significantly) enhanced Rev version is announced..

I have mixed feeling aboutMidway, I agree with Ian they were better at making Arcade games, infact thats all they were Williams Arcade Division, all the home ports were contrected out to other companies, like Acclaim, Scultured, and others. i will go out and say i LOVE everything Mortal Kombat, except Special Forces, Mytholgoes was pretty decent considering but the conrols suck so that brings down the entire game. but i LOVE Deadly Allience and Deception, and Shaolin Monks also but had toget an Xbox for that game.

I think Area 51 would be the most obvious choice but I was also thinking Joust could be pretty cool in 3D and so would Gauntlet bt Gantels woudl have to be online because all the new ones are online. I also think that a new Defender game could be good also but thats would be tricky because its such an old series and doesnt get too many updates.

Mortal Kombat Revolution: Use the controller to rip their hearts out! Aim well, holding up half a lung in a victory pose just doesn't impress the audience.
