Monkey: Which one? I think they called it Mamodo battles because "Children of Satan" or "Contenders for the Devil's Throne" would tip off the bible belters.

Oooh. Well, that'd probably get Jack Thompson onto the scene, at least. And that means sales ++!

I think. In the anime (japanese version) they said these guys are the children of the devil and the last survivor will become the king of hell.

Well, from my quick internet research, you could translate Zatch Bell so that he is a "demon" ("mamono") who comes from (a place sort of analogous to) "hell" ("makai")  (most translations, BTW, translate "makai" as "world of demons" rather than "hell")....but that kind of implies a Christian connotation that wouldn't really exist in Japanese culture. Zatch certainly isn't battling to supercede Lucifer.

Well, they're a bunch of demons and they are supposed to be evil so I guess the comparisons to the devil would work. Besides, japanese culture isn't untouched by christian ideas. They love to mix and match Christian, Shinto and whatever else they can find to make up a story.

Well, comparisons work, sure, but the fact remains that Zatch didn't really come from Christian Hell, in much the same way that Hades doesn't really rule Christian Hell.
