Wavebird Reciever
« on: August 27, 2009, 09:16:38 AM »
So, I have a Wavebird reciever without a matching Wavebird.  I have no idea what happened to the controller, but I lost it about 3 years ago, and I've moved twice since then, so I've no expectation that it's going to turn up.

So I thought I would sell it on eBay, but before I do that, if anyone here is in need of such a thing, I'll give it up to you for free.  I'm not looking to make money on it really, I don't expect the eBay auction to do well (if I got $15, I'd consider it a wild success) I just feel bad throwing it away.

You should try and tear it apart and then make a new case for it that flows better with the Wii aesthetic! I've been pondering doing that for a while, but with Wavebirds so rare I don't want to risk breaking mine.

Well I've already got one request via PM, so I guess I can't now.  But that's a good thought.

Pale, just ditch the case altogether, and solder the Wavebird receiver to the inside of controller port. It's a pretty simple mod.

But then, what if you need Bongos, Hori Digital Controllers or Dance Mats?

Then you probably have a spare Gamecube to plug them into.

I'm pretty sure the controllers will still work when plugged in.

Then what? Did his shock collar suddenly start working flawlessly from 60-70 feet?  :D

Back when Nintendo discontinued the Wavebird I was still looking for a spare receiver to a Wavebird my friend found and gave to me. I got in a heated bidding war on eBay and ended up spending close to $30 for that last receiver. But I finally have 4 controllers and 4 receivers.

Congrats whoever snagged that one. Nintendo discontinuing Wavebirds and keeping the corded controllers is a really poor decision I believe.

I think I'm gonna go ahead and do the internal wavebird mod myself shortly, I'll take pics if anyone is interested.

I have 20/10 vision, so if I use HDMI cables, your head will literally explode. School and work are kind of keeping me busy, so I haven't had a chance to do the mod yet, but it's relatively simple (5 wires and some electric tape, IIRC), so it shouldn't be too long. Luckily I already have a tri-wing screwdriver for disassembly.

It's a fairly new development.

Also, BWRJim got the WaveBird receiver, and said it arrived safely to him.   My loss = his gain.  Enjoy!
