TalkBack / Re: Wii System Update 3.4 Released
« on: November 18, 2008, 09:45:47 AM »
i'm still hoping for saving and reading from sd card. Moving it back and forth might be easier now but still why not just go all the way.

don't punish me for all the pirates. I pay for all my games and i have a SD card, why can't i just read and write to that. Have like a little tab that pops up on the wii menu with SD card saved games and have channels like that too. That way I can have several SD cards and buy more games.

They can force you download wiiware/ virtual console KEYs to the system hardware that cannot be copied onto anything, and to use x game you need y key. You can have x game on SD card or on Internal Memory, but you need the keys. The keys would be tiny maybe just a single block size.

is my idea that far fetched ? I'm no computer nerd but I think it makes sense in theory.

That sounds great in theory... except for the people who have more than one Wii in their household. I'm considering getting a second Wii for my room, but if I can't bring my virtual console games from the living room to my room, that's $249 Nintendo will never have.

I already have 1200 points set aside for this grand occasion. C'mon Nintendo. Capcom did their part, now it's your turn.

After reading so much about third party support and the stigma that people buy Wii only for first party games, I just wanted to get a heads up in terms what percentage games you guys own that are first party, for the consoles you own.

I'll start:

Wii - 50% (out of 2 games)
Xbox 360 - 0% (out of 3 games)
PS3 - 0% (don't own a PS3)

GameCube - 36% (out of 11 games)
Xbox - 17% (out of 6 games)
PS2 - 9% (out of 11 games)

Perhaps I am going to be wrong, but I would think that after Wii Ware is released that VC numbers will start to plummet.

Personally, I don't care about WiiWare. With some rare exceptions (like the RE remake for GameCube and Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix for Xbox Live Arcade), I don't care about re-makes of games that I loved. What I want are the games that I loved, in as close to their original state as possible. To that end, the Virtual Console has delivered big time.

Phantasy Star II, recommended for everyone? Really? That game is horrendously slow-paced even when compared to other traditional RPGs. I would have recommended that game to fans only.

TalkBack / RE:Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Announced
« on: March 28, 2007, 07:23:57 AM »
The main thing that makes this announcement exciting for me is that it's coming out for the Wii, the perfect next-gen console for any kind of Olympic/sports-related game. Just being able to use the Wiimote to participate in all these different Olympic events (as long as the finished product has plenty of them) is going to make this a must-buy for me.

They haven't posted game-specific rules for SSBM yet, but if you go to the Player's Guide in the Evolution website, they list the rules that are going to be applied to all games, as well as the game-specific rules for games that have already been established (like Marvel vs. Capcom 2, Guilty Gear XX Slash, etc.) Hope this helps.

Actually, it isn't. As someone who has actively participated with the discussions at shoryuken.com (one of the main forums by the people who organize, promote, and contribute to EVO), people have been pitching to add Super Smash Brothers Melee to the fighting game tournament for years. The only problem besides getting enough momentum and support to add the game to the list was coming up with a standard list of tournament rules (like what stages, characters, and game settings are/aren't allowed) that's fair to all players while being consistent as possible to how previous SSBM tournaments have been organized.

This is like saying exploiting combos in Street Fighter II is lame, or exploiting snaking in F-Zero GX and Mario Kart DS is lame. You could choose to ignore the fact that these moves exist but you're probably not going to win a lot of tournaments in the process.

TalkBack / RE:REVIEWS: Wii NES RetroPort
« on: January 03, 2007, 03:13:34 AM »
Does anybody know if there's a way to flip the A and B buttons if you use the Retroport for the GameCube version of Mega Man Anniversary Collection, or is that even necessary?

Hey guys. Just got this game for Christmas and I can't figure out how to beat Gig in this frickin' game! For the people who've done it, what character(s) do you use and what strategies do you use?

For reference, I play with the following settings:

- Challenge level set to Mania
- Souls set to 1
- Timer to set to infinity
- Items set to on

Please note that my current strategy is to block Gig's attacks until he stops firing his triple shot, then to thwack him with weak and strong attacks from the back while he's shooting his giant purple ball attack or using the flamethrower, then to land a super combo when he changes to his egg form. However, this takes off very little damage and I often end up losing the battle of attrition to guard breaks. (I use Testament but am willing to learn anybody else if it means beating the game!) To the folks who help out thanks in advance

Nintendo Gaming / "Important Safety Information For Playing Wii"

In response to all the people who throw their controllers during Wii Bowling or inadvertently hit other people and furniture while playing the Wii, Nintendo has launched an official safety page:

Remember, hold the Wii Remote firmly and do not let go!

Nintendo Gaming / RE:paying for VC games
« on: November 27, 2006, 06:03:16 AM »
Two things:

- The VC feature is the thing I love most about the Wii. There are thousands of NES, SNES, Genesis, TurboGrafx-16, and N64 games I've never played and can't easily find on eBay or game stores. I would gladly pay $5-10 a piece to play these classics again, and there are even some titles I already own that I'd buy again just to support my favorite developers and play their games on the Wii.

- Personally, I don't want Nintendo or any third party to make any changes to the games I love. As a gamer who loves his nostalgia, I want to have the confidence to know that if I do purchase a game on the VC, that it is as close to if not exactly the same beloved classic that I loved when it was first released. If they do include upgrades of any kind (like extra game modes, levels, or better graphics), they should clearly label those versions of the game with the words "Enhanced" with descriptions of what they added to the game, and give gamers the option of turning these enhancements on or off.

And seriously, aren't any of you the least bit jealous of the PS3's graphical abilities? I would never trade my Wii for one, but I mean those graphics are astounding, I really wish for the Wii2 to be the best of both worlds. I like Zelda:TP's graphics, they are better than RE4, but honestly, they're just eh. Much like how when the X360 came out everyone was like this is next-gen? That's how I felt with the Wii except worse because of how much worse the graphics were. I've played Madden on both the PS3 and Wii, the obvious choice is the Wii, it is so much more fun, it's ridiculous, the graphics aren't even that much better, just smoother really. So I am well aware that gameplay is more important than graphics, but that doesn't mean graphics don't matter. They do! They should just compliment the gameplay, not be prioritized over them.

To be honest I have a hard time seeing the graphical jump between the Xbox 360 and the PS3. I'm sure some hardcore pro-Microsoft and pro-Sony developers will eventually exploit it, but I still haven't seen anything on the PS3 that I didn't feel the 360 could accomplish sometime down the road. The PC market doesn't help either-- when Vista comes out and all the Games for Windows hit the shelves, it'll make the leap in graphics the PS3 has even more underwhelming.

TalkBack / RE: Future Wii Model to Include DVD Playback
« on: November 13, 2006, 03:17:49 PM »
I hope there's some way to make a Wii DVD ready sometime in late 2007 through firmware or some sort of add-on, but if the original Wiis are not upgradable to the DVD-ready version, perhaps they can offer a trade-in service where people can give their used Wiis + $50 to get a Wii with DVD capability. I don't know how to make the economics work for that, but right now I think that'd be the best way to please the early adopters who want the DVD functionality with their Wii when the new model comes out.

Congratulations to the winners! The rap and second entry get the official Gai sensei thumbs-up.

Edit: Just heard the third entry. That one gets a big Gai sensei thumbs-up also.

Wow, I thought I was the only person like this. I got RE4 the other day and that yellow spine on the side made me sick for a while since it doesn't match any of the other games or DVDs I own. But I'm over it now; hopefully the Wii Player's Choice packaging will be less shameful and more pleasing to the eyes.

According to the current contest rules you can do the audio, the script, or both. You can only do one of each though, and you can't win more than once. Other than that, from my understanding entering an audio entry and a script entry is perfectly fine!

Thanks for the response, Mr. Castaneda. I must have deleted Evan's answer by mistake (I'm very jittery when it comes to the ol' mailbox)

Regarding the entry, I'm very happy with it. I composed the music from scratch and even changed the instruments, notes, arrangement and lyrics so by the ASCAP's standards it would definitely fall under the category of safe, original, parody-inspired material. I was just writing to make sure. I'll definitely enter a second entry using the second method, though! The notion of writing a Naruto-inspired skit that you guys have to act out is just too much.

Not really, Arbok. We just got a lot of half-hearted stuff, and we want more people to enter (with quality results), so we upped the anty a little. So far it's been worth it, as some great entries were recently submitted.

And by the way, I'm the Naruto-seasoned judge. I've read every chapter of the manga, and I'm familiar with the anime. I also own Clash of Ninja 1 and 2, so I think I'm qualified.

What about my entry? I already submitted it and I just want to know if it's legal.
