Kairon, have you even been paying any attention to the interviews that have been posted?  Sakamoto helped make Super Metroid.  In terms of linearity and story progression, he's compared the game to Fusion.  He's insisted that the game will have exploration, that he wants to maintain the Metroid "feel," and that he wants to create the ultimate Metroid experience.  And Team Ninja is only there for their 3D experience, and according to Sakamoto they understand his vision.

I'm not arguing with you, I'm just saying you have better evidence to go by than speculation. :b

IGN: [Laughing] We guess that answers it then. Okay, we have to ask about Metroid Dread. It popped up on an internal Nintendo release list awhile back and we haven't heard anything about it since.

Yoshio Sakamoto: This is quite awhile ago. A few E3s back. I can only say right now that this is Other M, it is not Metroid Dread. But as a concept the Metroid Dread idea does still exist within my mind so maybe sometime in the future I will be able to bring that to you.

IGN: Are you burned out on the prospect of doing another 2D Metroid, or does the possibility still excite you, maybe for WiiWare or DSiWare, if nothing else?

Yoshio Sakamoto: It's not as though my team or myself have grown tired of creating 2D games, but I think it's all what the concept is, what the game design is, and what best suits that whether it's on the Wii or DS. So moving forward, if an idea comes up that is best suited for DS then we'll pursue that.

Sounds pretty non-concrete to me. :/

Since no one seems to have posted it yet, here's another interview with Sakamoto by IGN.

He basically reiterates that they teamed up with Team Ninja for their experience with 3D, and that this game will definitely still have exploration.  In fact, he said that when they interviewed the team they didn't even know they were talking to Team Ninja; he was just interested in finding an experienced 3D developer who could understand his vision.  He also talked about how the story is intended to really flesh out Samus' past.

I hope they do tweak it (and hopefully smooth the framerate).  I want moar rail shootar action, and Ded Space looks amazingly dull from what's been shown of it.

Here's the interview with the developers of the game, which pretty much confirms Nintendo is playing a huge role in it's development.

http://www.1up.com/do/previewPage?pager.offset=0&cId=3174587&p=44

In other words, this game should end up great since Sakamoto and his team are the ones in charge and directing the game and Team Ninja is pretty much there to do all the coding and graphics, since Sakamoto and his team have no experience with making 3d games.

I just saw this posted on The Metroid Database.  Some stuffs:

Quote
1UP: What most people love about Metroid is that it offers a huge, open world. It's non-linear, there's so much to explore, and you can move about at your own pace. Is that something you're going to be retaining for this game, or is it going to be more of a linear, level by level progression?

YS: If you think about this one as being maybe similar to Metroid Fusion, then I think you'll have an idea of how the story will play out. It's still linear in the sense that there's a progression, but there are side areas that players can go into. It will retain that true, Metroid feel.

Quote
1UP: So is this being positioned as a spinoff game? Or is it really the next game in the series -- Metroid 5?

YS: It's part of the flow, storywise, between Super Metroid and Fusion.

Quote
1UP: I noticed that at the end of the trailer there appeared to be another Samus. What role does she play?

YS: She's not actually a second Samus, but she's a very, very important character within the game.

Waggling for combat could have felt more fun if they'd put any effort into it.  Why do I still have to move forward to perform a stab?  Why can't I just wave the remote up to do a jump attack?  I kept wanting to use the remote like it was a sword and had to keep reminding myself to think of it as a glorified B button.  Even without the motionplus sword combat could have been much more visceral than it was.

TP's Wii controls were tacked on and awful.  Bad example.
It was the same thing except the aiming the bow was better. Tacked on, sure, but I felt it worked. To each his own.
They weren't the same.  Camera control took a huge step back, item selection was awkward, and simply remapping B to waggle for combat just felt wrong, particularly when playing as a wolf.  I honestly couldn't stand it. XP

Not only does he call her Lady, but he asks "Any objections, Lady?" which iirc is the particular phrase Samus referred to in Fusion.

Link in Twilight Princess seemed pretty mature to me, not sure what else they really need to do.
IGN said more grown up, not more mature.  Implying older.  He's still pretty young in TP.

Somehow, even though I didn't like Hunters and was disappointed with the direction Corruption took, I feel like I won't be quite as upset if this turns out to be a linear action game.  I mean, in terms of straight action adaptations of Metroid, this looks to capture Samus' acrobatic agility waaay better than Hunters.  It just looks cool.

Just the same I still hope it has some good ol' platforming-exploration.  Stop being so pessimistic, it's bringin' me down! D:

The new Link will have a beard.

Just you wait and see...

I'll cry! D;

14
Please don't turn this into another argument about which art style is better.  Different people prefer different styles, the end.  GAWD. O:<

15
Link more grown up than ever before?  I hope he's still pretty! D:

Holy fuckin' ****.  I wanted a new Metroid for Wii, but I wasn't expecting one at all.  Looks cool.  I like the more intense action, and the brighter visuals (Prime's always felt a bit... muddy to me).

I see that the issue of exploration's already been discussed, so I'll just say I hope those of you who expect it to be there are right (and by exploration I mean exploration on par with the first Prime, not Corruption.  Growl!).

I want a new 2D Metroid for Wii.

Was Tenchu any good?  I don't even remember what the reviews said.  Did it control any better than the wonky tank controls in the original?

*Carries flag for Ubi games like Far Cry: Instincts, Ener-G Dance Star*

You're really dedicated to that FarCry spinoff aren't you? XP

I wonder how the ESRB would handle that.  "Rated T through M"?

I don't think it really matters.  It's not an over the top gorefest like Madworld.  And somehow I actually kinda like that about it, even though I do enjoy over the top gorefests.  It makes the game feel a little more light-hearted.  It's about the action, not the gore.

Hello, dear.

Btw, does anyone have any idea if the dev team of Red Steel 2 has any members in common with the team that did XIII?

edit: wikipedia sez they were both developed by Ubi's Paris studio.  I wonder if someone there wanted to take another crack at the comic book style after XIII didn't do so hot, or if it's just a coincidence.

I think this just became my most anticipated game on any platform.  I love the visual style, and the sword combat looks like a bajillion times better than the first game.  Finally an FPS with some personality!

My optimism for DNF was mostly killed when they started showing media of the latest reboot that revealed it to apparently be another colorless, plastic-looking piece of garbage like most FPSs seem to be these days, so I have a hard time particularly caring about 3DR's demise.  I wish they'd finished the version of DNF that they showed off at E3 in 2001.

Awkward loading hiccups aside, this is probably my favorite Wii rail shooter so far (GS and HotD2 tied for second, followed by HotD3 with UC at the very bottom).  Fetid Waters is the only level that strikes me as particularly dark, and even it's perfectly manageable.  The visual style is pretty cool with the scratched film look and everything.  I thought the cussing fit in with the game's shamelessly over the top style perfectly, and there's some hilarious banter between the protagonists.  I think the ice cream truck scene's my favorite.  Also dual wield mode is surprisingly entertaining. :>

I'm looking forward to a sequel with the hiccups smoothed over.
