Nintendo Gaming / RE:is it all hype? (UK onlooker)
« on: November 21, 2006, 08:51:38 AM »
Only time will tell if the hype holds up.  Fortunately, time I've got.  So far it looks like the only must have game is Zelda.  Hopefully, by next summer, there will be a nice selection of games to choose from.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:What's next after Wii?

As long as it called the "Wii Wii", what could possibly go wrong?

Yeah, it's like the V-chip.  God forbid the parents actually pay attention to what the kids are doing.

I don't know...on one hand, I'm not a big fan of ANYBODY monitoring my daily activities.  This is probably pretty harmless, but there should be an option to either not keep track of things or not have it upload automatically.

On the other hand, I really don't care.  It seems like of a lazy way of getting marketing data.  I would have preferred Nin. to dedicate their time to other things like adding another remote to the package  Maybe they should rename it "Wi" .

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Wii Calculator - how much will you spend?
« on: September 25, 2006, 05:05:24 AM »
0$

For over $300 just to get started, I want to see how everything shakes out with the Wi-Fi, remote, etc.  See you next year.

6
Going to wait for the 1st price drop, then how the (new) game library is shaping up.

7
It costs more than $200 and doesn't come with at least one each of the following:
Remote
Nunchuck
Classic controller

Game delays are relative: if the Wii (God, I hate that name) comes out in Sept. and "launch" titles are delayed until late November, no big deal.  If it comes out in early Dec. and games are delayed until 2007, it would be brutal for holiday sales.

And just to get this off my chest:

No HD.

Exactly, how many asses and names has he kissed/taken?

I mean he tows the party line pretty well and I think GameBoy Micro took somebody's name, but he was able to get it back after a long court battle.

Jeez...don't check the gaming forums for a week and you get this.  If I check back in an another week, will they call the RevMote the WiiStick?

I wonder if Nintendo borrowed the RDF.

And by the way Lois, flowers don't play video games, silly.

Doesn't anybody else think this is the most hilarious and ridiculous thing they've read in a while?

Nintendo should be thanking the loyalists who are going to purchase the Revo, no questions asked.  They will need your support.  This reminds me of the fervor I used to see in the Apple forums.

If you think getting a HDTV is fool-hardy, that's fine, but I wouldn't rely too much on two-year-old information.  HD sets cost as much now as a comparable ED set cost in 2004.

I'm going to wait.  If PS3 and Revo come out in the fall, I'll probably wait until after the holidays.  Give all of the systems (X360 more) some time to flesh things out.  IMO, there's a difference between 'affording' and having enough money to purchase.  I will have enough money to purchase any of the systems, but I can't afford to buy one and later regret the decision.  I'd like to stay with Nintendo, but will likely get the system that I feel gives me the best overall value, even if that means spending twice as much as the Revo will cost.  VC is an interesting concept, but, honestly, not one I see myself utilizing too much.  I hope the RevMote redefines gaming, but I'm going to need to see a handful of games that truly utilize it.  News throughout the summer will go a long way to determining who is my front-runner.

It's a shame 540p is not widely accepted by most HDTVs. It's like the poor stepchild of resolutions.  What's nice is that it scales relatively well to both 720p and 1080i and wouldn't require much more 'oomph' than 480p.  While it's true that a TV has to upscale or downscale to its native resolution, theoretically, the more signal resolution you give it, the less the chips have to mess with things.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Major new title announced for Revolution
« on: March 31, 2006, 06:45:35 PM »
So..this is exactly the kind of market the Nintendo is trying to attract with Revo?  Wow.  I may have to sit this round out after all.

Also, no offense, many hobbies are expensive, if you are serious about it.  That's why they're regarded as hobbies.  If you're rich, then they become "collections".  Unless you collect dryer lint, in which case, let me know and I'll send you some.

Uh...does the Revo have HD support?  I need to see happy trees in HD.  I'm sorry this is sad...you want to paint?  Go and get some watercolors and a canvas.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Kotaku Insider suggests Revolution delay?
« on: March 29, 2006, 01:39:32 PM »
Yeah...I don't know about all of the EA hate.  I mean a game developer in it to make money?  Shocking.  I'm not saying they don't deserve a fair amount of criticism.  I think Madden 06 was really suspect, but the truth is, when it comes to football, they're the only pro game in town.  Theoretically, they don't have to change a damn thing from year to year.  On the other end of the spectrum, I thought Fight Night 2 was pretty good and, even though there was no online, they did show some Nintendo love with Super Punch-Out.  EA gets hammered most of the time, but God help you if you say anything negative about the latest "Super Mario Bocce Ball!!!"  Actually, come to think of it, Bocce ball might one of the few "Mario" sports games I would buy.

It all depends on what one assumed the original date for release was.  If they are delayed from Sept. to early Nov., no big deal.  From Nov. to Dec. 20th, HUGE problem.  The Revo needs to be out at least 4-6 weeks before Xmas.  The earlier the better.

So...how do the Revolution's graphics look?

Nintendo Gaming / RE:GDC Iwataton Speech Thread
« on: March 22, 2006, 03:52:39 PM »
C'mere dead horse...I got my bat.

Until we actually see Revo games with Revo graphic quality on a Revolution, everything else is speculation.  (I could argue the same thing about usage of the RevMote)

Who said anything about bleeding edge technology?  The cube never had what I would consider bleeding edge technology, but as Ian alluded to, the graphics of the cube's games were as good as any, if not better.

I hope as much as anyone that the Revo's graphics compete with the other systems.  It doesn't have to be better than the others, but it should compete.

I wouldn't mind Nintendo's marketing the concept:  Graphics as good as the competition AND New way to play AND Great 1st party games AND Still cheaper than everybody else.  No, it's not easy to do, but I thought this was supposed to be the "AND" console.

P.S.  I know that's not what they meant by the AND console, so de-bunch your panties.  Now if you'll excuse me, I have some cake in the fridge.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Why is the console so small?
« on: February 26, 2006, 06:38:50 AM »
Alright...if you can't afford a HDTV, that's fine.  If you think Nintendo's decision not to support HD is right, that's fine.  Even, if you think HD is over-rated, that's fine.

But...stop using the fact that you don't or can't own one to justify ridiculous statements:  HD only looks good for TV and movies, it only looks good if I am in my neighbor's basement.  A 60" HDTV can only be viewed from the moon to get the proper detail.  HDTVs can't make my morning coffee, so why the hell should Nintendo include it?

If you think SD is the be all, end all...I'm happy for you.  Don't use Nintendo's technology decisions to insinuate that people HDTVs got hood-winked or short-changed.

Nintendo is not going to support HD.  The truth is, what any of us think only represents a very small percentage of potential buyers.  Let's restart this thread in 3 years and see how things are going.

For the record, I actually tried to post based on the title, but I can now see that it's a lost cause.  Can I lock a thread for myself?

The console is small b/c Nintendo is betting that it will be a big selling point.  If the majority of potential buyers think it is, the bet correctly.  If the majority of buyers don't give a rat's furry tush, they bet wrong.

A potential argument one could have is that, with wireless internet, the Revo is meant to be moved from place to place, for parties and such.  The problem is that I don't think you can use that in advertising because what you are telling people essentially is that if your buddy has one, you don't really need to get one.  Just call him/her/grandma up and tell them to bring it over.  I don't know, I suppose there must be a reason.  Small for the sake of small doesn't do anything for me.

P.S.  No HD support.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:IF Revolution still is a code name...
« on: February 23, 2006, 03:44:37 PM »
Well...they're trying to gain the 'non-gamer' market.

How about the Nintendo NGS.  Non-Gaming System.  Wait that didn't come out right.
Everybody's complaining that it is underpowered, why not embrace it?
The Digital Underpowered Device...DUD.   Hmmm.

Maybe a description:  Certainly Revolutionary And Playable.... Nope.  This is tougher than I thought.

I personally like Revo, but I think that's already taken.  How about a play on it being the fifth console?  Maybe Revolution is the best name.  Although I wouldn't be surprised to see Nintendo RS.

Hey man, I hope you're right.  I hope Grandma, Uncle Jesse and Cooter use the hell out of their RevMotes.

Although Grandma might get the Carpal Tunnel.
