More than likely, as it's a pretty standard feature of any decent BB/forum script. If they can't support mods for individual sections, I'd like to state that Fusetalk fails at the internets.

I'M BACK / RE:Yamauchi tells it like it is
« on: March 17, 2006, 03:02:01 PM »
I should report this to the cap'n cause there be far too many words in this section of the funhouse, but let me shut you up right here and now.

The biggest problem with third-parties (up to and including square) and Nintendo in the 32/64-bit era was the fact they went with carts which had a massively larger cost to manufacture than optical media. Not to mention it's not easy to cram all them textures and sound and whozits in a small cart compared to just plopping them on a much more spacious disc.

Misnomer #1 on all this is that Yamauchi was the one behind this. In actual fact, it was our beloved Miyamoto who had the unbelievable foresight (LOL sarcasm) to DEMAND carts because he wanted no load times on Mario 64 and any other games he made. Yamauchi wanted optical media. He knew it was the future. They went back and forth, Miyamoto either convinced him or got more sway on the board of directors or something (my memory is foggy on this point). The reason Yamauchi gets blamed for it, is that once the decision was made, he stood behind it. He's the damned captain of the team, and even if he didn't agree with it, the man has balls of steel and took it in the nuts for the team.

And as usual, Yamauchi was right.

P.S. What did he say about the DS... something about "this will either sink us to hell or rise us to heaven" (paraphrasing). Yeah, him being right seems to be status quo in the industry.

Er, damn. Well then. I missed the vote. I missed the party.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaand after having a discussion with Ty after my post last night, I'm thinking I'm going to miss my lynching.

Here's to hoping I'm wrong... or was right before... or wrong now... er, I dunno.

This is shaping up to be faaaaaaaaantastic.

I'm voting Ty (S-U-P-E-R) because my gut says he's no friend of ours this time around, and because none of you have convinved me that either Stabby or Shyguy are guilty of anything but paranoia. Edit: Not to mention he's been much more quiet than usual for a mafia game, and him and Bill are known best-buddies from the first Mafia. True all assignments are random, but it's more him being quiet that's really not settling well with me.

Of course, this errant vote will likely be over-analyzed and get me killed, but at the rate that I keep coming home from work, it's not like I'm voting that often anyways. BRING IT ON YE SCALLYWAGS! :S

BreakyBoy refuses to read anything in italics because it's god damned annoying

Vote wandering for starting this nonsense until someone convinces me otherwise.

The italics role playing thing was actually started by Pale. See for yourself.

It isn't so much the italics as it is the rambling role-playing going on, when I think it'd be so much more fun to play it straight. And for god's sakes if we're going to do ninjas and pirates and we're going to be actively roleplaying I WANT SILENCE AND PIRATE-SPEAK. EVEN FROM THE TOWNIES!

That being said, your point has been made. I have no ulterior vendetta against you, so my vote will be changed in my earlier post.

TalkBack / RE:Nintendogs the only Nintendo Game to Win at AIAS Awards
« on: February 11, 2006, 09:13:25 PM »
To be fair to the AIAS, this system of ponying up money to be nominated is standard fare. I might be completely off-base here, but from what I understand pretty much every person nominated for an Oscar has to be part of their respected guild (Screen Actors Guild etc) to even be nominated, so this isn't anything new.

I'm going to keep this very brief because the memories and frustrations and, well, etcetera are kind of bubbling up to a frothy mess over here.

First of all: It's about damned time! (Note: not directed at TYP)

Second of all: Congratulations! (Note: Directed primarily to TYP, but also to PGC in general for this nice step forward)

Yeah, that's about as far as I can go without delving into ramble that will likely devolve into expletives. :3 ^____________^ :3

File size is fine for broadbanders I'd say.

For something like this, I'd say stereo is unneccessary. Make it mono and you'll see a decent reduction in file size. Or even better:

If the option is there, turn off the music in the game, put up the SE. Mix the music you want in with the gameplay SE and set the encoding to 128kbps/mono. You'll have the same file size, better quality audio, and more interesting audio. I like the song, but ultimately, the music is kinda superfluous, and I felt like I was listening to iTunes while watching your match vid.

I remember doing this when the site transitioned from PlanetN2k to PGC.

Hell, I think my doing that is what got me hired, considering I wasn't officially staff when I was doing that.

To be honest, I kind of wanted the townies to win. I participated as much as anyone outside of Bill/Ty in figuring out who the mob members were.

Ty has my trust for a reason. In fact, it was because of this trust, that I was rather certain that Bill wasn't the detective. I kind of have issues with out-and-out lying, so I had to skirt that line of not lying, but not revealing my hand either while keeping their trust. Bill can probably confirm that I outright spelled it out for him the possibility of my being the SK on several occasions during the last few nights.

In any case, I knew full well that the detective was the one I needed to go after to survive. Stabbing in the dark does no good though (which is why I figured UncleBob for a townie. I thought the same of wandering because he insisted on RPing and playing switzerland, which made me think he was trying to make the best of being a regular character). So, while I waited, I bided my time, and just let things happen.

My only real stab at the detective was in that last kill. I suspected I would be out for the weekend (I forgot Pryo said we wouldn't play on weekends), and I sent him my next kill well in advance (friday night I believe). Where Bill did really throw me off was with Pale.

I had narrowed my suspicions of the detective down to three: MysticGohan, Pale, and InfernalMonkey. I suspected Pale of something, and through our IMing back and forth, Bill knew it. His corroboration of my suspicion of Pale did much more to make me vote for Ferny than anything he said to me after that. Deciding to ignore my gut, I sent Pryo that early PM with Ferny as my next kill. It was only later that night that Bill presented Ferny as someone he implicitly trusted. I did think it was too easy, but I decided to stick with my kill anyways, and it was only on Monday that I was getting more certain it was wrong. I IMed Bill about the vote (which I missed as I expected I would), and I asked him about Ferny again. The way he responded to me, made it pretty obvious.

At that point, I decided that there was no point in changing the vote. There were too many things against me. One, the townies had the numbers in their favor. Two, if I killed the detective, that left Bill. If I killed Bill, that left the detective. Bill and I had already discussed contingency plans in the event of his death so that the townies could continue, much how Ty pretty much passed the torch to Bill. I knew full well that even if my assumptions about the detective's investigations were wrong, the numbers game would catch me in the end, since there was no way I could kill townies fast enough. So, I just let the kill stay as I made it.

I got the PM from Florence/Bill late at night when I was nice and tired, and I PMed him back with a "BOUT TIME JESUS" message, and let Pryo know what I wanted to do in case something unexpected happened (I was going to kill Bill for laughs and then kill myself). Cue endgame and this thread.

In conclusion, I'm never playing this again.

Edit: Oh and I do have to say congrats to Ty and Bill. They had this game on lockdown from the start.

Good thought Aurion, but actually, I was doing my job.

I was killing townies.

My biggest mistake was killing off wandering so early, whom I took a guess at being a townie. He ended up being mafia. My best shot was keeping the mafia alive as long as possible without losing my place amongst Ty/Bill's group.

All that being said, I didn't like playing the SK very much. I have far too much of a guilty conscience to make a legitimate go at it.
