One other question. By opening cinematic, you mean the cinematic that accompanies the title screen, right?

Not some weird flashback opening cinema like when you start a new game...

SC2 is no street fighter.

Green guy in the turban. Check, compadre.

To its credit I will also mention that Capcom v. SNK 2 was a great GC button-masher. Or should I say C-stick-masher.

Being well-known for Xenosaga, it is a bit odd that Monolith Software releases their next game on the GC instead of the PS2. With Sony it had a bit of a fanbase.

Sadly, Baten Kaitos may be undermined by the rest of the holiday lineup and silently worshipped by people like me.

More? How many are there now? The only one I know of is Capcom v. SNK 2 and, thanks to the GC controller, it's pretty terrible to control despite being an otherwise awesome game.

PS: Actually it's not so bad if you buy Playcbue adaptors and use PS2 controllers, but if you're gonna do that might as well buy a PS2 really.

How serious are the spoilers in the opening movie? A lot of games show later characters and distant locations which isn't that bad, but are we talking about plot spoilers here? That's just not a smart idea.

I agree that Samus should be more agile. Believe me, I loved MP, but I always got so **** frustrated that Samus' only avoidance move was the side dash. It needed a backwards lunge to quickly retreat because backing up was soooo slow. It made every escape from encounter look pitiful. Down and B simultaneous when locked on = backwards lunge. That's all. That's it.

Sometimes walking looks cooler than running.

9
I just remembered, MP should get mad props for the visor reflecting Samus' eyes. I think they even blink sometimes. I'd pick that over seeing my feet.

All nice ideas. Realistically, Retro may have already come up with some of these concepts but it didn't fit into the time frame or the budget. I think a game can always be made better, but at some point development needs to stop. But then sometimes it's the details that make a great game achieve legendary status. Hopefully MP2 will get there without the above.

Still nice ideas.

"You guys"? If by that you mean the people who visit this forum, read this thread, and actually bother to write letters to video game companies then we are severely short-handed on any campaign effort.

Despite a free camera so you can openly see the environment, I think the game's scare-factor increases because the zombies can actually navigate obstacles to get to you.

I understand that some people get frustrated by the limited save business, but it really does work well to create a tense atmosphere. I think not knowing how much longer you can hold out before saving again is really cool.

Anyway, you can always play on Easy where they give you about twice the number of ink ribbons you'd ever need.

Limited saving too scary? Resident Evil never was for the feint of heart.

Really, RE games usually have you scared of something at any given time... whether it's a zombie or the fact that you haven't saved in the past half-hour and can't until you find a ribbon.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:The Gamecube is a failure.
« on: November 10, 2004, 07:24:11 PM »
As far as I know it's too strong to say the Gamecube is an absolute failure. It is more of a limited success. I believe Nintendo is still turning a profit from their console/game sales and they still own the handheld industry as well as numerous strong 1st party developers.

True, they've been making poor decisions lately, but I don't think it's anything impossible to turn around. After all, they are the only console company with a 100% concentration in video games so I don't think they'll be giving up on that market anytime soon.

I think it's because Nintendo wants to go the extra mile to avoid getting sued. Sony or Microsoft probably think they've done enough to avoid any serious lawsuits.

TalkBack / RE:Resident Evil 4 Not GC Exclusive

The deal with GC-ISM control for Capcom v. SNK was that L and R controlled all punches and kicks. The harder you pressed the shoulder button the stronger the attack. The C-stick was used for all special moves. It was actually fun to fight using GC-ISM in a ridiculous sort of way.

The AC-ISM control used all the buttons for all punches and kick strengths so the C-stick was unused. It was as close as you could get to an arcade setup.

Either way I think the game suffered.

I know developers make their fair share of good and bad games, but Monolith Software also developed Xenosaga which was a top-notch RPG. I would take that as a good sign for Baten Kaitos.

Yeah, it's better than nothing and I'm sure people will have fun with it. There's just much better stuff out there.

If Nintendo knew that the deal for the Big 5 could be compromised at any time I don't know why they were so big about pushing it. Unless Nintendo really is stupid, they must've gotten some compensation from Capcom for losing a big title lke RE4.

Like I said, unless Nintendo really is stupid which, in this case, I'm beginning to think they are. But then I don't know how these deals/contracts/promises/etc. work...

Geez, I haven't played that game in ages.

Isn't Mantorok already on his way out when the game ends? His opponents are gone but he was still wounded from when Pious drove the columns into his flesh.

Pretty damn awesome? MadCatz just wants to cash in the fact that Konami won't touch the Gamecube. If the game really only has 29 songs and they're all that poor, MadCatz is just preying off GC owners who won't or can't buy a PS2 or Xbox where they will find a lot more enjoyment as far as dancing games go. It's nothing awesome.

Also, $50 is an pretty poor price for the bundle and $30 for an extra pad is absolute bull. You can buy a PS2 DDR mix and a decent pad for maybe $40 to $60 at the most and you get around double the number of songs. I think MadCatz is just taking advantage of the situation.

Sorry, I've been editing, but I didn't read the whole article at first.

Bloodworth: If you were to review the game modes single-player and multi-player seperately, do you think you would give the multi-player aspect a higher rating?

I mean, of course I haven't touched the game yet but the multiplayer aspect sounds almost revolutionary to me which makes 8.0 seem pretty low.

I agree. Sonic's leap into 3D has disappointed Sega fans over and over again (although I think your particular review for Heroes was a bit harsh).

Sonic Team just doesn't even seem to know what they're doing anymore. It's one of those times when I have to wonder if they even play the game before they release it. The games are decent but the series is definately not on the upswing.
