As someone who is at the tail end of Johnny's illustrious(?) career as host of this show in my relisten, I am shocked to hear that Johnny's audio setup might have caused problems for this show. This is completely unprecedented of course and there is absolutely no record showing that this has ever happened in any previous episode of this show nor any implication that it might have happened frequently enough for it to be mentioned on this show, especially on episodes he wasn't present for like 103. I ask that you remove this blatant slander immediately.

Smash is what really sold me on K-rool. He's a incredibly absurd character design and I always thought he just looked fucking stupid. What Smash made me realize though is that that's kind of the point. There's a sort of just physical comedy to just having him on screen in a way that differentiates him from someone like Bowser and Sakurai's team was able to capture that in a way that Rare couldn't within the limitations of the SNES and N64. I think part of the reason Nintendo kept trying to replace K Rool is because he kind of doesn't mesh well with the Rare DK design and that's something that would have become more apparent as he appeared on more powerful hardware. Even in Smash Ultimate, that DK design looks like it came from a different game from K Rool.

The irony is that by getting rid of DK's rare design and replacing it with a more cartoonish DK, they created a version of DK that could match K Rool's manic energy. Bananza also shifted DK as a series into a more cartoonish direction and I suspect that K-Rool was brought in partially because he actually fits in Nintendo's current vision for Donkey Kong but also because Nintendo has made multiple attempts to introduce new villains to the series to replace him between Jungle Beat and the Returns games and they all fell flat so with a soft reboot that moves the series into a direction that K-Rool actually fits in, it makes sense to just reestablish him as the series's main villain and be done with it.

Hopefully he won't be the only villain though. It would be nice to let DK build up more of a rogues gallery of recurring villains.

I hit credits on the story mode of Monster Hunter Wilds. I had played through the game on Xbox but I am kind of trying to move away from giving Microsoft money due to a combination of current events and the realization that I am not getting too much out of my Gamepass sub and so it makes sense to move away from the Xbox ecosystem as a whole because that's kind of all they have left. While my laptop struggled with the multiplayer betas, it seems to handle the full game pretty well, albeit at a much lower graphical fidelity than the Series X.

I can also use gyro aiming now that I'm not tethered to a console manufacturer who is stuck in 2005 in terms of controller features. That has been a pretty big deal, both for using the slinger and for the fact that I have picked up a light bowgun as my secondary weapon.

It feels like movies and TV seem to conspire to be the worst case scenario for digital purchases. With music, iTunes still seems to be pretty stable and with video games, the platform holders have been pretty good about keeping stuff you purchase available to re-download and giving advance warning when there's going to be some kind of mass delisting but for whatever reason, movies and TV shows seem to conspire to push people away from making digital purchases with **** like this or those discover documentaries that remove themselves from people's digital libraries when they get delisted. And now we have 18 different streaming services vying for attention. It's all just a mess and we end up suffering for it.

I do think the whole Game prices thing will affect game sales for the system due to various economic issues but at the same time, indie games are becoming an increasingly viable solution for more budget conscious customers and the Switch 2 is in a really good position to be able to handle those kinds of games, both because of its portability and increased power over the Switch, and because of the wide array of control options the system has over the competition.

I think the mouse deserves special mention because of how it opens the door for several neat indie games that have never really been feasible to bring to a console before because they are built around being played with a mouse. There's stuff like Pony Island and The Hex which are suddenly much more viable to bring to a console because there is now a console that has some sort of mouse input packed in.

If Nintendo can continue to play to their strength with indie games while ensuring that the eshop doesn't become a cesspool of ai hentai shopping simulator games again, then I believe that they will be able to provide options for more budget conscious customers.

I dislike this kind of messaging but it feels particularly apt here. The Switch 2 is straight up what the Switch should have been when it came out. The joycon 2s are substantial enough in your hands to actually feel like worthy successors to the Wii remote, the magnets are way better than that sliding rail nonsense on Switch 1, and having a second USB-C port on top of the system is something that honestly should have been there from the start.
