I'm glad to finally see some numbers.  Working at my local EB, the cube version was the first one to sell out, followed by the xbox and lastly the ps2.  There were also a nicer range of ages with the cube version... which is nice to see because it's getting younger audiences into the genre.  And of course we all know that's because of Link

My audio card is an Intel 8100 on-board audio.  I'm baffled myself at how much better it sounds in linux, but it does.  I'll have to check out those winamp plugins, thanks for the tip.

PowerDVD sucked on our desktop downstairs, it had terrible sound quality, I never bothered to install it on my laptop.  I have no farking clue what dvd codec came on this thing, but WMP9 was by default the main DVD player.  It also has WinDVD installed and Interactual Player 2.0 - both of those have terrible picture quality, it's blurry and kinda pixeled when I go full screen.

The only reason I used WMP9 for DVD playback is that my laptop has these 4 DVD/CD/MP3 controll buttons on it (it's a toshiba laptop) and it only works for WMP.  Winamp 2.90 kicks ass and I've gone back to using it since I got used to xmms in linux I couldnt go back to WMP9 (plus my mp3 list has gotten so big wmp is having a fit now).  As for sound quality in Linux, my sound card sounds 100x better in linux then it doesn in windows.  It's clearer, and can go louder with less distortion.  Took a while to get it working right though, I started out using ALSA as the sound system and when I went to OSS i had a ton less problems.

If you're talking about windows media series 9, MS's new version of Windows Media Player, it's actually really good.  I only used it to begin with because my laptop has these cool buttons for mp3 and cd playing that only work with WMP9.   I was surprised to find out how good it's playlist management was and how good of a DVD player it was.  It easily had the best picture quality for a PC DVD player I had ever seen until I found the wonders of linux and Ogle

Now that I've gotten used to linux, i've gone back to Winamp for my windows mp3 listening (as the linux clone of winamp, xmms, kicks ass) but WMP9 is still my #1 windows dvd player.  But yes, I highly recommend freeware and opensource over just about any MS product, I've been using Open Office for a good 3-4 months and it beats the crap out of Microsoft Office with just as much functionality.  I also moved to an open source FTP program called filezilla for windows, and a bunch of other open source software to replace my other costly windows applications.

The only expensive software left on this thing is my copy of Photoshop and Illustrator because I love them so much (Yes, I actually paid for these two great programs)

hehe WindyMan and I managed to convice little ole matt here with that link.  It's actually rather easy to screw with IGN links, change the channel_id tag and it changes the formatting for the media page, change the page_title tag and it changes the title.  You could make an IGN page that looks like Halo is coming ot the GameCube.  Windy actually posted the little joke on the forums earlier and we were laughing about it in the chatroom, Matt walks in right as i say: "what would you rather I say, OMFGWTFASLLOLBBQBLT ZELDA ON XBOX NOOOOO! ?" and he jumped in right away saying it wasnt possible, then me and windy managed to convince him (after showing him the little ign link) that it was "true" and that windy would post it on pgc if the news posting software wasnt screwed up (of course that was all BS) and matt spent the next 3 hours thinking it was true until, get this: he actually AIM'ed an NOA employee.    We had the whole chat in on the joke for a while, it was great.

(and dont let matt convince you he knew it was a joke the whole time, cuz he didnt)

Once again, you fail to see my point. While they are a "nice" addition, I really couldnt give a damn about them.  These forums are already fast and work great, avatars would just slow them up again.  And while I am lazy, that is not why I dont care about avatars.  I dont care abotu avatars because I DONT CARE. They are a useless perk and I couldnt give a damn if they were here or not. 99% of people's avatars looked like pure <insert word here, stupid censors...> anyway.

The stupidity here comes from people not being able to read.  I said "avatars would be nice but are not needed" - I'll take bannerless, popupless forums that are hosted on a site's own over some pointless avatars any day.

These are easily some of the fastest and best looking forums I've ever used.  Let's keep it that way.

Thanks for the heads up Rick.  Just one last question, is it possible to make "subscribe to this thread" checked by default?

I'd just like to say that it's about damn time you guys got your own forums.  EB is easily the worst forums system on the entire internet and frankly, i'm surprised you guys kept them for so long.

Also, all the complaints about colors, avatars, signatures, ect. are just annoying the crap out of me.  Who cares if you get some stupid picture underneith your name or some piddly title saying you've posted more then someone else? Things like that are what makes forums suck.  I much prefer the way you guys are doing things now then in the past.  You're old forums were slow, cluttered, and filled with stupidity. While the stupidity still remains thanks to certain forumers, at least it's no longer slow and cluttered.  While avatars at the very least would be nice (hell, they can be limited to 100x100 pixels and limited to being hosted off the site to keep bandwidth usage down) they dont really matter.

My only suggestion is to give hte look a little bit more depth.  Mainly in the forums logo and the buttons that say "customize" "profile"  and the formatting buttons on the message form.

When I was talking to Windy in the chat, I was surprised you guys paid for a forums system when such great systems as phpBB are available, but when I found out how well it integrates with the site I was pretty impressed.  Once I got a chance to get a better look at the layout and such I really like the setup.  Just one quick question. Is this the fuse talk's default layout with a custom color scheme, or did you do the whole thing yourselves? Either way I really like it.

Keep up the good work,
The Frozen One

PS: if you can add a spell checker please do, maybe I wont despise the forums quite so much if they looked at least half way intelligent, but then again no one uses the devil's...errr I mean gamefaq's spell checker so it probably wouldnt matter...
