TalkBack / Wario World Drops Into Nintendo Classics Game Library
« on: Yesterday at 03:10:43 PM »

...wait, WHAT?

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/73598/wario-world-drops-into-nintendo-classics-game-library

We might be getting a couple of N64 platformers next week but we're getting an unannounced GameCube game tonight.

A surprise trailer has dropped for Wario World, the Treasure-developed 2003 GameCube platformer, and it's available tonight. Wario World was not in the original list of games announced for the Switch 2-exclusive library.

Nintendo World Report (in its Planet GameCube iteration) reviewed Wario World, with Michael Cole giving the game a 6 / 10.

One of which has been available multiple times.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/73597/pair-of-ubisoft-n64-games-joining-classics-library-next-week

The N64 Nintendo Classics will get one final update in 2025.

The Expansion Pack-required library will add the N64 version of Rayman 2 and Tonic Trouble on December 17. Tonic Trouble (1999) is a 3D platformer about a janitor who drops a formula that mutates Earth and has to find the items for an antidote. Although it was released on PC in 2000, this is the first time the N64 version has been re-released.

The often re-released Rayman 2 (1999) is also a 3D platformer that was later ported to both the DS and 3DS, and originally launched just a couple of months after Tonic Trouble. Both games offered Expansion Pak support.

See that mountain? You can play two different native versions of Skyrim on it.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/73593/skyrim-adds-another-platform-as-anniversary-edition-now-available-on-switch-2

It's seemingly not a modern console if it can't play Skyrim natively, and now the Switch 2 is getting in on the action.

Bethesda has announced that the Skyrim Anniversary Collection - which includes a host of user-created tools from an official creator's club as well as the base game's expansion - is now available for purchase on Switch 2. The massive RPG first released in 2011 and was one of the first games announced for Switch at its 2016 reveal, launching in November 2017.

Previous owners of the Anniversary Collection DLC (released 28 September 2022 for Switch) will be able to upgrade to the Switch 2 version for no cost: otherwise the upgrade will cost the same $19.99 as the DLC costs now and includes those who own physical copies of Skyrim Switch.

TalkBack / Pokemon Go Crosses Rubicon, Announces Remote Trade Functionality
« on: December 08, 2025, 12:32:30 PM »

...so you're saying it'll be possible to get Stonjourner without a $1500 round trip ticket from YHZ to LHR?

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/73592/pokemon-go-crosses-rubicon-announces-remote-trade-functionality

One of the last local-only options in Pokemon Go will soon be available remotely, but you have to work at it.

A new update rolling out worldwide today will unlock the ability to make remote trades in Pokemon Go. The trades will be tied to a friendship prestige level called "Forever Friends" (previous levels being Good, Great, Ultra, Best) and will unlock one remote trade per time achieving the level. It will take 90 "points" to reach the state (1 per daily interaction, 7 for completing a weekly challenge), and a trade must be completed before the next 90 points will unlock another remote: additionally Pokemon caught in the prior 30 days cannot be traded in addition to existing trade restrictions.

In order to facilitate the trade, players will put a special tag on Pokemon they are willing to trade: the partner selects three of these tagged Pokemon, and the original trainer will confirm the one to send. Each step has a 48 hour timer, similar to how trades work in Pokemon TCG Pocket.

Trading was added in July 2018 to Pokemon Go and requires the trainers to be 100m from each other to complete. In 2020, a proposed change caused by the start of the COVID-19 pandemic extended the trade distance to 50km which was later added for a couple of events, but the distance has largely remained 100m since December 2021.

TalkBack / Nintendo Downloads - December 11, 2025
« on: December 08, 2025, 03:00:00 AM »

This week is kind of designed to tick me off.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/73589/nintendo-downloads-december-11-2025

In a week that features Winter Game Fest (dba "The Game Awards") and its cavalcade of F2P gacha hero shooter ads with interspersed awards more of a work than Montreal to balance out the Z-A Mega Dimension DLC, at least there's some intriguing items to deal with. The week kicks off with Skate Story, before going into Farming Simulator and Warhammer 40k: Rogue Trader - and for those of you with pattern recognition issues who AREN'T whining about Metroid Prime 4 on the internet, Ultimate Sheep Raccoon is from the developer of and is a sequel to Ultimate Chicken Horse. There's also a new rocket sim from the No More Robots folks in Little Rocket Lab.

On the OG Switch... well, we have another Saga game getting its second remake, and in a sign of something Square Enix isn't even publishing it. There's also a new Terminator run-and-gun, a remake of a Japan-only PS1 game (Milano's Odd Job Collection) getting localized, and waaaaaaay down the price list a Switch version of PC surprise hit A Game About Digging A Hole. (Exactly what it says on the tin.) Disclaimer corner: LOK Digital is produced by Syrenne McNulty, official Friend of Nintendo World Report, and published by Draknek who employ our Melanie Zawodniak as a podcast editor.

THINGS WE MISSED LAST WEEK: In a light week for surprise releases (Arceus be praised), we got Switch 2 drops for Sonic Racing: CrossWorld (with a weird upgrade structure) and... Red Dead Redemption.

IS THE EGGCONSOLE GAME PLAYABLE OUTSIDE JAPAN: A scrolling shooter in Super Laydock Mission Striker means we should be good to go.

Finally, nothing but blue shells for an entire Knockout Tour.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/73524/new-mario-kart-world-patch-adds-item-switch-music-options-and-loads-of-issue-fixes

A new patch for Mario Kart World could potentially make races even more chaotic than normal.

The 1.4 update (out now) has enabled an item switch for multiplayer races, and added some new options to multiplayer. Several tracks were also redesigned, most notably any races that run through the Koopa Beach track now running for at least two laps on the beach.

A multitude of other issues were also fixed: full patch notes can be found on Nintendo's support site.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/73523/pokemon-legends-z-a-drops-project-m-announces-new-mega-evolution-for-mega-dimension-dlc

We have some new details for the last big Nintendo release of 2025 this morning, as well as a new downloadable event for Pokemon Legends: Z-A.

The Mega Dimension DLC will include a second Mega Evolution option for Lucario called Mega Lucario Z. A new trailer released this morning shows the slightly lighter form in multiplayer action, though any type changes are still unknown. "Z Mega Evolutions" will have a shorter cooldown for attacks in battle, but will also burn the Mega gauge faster.

The end of the video also confirms a new Mystery Gift similar to the one that unlocked the mythical Diancie last month. Later today, the Mewtwonite X and Mewtwonite Y will be made available via Mystery Gift, which will allow for the legendary and elusive Mewtwo to be captured. The sidequest, called "Project M", will be the first time Mewtwo has been available on the Switch in more than four years, with its previous appearance being in the postgame of Pokemon Brilliant Diamond / Shining Pearl.

Myles MacKenize / You helped out Samus Aran / And angered some "men" / 10/10

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/73468/nintendo-downloads-december-4-2025

A week on the bigger side for Switch 2 (and Switch by proxy considering all but one of the big ones is multiplatform), with the power four of Simogo Legacy Collection, Marvel Cosmic Invasion, Assassin's Creed: Origins and Octopath Traveler 0, the last of those most important for those hoping for an offline version of Fire Emblem Heroes once its end of service gets announced in March since Traveler 0 is a test case for "offline version of mobile gacha". There's also the Nintendo Direct-appearing Popucom, and Viewfinder which Willem reviewed last week, and a Nightdive remake of something just called Blood...

Don't look at me like that, I was getting to the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon of the broader Nintendo oeuvre - the series with two ever-shrinking constituencies of fan in indie game makers and video game media, the series that those who like it won't shut up about but the broader audience does not give a damn about. Yes, Metroid Prime 4 is finally coming out. A game in development so long it was introduced at an E3, and the studio that allegedly worked on it originally before it was rebooted nearly seven years ago has turned their reputation around with Nintendo to the point that Nintendo is outright buying them. Was it worth it? Probably not, given that it's not good when the biggest-budget game in Nintendo history has the same discourse:sales ratio as the Steam Deck.

THINGS WE MISSED LAST WEEK: Syrenne's surprise drop will actually be in next week's list (if I don't get sacked for that truth bomb up there) as LOK Digital is getting a Switch version, but it does have a demo you should check out by her request. Apart from that, 1991 brawler Karate Blazers was the Archives release. And there was a lot of "porn"... aw, dang it.

IS THE EGGCONSOLE GAME PLAYABLE IN ENGLISH: It would appear so, but I would NOT bet on the same being true of the story.

The last time Nintendo bought a studio from Bandai Namco, it worked out REALLY well for them.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/73466/nintendo-to-acquire-singapore-based-studio-from-bandai-namco-in-april

Nintendo has opened a branch in Singapore to expand their presence in Southeastern Asia, and now they're picking up a local studio.

A news release was posted by Nintendo this morning announcing a planned acquisition of Bandai Namco Studios Singapore. 80% of the firm - a controlling interest - will be acquired on April 1, with the remainder to be acquired "once the subsidiary's operations have stabilized". The company will be known as "Nintendo Studios Singapore" following the acquisition.

BNSS was involved in the development of Splatoon 3 and was at one time rumored to be working on Metroid Prime 4 before its 2019 public reboot and movement to Retro Studios.

Hopefully the inevitable Myles MacKenzie one will quote the Xenoblade 2 Ardanian Soldiers (pre-nerf) when tapped.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/73465/metroid-prime-4-amiibo-functionality-detailed-on-japanese-website

The new Amiibo for Metroid Prime 4 have more to them than just being big and looking pretty.

A Japanese language website has updated the functionality for the Prime 4 Samus and Samus + Vi-ola Amiibo launched on November 6, as well as the Sylux one that will launch day and date with Prime 4. The effects are:

  • Samus + Vi-ola will allow you to change the motorcycle's color, check its odometer, and increase its "Boost Energy" recovery rate.
  • Samus standalone will give new background music when riding Vi-ola, activate a 99 damage shield (once per day), and restore Samus's life
  • Tapping Sylux will allow for early access to "full in game cutscenes" upon rolling credits - cutscenes that normally appear in a fragmented form in the story - that normally require 100% completion of the game, as well as Sylux randomly taunting the player.
  • A Smash Amiibo (Samus, Zero Suit, Dark, or Ridley) plays random music.

It appears other Amiibo, such as "Mr Squishy" the Metroid from 2017's Metroid II: Samus Returns will not have an ingame effect.

TalkBack / Pokemon Go Announces First Major 2026 Event In Kalos-Themed Tour

Related: The March 5 Downloads article might be delayed a bit.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/73464/pokemon-go-announces-first-major-2026-event-in-kalos-themed-tour

Pokemon Go's first all-weekend event of 2026 has been revealed.

The Go Tour: Kalos (region of Pokemon Legends: Z-A and more importantly X and Y versions) will run worldwide on February 28 and March 1, with in-person events the prior weekend in Los Angeles, CA, USA and Tainan, Taiwan. Although most of the global event will be free, a $10 US ticket will be available that will offer exclusive research, a boost to shiny rates, and a first chance outside of limited Japan / South Korean events to catch the mythical Diancie in its "shiny" form. (It will likely be available as a Pokedex upload reward for Pokemon Legends: Z-A in Pokemon Home around this time, though this is not confirmed.)

As with previous major events, the Tour is timed to be the capstone of an ingame season called "Precious Paths", which will introduce several Pokemon from Scarlet and Violet into the game starting with the Nacli evolution line on December 2.

TalkBack / Nintendo Classics Libraries Add Two New NES, Game Boy Games
« on: November 25, 2025, 03:18:20 PM »

For once, the answer to the question "Is this Battletoads?" is not "No, it's Doom III."

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/73463/nintendo-classics-libraries-add-two-new-nes-game-boy-games

Nintendo has dropped updates to the Game Boy and NES libraries for Nintendo Switch Online base subscribers tonight, with a dash of first party and two of the NES's more infamous action games.

NES Library

  • Ninja Gaiden II: The Dark Sword of Chaos (1990) is the second in the NES trilogy of hack-and-slash platformers starring the famous Ryu Hayabusa. A sequel set a year after the events of the first game, it was previously released on all of the Virtual Console platforms (Wii, 3DS, Wii U).
  • Battletoads (1991) is the original game in the short-lived Rare action series and one of the last major NES releases in North America before the launch of the Super Nintendo. Known for its difficulty - including the 2 player mode being unfinishable due to the second player constantly dying upon spawn in one of the last levels - this release is its first on a Nintendo platform, though it was included in the 2015 Xbox One collection Rare Replay.

Game Boy Library

  • Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters (1991) is the sole direct sequel to the often-released NES classic and was the last game in the franchise until the 2012 revival Kid Icarus Uprising. It was previously re-released on the 3DS Virtual Console as a part of Uprising's promotion.
  • Bionic Commando (1992) is an adaptation of the NES classic, which echews the then-modern setting of the original for a more futuristic one and was the first to refer to the player character as "Rad" Spencer instead of the translation error of "Ladd". This is the first ever re-release for the game.

TalkBack / Nintendo Downloads - November 27, 2025
« on: November 24, 2025, 03:00:00 AM »

If this week is anything like the last few in terms of unannounced releases, the news desk will be having WORDS with Rune.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/73439/nintendo-downloads-november-27-2025

Ordinarily, this week of the US Thanksgiving holiday commentary on appropriateness of the holiday deleted is a quiet one. Trapped between the week before Black Friday with its massive sales and the big release week of Octopath 0, Assassin's Creed: Shadows and some other thing, it should have been true this year - especially when Sturgeon's Law is in full effect. So... why are there 52 games in North America to start the week? Hell if I know.

For things that might be worth looking into, we have a pair of Picross games celebrating Capcom vs SNK before one beomes a corporate cousin of EA next year, and... man, if Jupiter didn't come through last week we would be so cooked. A new game subject to the Syrenne Disclaimer is coming unannounced on Tuesday so we have that to look forward to, and my only hope is that it and the Archives are the ONLY surprise drops.

(Narrator: "They were not the only surprise drops.")

THINGS WE MISSED LAST WEEK: The Switch 2 release count QUADRUPLED (2 -> 8) with a multiplatform release of Tomb Raider (2013), the Directly promised One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4, Brotato, Squirrel With A Gun, and Punyan plus early Namco title Bomb Bee as the multiplatform Archives release.

IS THE EGGCONSOLE GAME PLAYABLE IN ENGLISH: It's Puyo Puyo, so if you're getting locked out of the story by a language barrier that can only be an improvement.

To which you might respond "who?"

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/73364/mythical-pokemon-zeraora-to-receive-mega-evolution-in-legends-z-a-mega-dimension-expansion

Ome of the lesser-used Mythical Pokemon is getting a glow-up in December.

A new trailer for the Pokemon Legends: Z-A Mega Dimension DLC has revealed a Mega Evolution will be available for the mythical Zeraora. Originally released in 2017 as an Ultra Sun and Moon exclusive, Zeraora will remain a pure Electric-type Pokemon when Mega Evolved.

The introduction of Zeraora continues a trend began with Pokemon Legends: Arceus where mythicals were made available during the game (Arceus as part of the plot, Darkrai and Shaymin as save bonuses).

It is canonical that when I strike down the Switch eShop in furious anger, the only things that survive are Kirby games.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/73357/nintendo-downloads-november-20-2025

Well, if an hour and 53 minutes of presentations / trailers and two weekends of test drive weren't enough to confirm that Kirby Air Riders is the big game this week, I don't know what it'll take. (Even if I'm waiting for vouchers to come back to buy it because of it being one hundred and five bucks after tax solely because I bought my 3DS while visiting my brother, or it'd be $114.) As the second-to-last Nintendo release of the year behind the Z-A Mega Dimension DLC, it's got a lot to live up to - and has to justify the use of a SECOND BUTTON. Naga help us all.

For OG Switch owners this week, you're looking at another RPG in this Fall of Too Many Level Ups with Demonschool, the oft-delayed-for-reasons-beyond-its-control school life RPG from the team behind... Gunhouse. There's also a double shot of interesting indie to kick off the week with Indika and Morsels, a new R-Type Delta, and run-and-gun Neon Inferno.

THINGS WE MISSED LAST WEEK: A couple of new Switch 2 editions including Hello Kitty Island Adventure and narrative adventure Rue Valley, plus Galactic Warriors from Konami in both Archives and Archives 2.

IS THE EGGCONSOLE GAME PLAYABLE IN ENGLISH: It's an action RPG we've seen before in Xanadu and the screenshots appear to explain it well enough.

TalkBack / Pokemon Pokopia Reveals GameShare Support In New Trailer
« on: November 13, 2025, 04:16:34 AM »

And some possible Delta Species?

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/73273/pokemon-pokopia-reveals-gameshare-support-in-new-trailer

A ten minute trailer for Pokemon Pokopia has dropped some new details for the March 5 release.

The trailer confirmed that Pokopia will offer GameShare support (including to original Switch systems) and will have four player online co-op. The player-character Ditto will also be able to change their look ingame, as well as transform into other Pokemon such as Lapras for water traversal or Dragonite for flight.

At the end, a brief shot of several alternate-color Pokemon - an albino Pikachu and a grass-colored Snorlax - also appeared. The framing device for the trailer is a Tangrowth ("Prof. Tangrowth") whose top half is predominantly white.

The Pikmin 4 update promised last month is now live.

The patch notes are available here: in addition to the promised Pikmin Bloom support and new difficulty options, the option to "roll over" completed save data to a new playthough has been added.

Also added was an option to skip the intro after the first playthrough.

TalkBack / Pokemon Pokopia Launching March 5, Coming On Game Key Card
« on: November 11, 2025, 04:37:00 AM »

We're sure the discourse around this will be measured and well researched.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/73236/pokemon-pokopia-launching-march-5-coming-on-game-key-card

The wacky building adventures of Ditto are coming just after Pokemon Day, in a perhaps unexpected format.

Nintendo of America has confirmed in social media posts this morning that Pokemon Pokopia, the crafting sim announced in the September Nintendo Direct, would release on March 5, 2026. A new trailer will also run on Thursday.

It was also confirmed that the game would come on a Game Key Card, as shown in a video posted on the English-language Nintendo YouTube channel:

Game-key cards serve as physical licenses for digital games and have received criticism from fans for still requiring a download and hard drive space unlike traditional physical games. The release of Pokopia on a game-key card would be the first time a Nintendo published title has made use of this format. It also somewhat contradicts comments previously made by Nintendo that they had "no plans to use game-key cards for Nintendo-developed titles." That being said, it is worth noting that the Pokémon Company is listed as the publisher in Japan, possibly making this a case similar to how licensed Warriors games (Legend of Zelda and Fire Emblem) are published by Koei Tecmo.

UPDATE 10:15am ET: Digital preloads for the game are now available confirming a US$69.99/C$99.99 MSRP.

TalkBack / Pokémon Legends: Z-A (Switch 2) Review
« on: November 10, 2025, 10:59:58 AM »

Fun fact: The Kalosian army is 0-5-4 against the Church of Helix.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/review/72268/pokemon-legends-z-a-switch-2-review

I wanted to wait until I finished Pokemon Legends: Z-A before getting my thoughts down on the game, but I clearly erred in deciding that I wanted to have all of the game’s Mega-capable Pokemon on level with the plot requirements. As a result, what is normally cited as a 30-hour game with 60 for completionists ended up with my clock being over 56 hours before rolling credits. I don’t regard it as wasted time, because I do eventually want to 100% the game, but the Pokemon Legends games are definitely designed to focus on one aspect of the Pokemon experience, and I really hope a third Legends game either returns to the catching focus or learns from some of Z-A’s missteps.

Z-A is intended to be a sequel to 2013’s Pokemon X and Y, set entirely in the formerly game-crashing Lumiose City - the centerpiece of the first 3DS Pokemon game. The self-designed player character arrives in Lumiose and is press-ganged into “Team MZ”, a group of early teens who headquarter in a small hotel and are trying to move up the ranks of the city’s new battle tradition, the “Z-A Royale”. Competitors in the Z-A Royale start at the Z rank and once they earn their way to the A rank through winning enough battles can have a wish granted by local mega-corp Quasartico Inc (if it’s physically possible). There were some interesting takes on the X and Y story and even some returning characters from the base game, though one of them required an immense leap of logic that I had trouble accepting even after it was attributed to the legendary Pokemon Zygarde. The story attracted a lot of attention for skipping your character from rank V to F for respect as part of the story, but that serves to keep the game’s length down and all of that repetition was instead loaded into the postgame, where you have to win 15 “promotion match” equivalents consecutively in order for the final part of the plot to resolve.

My favorite drink at this cafe is Fresh Water, because it took six of them to evolve the strawberry bunny.

The prior Pokemon Legends game retained a version of the traditional Pokemon battle system, with the addition of the ability to catch Pokemon without engaging them in a formal battle. Z-A retains capture without battle, but the turn-based with modifiable turn order system has been replaced with a full on real-time combat system where moves now have a cooldown instead of an accuracy stat. It’s similar to the Xenoblade combat system though without the automatic attacks while arts recharge, so it gives added value to stat changing moves or moves with other effects since you can only attack with your best move every few seconds. It’s necessary to hold down ZL in order to perform attacks since they have to lock onto the opposing Pokemon (both singular and later on plural), and the lock-on window is very easy for opponents to break. Legends: Z-A is the game that’s convinced me to invest in a Pro Controller and / or some sort of Joy-Con replacement, since the ZL button on the default Joycons is not well equipped to handle hands of my size holding it down. Items in the urban environment would frequently block my attacks as well: you need a clean line of sight in order to hit attacks even with the lock-on, and that can get frustrating to maintain.

A majority of the battles in the game take place in the Z-A Royale, which has one of the first instances in the Pokemon franchise of a dual scoring system. Beating trainers earn points based on the rank of the trainer faced with a certain number required to earn a “promotion” or “prize” battle, and also awards “prize medals” which are converted to money at the end of the night and are also scattered throughout the battle zone. The Royale also encourages stealth, since if your Pokemon can initiate a battle you get a free first move if it doesn’t outright knock the opposing Pokemon out, but if you get caught the opponent has the advantage and gets a free move. There are also “bonus cards” which award points and medals for completing feats including using super-effective attacks or attacks of a particular type, but the biggest rewards seem to be reserved for “get the first blow” type bonuses. The other major battle type in the game is the Rogue Mega Pokemon battle, which involves dodging attacks from a large Pokemon and using your own (preferably Mega Evolved) Pokemon attacks to subdue it. The Rogue Megas will occasionally use screen filling AOE attacks that it’s possible to dodge, and recalling your Pokemon prevents them from taking damage as well, but there are occasionally cheap ones: one such fight I had to restart three times in order to win. Thankfully, there is an option to retain damage dealt and there’s no penalty, but all of these battles take place in circular zones without anything in the environment so you can’t cheese these the way you could with some of the Noble Pokemon fights in Legends: Arceus.

If Legends: Arceus was a Pokemon take on Monster Hunter as is often quoted, it seems like Legends: Z-A was intended to be a Pokemon take on pre-Like a Dragon Yakuza. But Lumiose City is no Kamurochō, even with an entire city being available instead of just a fictional section of Tokyo. A lot of the architecture in Lumiose is identical to each other just with different colors on the roof, even with additional variety being granted through the game as more of the Wild Zones unlock. I mean, they had to put Ice types SOMEWHERE. But apart from the zones and some bits that take place in sewers - never an appealing location - it’s definitely an issue, and the announcement that the DLC just takes place in “Hyperspace Lumiose” means we’re probably not getting some more environmental variety until next October at the earliest. The game is heavily tied to the moving clock, which is not a real time one but similar to the one used in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet that runs through the cycle in about an hour of real time - but there are options at all of the game’s Pokemon Centers to skip to night or day depending on whether or not you want to fight trainers en masse or not. That said, even with skipping I could see the postgame tacking on 7 - 10 hours of game time just for finishing the story.

"The Morning Sun has vanquished the horrible night AND recovered half my health."

I had a lot more time than most will with Z-A, and in all that time I don’t recall a single instance of a game crash or any of the other issues that plagued pre-Switch 2 Scarlet and Violet. The biggest technical issue I’ve seen with the game is more of a system issue: the Switch 2 might have quoted 2 - 6 hours of battery life, but I would be lucky to get two and a half hours when playing the game portably after work. The performance in battle was smooth, even during late game triple battles when everything in sight is either Mega Evolved or in the process of evolution. We posted an extensive Switch v Switch 2 comparison already, but my time with the Switch version was consistent even if it wasn’t as sharp graphically as the Switch 2 upgraded version ended up being.

One advantage of taking so long to play the base game was that I got to try the multiplayer modes before and after the 1.0.2 patch, and I definitely preferred the post-patch structure. The core of the multiplayer is a four-player battle mode with private or ranked options in which you have three minutes to knock out as many of the opposing Pokemon as possible. Points are awarded based not only on ranking the number of knockouts, but other factors such as achieving a certain number of knockouts, picking up items in the environment, or Mega Evolution. I found the matches to fly by, and especially in the second round it only took about eight minutes to get out with the second starter Mega Stone. The original awards were slight, but post-patch they’re directly useful for investing into your team whether for the PVP proper or just for single player. After being deemphasized in Arceus thanks to the ability to use the evolution items, trading is once again necessary to complete the Pokedex whether locally or online with a Switch Online sub, which has the unfortunate side effect of making at least one popular Mega Evolution-capable Pokemon unavailable until just before the credits and another until after the credits. And if you’re trading with randoms, such as using a link code of “Pokedex number of what you’re trying to evolve twice” to set it up, they might take the Pokemon and run. Some jerk ran off with a Scyther I had put some investment into and I wanted to at least give them a double Trudeau salute.

Although there’s not a lot of environmental variety, there’s a good amount of character variety. By not having a lot of X and Y characters return, it lets them fly the freak flag on designs and personalities - even if the inclusion of “female Electric specialist who’s also a streamer” for the second consecutive game was a little over the top.

Z-A is the first Pokemon game I can recall exceeding an E content rating, partially for violence and more likely for this thot experiment.

In a departure from series tradition, one endgame cutscene gave me the option to skip the scene… sadly, the same cannot be done for the 15-second cutscene every time the game shifts from day to night or vice versa. They could have at least given an option to bypass it, and could have a pop up saying “new Battle Zones are available” the same way you get notified of new Wild Zones or Mega Stones being available. I can only assume they’re hiding load times at this point. The soundtrack has a good mix of borrowed elements from X and Y’s soundtrack and original tunes, and I’m especially glad to hear the Legendary Pokemon theme of X and Y returning.

This second generation of Pokemon games on the Switch - Scarlet, Violet, and Legends: Z-A - has repeatedly gone back and forth between “we are so cooked” and “we are so back”. Pokemon Legends: Z-A has basically distilled that down to one game, because it feels like everything that annoyed me about the game was countered almost immediately by the game doing something I enjoyed or impressed me. Of the two Legends, I still prefer Arceus though, and I do hope a third Legends game is more focused on catching than combat.

TalkBack / Nintendo Downloads - November 13, 2025
« on: November 10, 2025, 03:00:00 AM »

"Hey Vegeta, what does the scouter say about this week's RPG count?"

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/73175/nintendo-downloads-november-13-2025

The Switch 2 is already staring down its biggest week since Day One with eight games already scheduled, and somehow five of them are releasing simultaneously on Switch and a sixth came out there a little more than a year ago. (The big game of the week, Yakuza Kiwami 2, is joined as an exclusive by Goodnight Universe.) Apart from that, we have Inazuma Eleven: Victory Road, Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero, and DX versions of the Atelier Ryza trilogy. And in Japan, a new multiplat release is the follow up to the best selling Japan-exclusive Switch game in a new Momotaro Dentetsu which at least on Switch is doing the Fire Emblem Fates thing.

Apart from those multiplat releases, the original Switch is also getting Mistonia's Hope -The Lost Delight- from Aksys / Otomate, and... Hitman Absolution? Why?

THINGS WE MISSED LAST WEEK: Switch 2 versions of Overcooked 2 (which was known) and a surprise drop of Dave the Diver, plus an Archives 2 and regular version of Namco's 1996 game Tokyo Wars.

IS THE EGGCONSOLE GAME PLAYABLE IN ENGLISH: There literally is not a screenshot showing text apart from the manual scan for Crystal Chaser: Overlord's Orb of the Sky, but a quick "&udm=14" Google shows that it's a Japanese adventure game... so nope.

TalkBack / Pokemon Legends Z-A Mega Dimension DLC Opens December 10
« on: November 06, 2025, 04:10:00 AM »

Also that is a FAST Mega.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/73148/pokemon-legends-z-a-mega-dimension-dlc-opens-december-10

The Pokemon Legends Z-A DLC will be available next month.

A new trailer for the DLC confirmed the launch will be December 10, and also confirmed the setting will put versions of the game's characters in a location known as "Hyperspace Lumiose". New Mega Evolutions for Chimecho and Baxcalibur were shown: the latter will have its Mega Stone distributed through multiplayer battles in a fourth season. It will also be possible for Pokemon to exceed level 100 in the story, the first non-glitch occurence in franchise history.

A new Mystery Gift for the Mythical Pokemon Diancie is also available: the gift awards its Mega Stone and a new sidequest that leads to obtaining the Pokemon for the first time in nearly a decade. Credits must be rolled in order to obtain the Pokemon.

Just in time for making 2/3 of the Kalos starter Mega Stones even easier to grind.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/73147/pokemon-legends-z-a-receives-update-for-bug-fixes-and-online-adjustments

Poke-France just got a little bit more stable with a new software update that resolves a couple of outstanding bugs and removes a complaint about the online battle mode.

The version 1.0.2 update to Pokemon Legends: Z-A (on both Switch 2 and Switch) includes a change to the scoring system for the 4 player "Battle Club" mode such that the players in 3rd and 4th place after the match are not starting from negative points. (Bonuses are available for performance which would usually offset the drop.) The second season of the battle mode already confirmed that the requirements for unlocking the Greninjite and Delphoxite Mega Stones would be lowered from the original requirement of rank K to a much easier rank S for the Delphoxite: the Greninjite would also be available at rank Y (ie: one battle).

A couple of known issues were also fixed in the update, relating to potential softlocking of capturing Pokemon under certain circumstances. Full details are available for the issues here.

Additionally, a new trailer for the launching-by-end-of-February Mega Dimension DLC will be released tomorrow at 9 a.m. ET.

The West, but not down south from home base for some reason?

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/73146/previously-japan-exclusive-my-nintendo-app-comes-to-west-with-nintendo-store-branding

Nintendo made a point of emphasis in their recent shareholder presentation about using apps to connect with fans, and another one has expanded its reach overnight.

A new app called "Nintendo Store" has dropped on the Apple App Store (iOS) and Google Play store (Android) after previously launching in Japan under the name "My Nintendo". The app serves as an interface for the eShop as well as tracking game play history dating back to the 3DS.

For reasons unknown, the application is not listed in Australia as of press time.

TalkBack / Nintendo Shifting Development Focus To Switch 2
« on: November 04, 2025, 05:53:37 PM »

Forget the third pillar, there's not even a second one here.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/73145/nintendo-shifting-development-focus-to-switch-2

Nintendo has perhaps begun the transition to full on Switch 2 a bit sooner than most expected.

In the shareholder meeting following the release of the second quarter financial results, Nintendo confirmed that due to the record-setting sales of the Switch 2 since its June 5 launch - 10.36m copies being the most for any game console in history through just under four months - that "we will shift our primary development focus to Nintendo Switch 2 and expand our business around this new platform".

Although software will still be released on the original Switch for the forseeable future - there are already a couple of confirmed games for 2026 and some still rumored - these will likely be the exception as opposed to the rule.

Also in the shareholder's meeting - full presentation notes found here (PDF link), sell-through of Switch 2 has already exceeded 10m units, and 84% of Switch 2 owners owned some form of the original.
