I have never gotten into the recent online gaiming scene but I do remember playing online with Doom and Warchaft2 using the Dial-up route.  Where you and a buddy or 2 would set up a machine (one of the groups) to listen for the others to dial into you and then you play on your own terms with no one else suddenly jumping in.  I really hope Nintendo allows for IP entering with their Lan plans becuase you could do this by just knowing someones IP.  It is just more fun when it is with people you know.

Nintendo Gaming / Nintendo's LAN stratagy - Why?
« on: April 09, 2003, 04:15:59 AM »
COLLEGES.  Colloges have giant LAN networks usually and every dorm room is hooked up and more then likely with a tv of its own.  When you have 10,000 people in one location all able to load a game and see a buddy across the hall playing it makes a big difference.  I am one of those who hate online gaming unless I know who I am playing against.  That makes Lan gaming so much more enjoyable to me.  Plus you don't have to worry so much about connection speeds when everyone on the lan has a 10/100 mb connection to the lan.  This also allows people to setup their own networks so they can play games on 2 tv in their home in the off ocasion they have more then 4 people over to play games.   I really prefer the idea of Lan gamming to Online gaiming myself.

Factor 5 worked out the DIVX codec for the cube didn't they.  I wonder how they may intertwine that technology into their games to make them even more beatulful then before.  I mean DVD quality cut sceens or even gameplay graphics if they can work it out would be amazing.

Nintendo Gaming / I am a 31 year old new GC owner
« on: February 25, 2003, 03:13:35 AM »
well I might as well join the list.  I am a 25 year olld gamer married with 2 kids.  The only systems I have ever owned are Nintendo Consoles.  I am having the greatest time ever with my Cube.   The Nes asn SNES days were good but limited as being a kid with no money and only being able to afford rentals.  The N64 days were better in college with  buddies and Mario Kart.  Now I am at my own home with a nice tv and time to play (after kids are in bed).  I love games that challange my ability to control the situation like Monkey ball.  games like GTA got really boring about half an hour into it, just didn't have fun walking around beating old folk.  Oh well Nintendo for life.  Oh yeah also have a 24 year old friedn and 25 year old brother in law that I talked into buying a cube

Currently own:
Metroid
Timesplitters 2
Super Monkey Ball 2
Mario Party 4 (wife got it)
Tiger Woods 2003 (So addictive, 95% done)
NBA Live 2003
Resident Evil 0

I have a 32" non HDTV with componet.  I got the component cables and it only made a slight difference from the S-video cables.  I also notice that on somegames the clarity can make them look a little shotty.  Like Tiger Woods 2003 with just composite cables the faces don't seem as blotchy and the textures seem to blend better then when using Component.  Just an observation on my end.

Nintendo Gaming / Gettin' Cube...finally!

I'll get some sports games on Xbox, and some on Cube. Oh, and about PSO, there's actually no Xbox Live charge. It's just $50 for the kit so far. Until Microsoft announces the charging info.

Heard from a little birdie that it is very likely 10 dollars a month or 100 a year for  Xbox live.
