Er....

it is?

I know Kirby is coming out, but what else?

Or is that what makes it a huge DS month?

Seriously, my PSP makes me happy in my pants.  I have 4 games for it at launch that are fantastic, with more coming soon.  Nintendo has failed it's fans with the DS.  If it had Mario Kart, Metroid, and Super Mario out already, I'd be happy, but jesus christ.. 6 months, and we have one decent game (Wario Ware), and one decent game we've already played (Mario 64).

Sorry, I love my Gamecube (also a lack of games), and I love Nintendo's games, but they've screwed up.  I hope their new system is truly revolutionary, because I want to see them succeed.  But from what I've been told (insiders), their CPU is definitely the weakest of the three (by a long shot).  I hope the gameplay makes up for it.

Another great RTS was Dark Reign.  Not the crappy sequel, but the original.  That had some fantastic AI routines, where you could actually set your units to go harass enemies.  They'd run in, take a couple pot shots, and retreat, just to piss them off..

Or for those of us who liked to... make the opponent reinforce that area, and then circle around with our main force.. BWAHAHAHAH.

Why wouldn't it be legal?  You're using hardware emulation to play physical carts.. there's nothing illegal about it.  Compaq won that case 22 years ago...

Aye, that was in August.  They are shutting the doors on the Toys R Us outlets, and keeping Babys R Us around, because that has -become- their "bread and butter."

Again, that's why Amazon's switched their game sales to Gamestop, and, quite frankly, why most Toys R Us stores look like ghost towns (well that, and because no one likes the remodel they did last year.. it's like a bloody maze).

Yays for being a schmuck!  That is teh me 4 teh win!

No one is pressured into pre-ordering games, or buying strategy guides... people are asked, and that is all.  You're going to get that in every store you go into... K B has their batteries, Best Buy/Circuit City will sell you a service plan on a key chain.  Heck, even the local grocery store has their new "Item of the Week" which they make sure to tell everyone at checkout about.

At any rate, the reason that Gamestop gets pissed is that they are the #3 retailer of Nintendo brand products, but end up #5 or 6 on the supply list.  A lot of companies get extra stock and never sell it, meaning Nintendo -is- sending too much to said stores.  Guess I'm the only one who sees a problem with that...

Actually, Gamestop is responsible for 90% of Amazon's online orders, now (soon to be 100%).  That deal was announced a month ago.  And Toys R Us -is- effectively out of business.  Their stores will (should) be closing in January, which is why Amazon was in the market for a new game supplier.

The reason Gamestop has stopped taking pre-orders is not because they've filled their allocation... it's because they're nervous.

I love Nintendo as much as anyone else here, but they've consistently screwed specialty game retailers with low quantities of new systems, and shipped a boatload to stores like Toys R Us (now out of business), K B Toys (chapter 11), and some of the box stores.  With every system since the SNES, Gamestop (then Neostar Inc) and EB would order a certain number of units for launch, and be promised it by N, only to get 1/2 or less on release.

I can't blame them for being nervous.. I would be too.  Nintendo is focusing in the wrong markets, really.

We've been telling Nintendo about these for months, and it's about freaking time they've done something about it!

We've got kiosks selling these in Vermont and New Hampshire, as well, so they are everywhere.  I like that there is no company information on the box anywhere, and if you ask about returns, they pretty much laugh at you.

I don't recall that one, but it's possible, I suppose.  I never saw one...

There was a mario kart with a bonus disc for early pre-orders, and the zelda collector's disc last year with gamecubes.  The Mario Kart bundle is confirmed for US release, too... I believe in a couple of weeks.

My only complatint so far is that it doesn't have any rankings in multiplayer.  If there's 4 of us playing (tonight with 2 of my employees and my fiancee), we could never tell who did the best without doing math in our heads.  Boo to that.  Once in a while it would give a statue to someone, but usually not.

A small complaint, though... I think it's possibly the greatest party game ever made.

Yea, pretty much Yamauchi is too much of a traditional Japanese hardliner to sell to an American company.

Of course, I realize that Gates could buy them himself, alone... but I'm not sure why he'd ever say Microsoft is interested.  He's not exactly CEO of MS anymore...

    ......

    I WANT THE FREAKING BOX!

It looks sexy, and would be sweet on my wall.

Little note for g4ever... just because you "know a guy" there, doesn't mean it's true.  Some of those guys like to say things like that to make geeks like us go "oooh ahhh."  I'm a store manager for a Gamestop store, and we're not expecting the systems to arrive for another week or two.  The idea that stores receive titles in advance and can't put them on the shelf is a myth... it's very rare for a game to even have a street date (Doom 3 was an exception.. last one before that was Midtown Madness 3).  In fact, even before that, I can only remember a handful of titles/events to have street dates... the Gamecube and Xbox systems and 1st party games (3rd party launch titles were a go upon release), Castlevania: SotN, erm... that's it really.

Edit:  Dreamcast launch, as well... systems are street dated, but only on initial release... the Zelda bundle was NOT dated.

You laugh, but it will happen.  I doubt you have any idea how many kids got "nightmares" from playing Pokemon, so sayeth their parents.  Obviously deeper, underlying issues exist, but the parents CAN'T BE WRONG.

Seriouisly, I don't mind losing MKI that much... Midway just sucks some for getting rid of it.  I'm lamenting the loss of STUN Runner, more.  WTF are they thinking?  Do they have a Midway Arcade Treasures III in the works, but only had crap games left?  They have to put one or two good titles on it?

I have a feeling this one may become Gamecube exclusive, considering Sony's track record on 2d games (i.e. the Sony Retardation effect).  Could also be wishful thinking on my part...

    Long live the 2d shooter!

Not sure how this ended up on Planet Gamecube, since it involves an XBox game...

Also not sure about all this THQ hatred.  Geez... Full Spectrum Warrior is an amazing game, and deserves it's sales.  I'm sure it'll drop far down the charts this month, thanks to ESPN NFL, NCAA, and Tales, but the game is truly great, and deserves the #1 spot... 2 will have to do.

Nintendo titles almost -always- ship to arrive on Tuesday... they're the "weird" ones of the video game world, though really, they're kinda normal as far as products overall.  Music and movies almost always release on tuesdays... video games are just weirdos on wednesdays.

    Blah blah blah...

The only thing that worries me here, is that WB will erm...

Well, let's face it.  Atari is a crap company as it is.  But WB wanted Matrix out in a certain time frame.  Would WB be able to demand the game be released, without it being finished, and then raise royalty rates because of a rushed product?  Doesn't seem real far fetched, actually.

I like the idea... there just has to be give and take.

And yes, Atari basically coming out and saying "our game sucked, but we still should get money" was a pretty good time.  We all know that Atari can't get games right (Neverwinter Nights' bugginess, Matrix's lack of polish, Temple of Elemental Evil's overall craptasticness).
