General Gaming / Snake Eater???
« on: May 11, 2003, 05:44:50 AM »
Too Cool!!  This game looks to really give MGS fans something new with the jungle environment.  That video gave me the goosebumps.  That's what I love about gaming (and especially E3 time)!  The video showed us a lot, but very little at the same time.  We know its Russia, and ....uh....that's it.  Check some messages boards, this one dude lined that "hungry for snake" pic with a map of russia and it fit PERFECTLY.

I'm not even positive thats Snake.  Yeah, it looks like him, but did you see the very beginning where he ate the snake then lifted his head and made a hissing noise?  I didn't think that was very Solid Snake like at all.  Then you ask questions like....who's the back up?  Is it Otacon?  What about Mei Ling?  Where's Raiden?  Heck, what about Meryl?  Is there a new gear involved?  Who are the bad guys (besides Ocelot)?  No doubt that this game will be great, but it makes the mind start going again with all these questions.

Plus, you have to figure that this game will be out fairly soon.  Maybe not this fall, but it won't be a wait as long as MGS2.  The graphics looked somewhat similar to the first PS2 installment, but they'll probably be better.  So, the graphics and physics engine is already done.  Life is good......MGS:TS and now MGS3:SN!!

Nintendo Gaming / ***SPOILER*** Confused on ending...
« on: May 04, 2003, 05:30:47 PM »
Maybe I'm thinking too much about it.....first of all, i really liked the dramatic and kinda graphic ending.  I mean, Link stuck that sword right in Ganon's head.  That's some graphic stuff, and not "kiddie" at all.  Now, as for the story part of it.  My first thought was this "well, if OoT/MM are the first games in the series and WW is a direct follow up, then what about all of the other Zelda games that should therefore take place after these games.......they all took place in Hyrule (except the GB games, that is)."

Seriously, this game just took a big dump on any kind of chronology other than the direct link between OoT and WW.  I kind of gave up on trying to figure out the timeline, i'm just gonna enjoy the next game...and the next....and the next.

TalkBack / A Box Full of Zelda
« on: May 02, 2003, 06:01:36 PM »
True it is put together by famitsu, but it is endorsed by Nintendo.  Nintendo's sound team even decided which songs went on the CD.  The figures are cool, though.  Definitely not something you'll ever see in the states.  Again, it's worth the $30 + $12 for shipping.  The one complaint is, like somebody said, the book doesn't come out of the box.  That kind of stinks.

I actually bought this about 2 weeks ago.  It's pretty cool!  You can grab it for about $40 on ebay or Otaku.com, and for a true zelda fan, its worth it.  I'll go over each piece of the package:

The CD - 12 tracks from different zelda games.  It's nice to have clean copies of these songs (no junk off of Kazaa), but not a lot of variety.  the Wind Waker tracks, 4 of them, are the centerpiece of the disc.

The figures - extremely cool, but even smaller than the japanese final fantasy coke figures.  extremely detailed.  a very unique collectible.

The book - awesome!  to see some design sketches that didn't make it is so cool.  i just wish i could read japanese.  again, extremely cool pics!

The poster - Another awesome item.  I haven't seen this scene anywhere else.  I'm actually thinking of having it matted and framed.  It's that cool.  It's a pic of link and zelda fighting ganon, and if you've played and beaten the game, you'll truly appreciate this scene.

Overall, definitely worth the price of admission if you are a big Zelda fan.  I suggest Otaku.com if you're interested.

Nintendo Gaming / The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker General Help

**Getting everything in the game question**

I was wondering if you get anything extra (extra cinema, etc.) for getting everything in the game. I did get all of the hearts and heart pieces, all of the bottles, and stuff like that. But, i was wondering if it would be worth it to go and get ALL of the treasure charts and special charts, i have the ones i need, but is it worth it to go and get, for instance, the big octo chart?
**minor spoilers**
I'll do it if I get something extra (beyond satisfaction, of course), but i'm not sure if its worth the time. I mean, i'm up to 5000 rupees and i'm at the point where i'm collecting the triforce pieces. Take kingdom hearts, for example. If you got all of the dalmations, locked every world, and completed the hades cup, you got a sweet cinema at the end. Does anybody have any insight on this? Thanks, I appreciate it!!

Nintendo Gaming / Zelda Bonus Disc
« on: April 02, 2003, 12:13:39 PM »
electronics boutique has them used for $15 and they are giving $10 in trade for the bonus disc.  That's pretty cool for folks like yourself who didn't get the bonus disc.

Nintendo Gaming / Anybody here got confirmation about Zelda shipping
« on: March 24, 2003, 04:27:10 PM »
EB got it in today, in Michigan at least.  I picked mine up at 7:30.  Good stuff.  The line was out the door.

Nintendo Gaming / WARNING! Do not open the latest Nintendo newsletter!

See....I already knew that about the game.  But, I was still really surprised that Nintendo would put that there.  What's up with that?

Nintendo Gaming / Release Date?
« on: March 23, 2003, 03:26:09 PM »
Historically, the ship date is the advertised date.  So, in this case it would ship on the 24th and be available at game-specific stores on the 25th and Best Buy types of stores on the 26th.  But, there are certain times, like when a big system is released or a big game like Zelda, when they get the games up to a week ahead of the scheduled release.  It wouldn't surprise me if most of the EB's and Gamestops have had the games sitting in their back rooms since last week Monday.  Heck, I remember when the PS1 came out, I worked at EB, and we all took our PS1's home as soon as we got them in the store....a full two weeks prior to release.  Good times, man.  Working for a videogame store is awesome.

In short, they just might have the game in store tomorrow.  We'll see.

Nintendo Gaming / Link in Soul Calibur 2 commercial
« on: March 23, 2003, 03:21:57 PM »
That's the thing, Link should be out of place but I think Namco did a great job of incorporating him into the Soul Calibur mythos.  Granted, I haven't played the game yet, but it seems like they did not lose the integrity of Link as a character or the universive of Soul Calibur.  Likewise, I think Spawn is a perfect character for Soul Calibur.  He's one bad ass dude.  Necrid.....eh, I could take him or leave him.  But, Heihachi, the guy doesn't even have a weapon.  Isn't this supposed to be a weapon based fighter?  If I only had a PS2, I'd be bummed out.

Nintendo Gaming / Link in Soul Calibur 2 commercial

I believe SC2 is coming out in the fall (so like September/October) in the U.S.  But, I'm not sure about Europe or Australia.  If I lived there, I'd have a modded 'Cube, thats for sure.  I almost modded my cube just to play the japanese version of SC2.

Nintendo Gaming / Link in Soul Calibur 2 commercial
« on: March 22, 2003, 10:44:11 PM »
Has anyone else seen this japanese commercial?  Man....Link is just plain awesome.  Anybody salivating to play something even remotely like that old demo of Link and Ganon are in for something special.  First of all, the music is just kick ass Zelda music.  Second, Link's sound effects are pure Zelda, as well.  He sounds just like he did in OoT/Majora, the grunts and sword noises are spot on.  Link's character render is pretty dang good, too.  It must have been difficult to put more of a whimsical type of character into the gritty world of Soul Calibur, but they pulled it off.  He looks bad ass (think a tunic and pointy cap clad Dante), but still undeniably "Link."  It's really something to see in motion.

His moves seem to be taken from Smash Bros., but with a few new ones thrown in....and those are the ones that made me giddy with delight.  There is this one where he flips in the air and comes down on the other guy, it was awesome.

One of the coolest things that I hadn't seen before this commercial is from what is presumably Link's opening intro.  He pulls the Master Sword from its pedestal in the forest and raises it to the sky.  That felt like it should come out of a Zelda game, not some Namco fighter.  Truly cool stuff.

Anyway, it really seems like Namco did the absolute best job they could have done with this license.  I think I got the video from PGC, so check it out.  I had to download windows media player 9 to view it, but it was worth it.

General Gaming / Jak II
« on: March 20, 2003, 02:52:25 PM »
I just read the preview of Jak II, the sequel to Jak and Daxter.  This game sounds pretty damn good!  I haven't even played Jak and Daxter, but I'm gonna run out and buy it now (plus it's only $20).  I know that the first one was good, not mind-numbingly good, but good.  But, I want to be ready for the sequel.  Anybody else psyked for this game?

Nintendo Gaming / Zelda: The Wind Waker OST
« on: February 12, 2003, 07:05:01 PM »
I'm gonna get the TWW OST.  The music is in this game is awesome.   Classic Zelda tunes updated.  I'll probably get it off of ebay or something.  It's not worth it to wait because NOA ususally doesn't do the greatest job when they bring over game soundtracks.  Granted they do something, but not quite to the level that the people who would actually buy game music would like.

Also, I have all 44 tracks from Metroid Prime.  That dude was right, check kazaa.  It took me a couple of weeks to dl them all, but I got 'em.  I don't see Nintendo releasing a Metroid Prime OST, so you have to take matters into your own hands.
