I heard my friend talk about this game and his feelings are quite similar to yours. Maybe I won't waste my time trying it out either  ;D

Damn, I entered this thread and read the old messages from 2010 not realizing they were old and thought that they prices had bottomed out on adapters based off Mop it up's prices.

I've heard the used/retro games market has bottomed out a bit as folks that caught the fever during the pandemic (or trying to make a quick buck) have started cashing out so maybe these could drop a bit in the future?

Glad you get enjoyment out of it.

My understanding of the criticism is that it isn't due to the lack of "real gameplay" but because they used random generation and possibly AI to make the undersea world instead of hand crafting it like in previous games. Just seems to suck the soul out of the experience compared to the previous ones.

Just want to say your sass in this article brought a smile to my face.

I basically think of it as an NES Remix 3.

Since they didn't go with that name, there's a sliver of hope we'll see other editions... but I'm with you - I doubt it.

I find it most funny that only one of the original three titles are even in this edition.

What were you expecting from something with "NES Edition" in the title?  Virtual Boy games?

When this was originally leaked on social media last week, I was hoping this would turn out to be more than the same handful of NES games Nintendo's been using for stuff like this for quite a while now. Was it really too much for them to make arrangements to include 3rd party games? Hell, I had hoped the leaks were wrong that it was a collection of just NES game segments.

Foolish, perhaps, but it sometimes feels like the NES is the only console Nintendo remembers they made whenever it comes time to do nostalgia pandering. I suspect that "NES Edition" will end up being the "only" edition, as usual.

Announcement trailer dropped:

150 or so challenges, multi-player, online leaderboards and other stuff mentioned in the trailer.

Meh. Just more 8 bit nostalgia pandering, which after 30 years of it I'm just done. Waiting for Nintendo to remember they had OTHER systems between the release of the NES and the Wii.

“Rumors” stated that Prime was in “cinematics phase” not too long ago, but we should always take that with a grain of salt. If Prime 4 ends up on Switch 2, it won’t be getting a sale from me… until the console proves it has weight. I am not tossing around the rumored fee of entry until I see tangible proof of some third parties in the device, as Nintendo’s lineup isn’t going to be immediately appealing out of the gate. I find it unrealistic to expect something from Monolith Soft in launch year, we definitely won’t get another Zelda anytime soon, and 3D Mario needs to be more like 3DWorld/Bowser’s Fury and less like Odyssey to get me interested.
