Obviously Nintendo can't match MS or Sony dollar-for-dollar in advertising.  But they do have 12 billion dollars - they should use it...

Michael "TYP" says: Maybe there is something to this third pillar after all, eh?

To be honest, I believe that depends on whether people continue to buy the GBA.  If they don't, then Nintendo may as well be having 2 pillars as it does now...

Nintendo Gaming / RE:New North American (NPD) Sales Thread

Good god August looked horrible.  The best-selling Gamecube game sold worse than Halo for god's sake.  =/

I do hope the sales numbers start picking up soon, because that is just sad. =/

M$ couldn't even afford to buy Nintendo >_<.  Well technically, but Nintendo would be sold for far more than their net worth (11 billion USD), as they as a very profitable company.

Second Place, please.  Video Games do not only exist in North America.

According to most recent sales figures released by Microsoft and Nintendo, the consoles are at 15.5 and 15.25 million respectively.  Gamecube is extremely close to the X-Box, and it is possible that the lead has switched, but as of the most recent information they are in 3rd place worldwide.

Regardless of how feasible his ideas were, you have to admit that it did sound far more interesting than the way Nintendo is making them now.

I was under the impression that their current assets were valued at about 11 billion USD.  CAn you confirm that number, please?

And I'd rather have that difficulty.  What happened to Nintendo being able to make games that were at least somewhat challenging?  That weren't so easy that a 5 year old could beat them?

I'm sorry, but what does Nintendo expect when they claim that it is so amazing that all the competitors will copy them if they tell anybody a single detail?  The fans wouldn't hype it up beyond belief if they had some idea of what was possible >_>.  Or I wouldn't....

Seems a bit weird to drop the prices that much for a release.  Sounds like sega sports is losing it's reputation as a strong contendor again.

Sega did lose that reputation, but I think they are getting it back - their profits went up ~97 percent for 2003.  They must be doing something right.

It's different TV standards.  PAL TVs use different voltages or something.  I don't know the exact details but they wouldn't be able to just remove regional lockup and have consoles made for North American TVs work.

Actually, all eletrical outlets in Europe have a higher voltage than the ones in the United States.  The reason?  When electricity was first "invented", so to speak, they weren't very good at it and couldn't get higher voltages.  So the outlets in the United States were a lower voltage.  But by the time they made their way over to Europe, they had become significantly better and could get higher voltages.  Thus, outlets over there had a higher voltage than the ones here.  The only reason that the United States didn't switch over to the higher voltage outlets is because there were already so many people using the lower voltage outlets.

What this means is that if you plugged your NSTC Gamecube into an outlet in Europe, it would be getting so much more voltage than it needs that it would probably short out.  That is why you need an adaptor when you travel to Europe for your electronics.

.... I can't believe I just wasted my time doing that >.>

Nintendo Gaming / RE: The inevitable DS vs PSP debate.

Well honestly, I don't think that DOA3 is even close to the best looking X-Box game.... Look, I do think that his games could run on the GCN (well maybe a few resolution downgrades....), but the systems are close to the same.

Wow.. I agree with almost all of that.  Except the thing about more impressive GCN games - I think that Splinter Cell looks best on the X-Box, and most games look a just a tad better.  But when it comes to the best looking first-party GCN games and the best looking X-Box games, the difference is just about negligible...

I suppose that that could make you like it more - but far surpasses OoT, just because of a single swordfight ?

I think it's fitting that the one game to steal the idea will likely fly under the radar and as a multiplatform title is no threat to the Cube or Super Mario Sunshine. Hopefully this will teach Nintendo not to hype up lame ideas as so incredibly innovative that they must be kept secret.

Thank you T_T.

But Nintendo has never done that with their portables... Hopefully they'll keep up that practice of no regional lock out with portables.

I don't think they thought the color mattered to consumers all that much... I would think that the fact that the black GCN outsold the purple GCN by quite a large margin would tell them differently .

It being one of the greatest games is purely subjective.  There are many, many people who hate the game, yet love the other Zelda games - all I've said is that it has flaws that bring it down some, in my eyes.  How am I "undermining" the game?

And I didn't argue against OoT being intentionally similar to ALttP - I asked if you could find it so that I could show someone else.  I can't just tell them that some random person on the internet told me; that doesn't look credible at all.  So I'm asking for a quote or the interview, if you have it.

I think it's quite obvious the developer hasn't tried hard enough to find ideas for the DS- the simple fact that they're in a rut should say as much.

No, that's just stupid.  Every developer gets stuck in a rut at times and they have to try to work around it.  He doesn't deserve all this just because he talked openly about problems that they were having on the company website.
