Actually, one (major, I think) thing has changed in the battle system. No longer do you automatically defend if the enemy your character has targeted dies. Instead, like many other games, the targeting just switches to the next enemy in the cycle. I was very pleasantly surprised by this small but very meaningful change.
That said, the game feels very easy. I swear I'm tripping over rare items every 20 steps...
