The music does seem to be very well done and fun to listen to (at least the samples that were provided above, at http://seanbeeson.com/Eternitys_Child/Eternitys_Child_The_Official_Soundtrack.htm)

very much Danny Elfman.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 is the only game that has utilized the Wii's potential close to the level it should be utilized.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: A year later......
« on: November 07, 2007, 04:04:22 AM »
I am very hopeful for the next year of Wii titles.  The thing that has given me the most hope is the preview of Pro Evolution Soccer for Wii.  When I first learned about the controls the Wii would be utilizing, I imagined ways it could be used in any types of games.  When I thought of sports games, I thought of controlling the player's movement with the nunchuk and controlling the aiming of a pass with the wii remote's pointing ability.  Pro Evolution Soccer is the first thing I've seen that uses something close to that, and it looks amazing.  If you haven't seen the preview video for the Wii controls in that game, you should check it out (I can't link to it now since I'm at work and most video sites are blocked).  This gives me hope that some games will be pushing the innovative control system side of the Wii which is quite necessary for the Wii to have as big an impact as it should on console gaming.

No music in the demo huh?  Rest assured the music will be awesome.  Jake Kaufman is on the task.  Here is a chiptune album Jake put out a few months back:  It is done strictly with the NES chipset limitations and with the intent of mimicking the familiar Konami-style music.  Yes, this is the guy doing the music for Contra 4.  It WILL be great.

TalkBack / RE: EA Spills Details on FIFA 08 Wii

This is outstanding to see.  I'm very happy to see FIFA including their normal year to year game along with something that specifically caters to the advantages of the Wii system instead of just doing a boring port.  I hope more companies follow this lead.

You should try score attack mode.  That is the crack for me.  My high score is up to 16,100.  Still not great compared to what I've seen in some youtube videos, but I'm happy with my improvement.

Well most of my experience is with Meteos Disney.  The blocks in that one are far worse than the blocks in the original.  However, the blocks in PPL are way better than both.  Maybe it's just what I'm used to with Tetris Attack, but it is just much easier on my eyes.  I don't think you can argue about Meteos Disney, though (and yes, I realize I didn't specify that in my original post(s)).  The blocks are atrocious in that one.

Anyway, about PPL, I still think this game is terrific.  I almost broke 7000 on score attack mode, but settled for 6952.  I saw on youtube a guy get 58,000, so I know I still suck, but I'm having a lot of fun regardless.

Oh it's very possible to screw it up.  Meteos bungled a whole lot of things that PPL does very well, for instance:

A) easily distinguishable blocks
B) internet play
C) variety of game play modes

Picked this one up at Best Buy on the way home today.  Always been a fan of Tetris Attack on SNES.  This game is the same game, but with stylus move-input support, wifi play, voice chat (!), and great reviews from a few sites already.  Played a couple of online matches and I'm undefeated baby.

One of my gripes for Meteos (which has a similar feel to PPL) is that the block don't contrast enough.  Not a problem in PPL.  The blocks are very high contrast.  Very easy game on the eyes.  I am thrilled.

Anyone else?

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Cooking Mama out tomorrow
« on: May 07, 2007, 05:25:23 AM »
I rented it, too.  Extremely disappointing.  My wife and I played for about 10 minutes.  We had several games where we had no idea what to do and nothing was working.  We did not play it again.  Glad I didn't splurge on release day.  Oof.

Oof I think I'm going to pass on this one, reviews are in the 5-6 out of 10 range.  Biggest complaints seem to be occasionally frustrating controls and loss of the tactile feeling of the DS version (also mentioned: repetitive music, DS-port graphics).  Consensus is rental at best.

I assume you are referring to my avatar.  It looks ok on my screen and I didn't know where to find guidelines.  I will look harder and fix it.  Apologies.

I have never played Cooking Mama but I hear the DS version is well thought of by many and it looks like it could be a lot of fun.  I'm taking the plunge on this one tomorrow or ASAP. to hold me over to Super Paper Mario.

According to http://www.cookingmamacookoff.com it is out tomorrow.  What are the chances of it actually being available in places like Best Buy and Circuit City when I go there tomorrow?  I will be in the area so I'd like to grab it if possible.  I notice on Best Buy's websites (and others) they have slightly later release dates (like the 21st and even the 29th).

Anyone else somewhat excited by this release?  It's been under the radar in my usual video game circles.
