Aladdin for the SNES and Genesis were different as they were both made by 2 different companies, however The Lion King were essentially the same game on the Genesis and the SNES.

I personally liked the Genesis version better, mostly because I didn't like the weird flipping and such you could do on the SNES.

It's not like my comments are going to hurt the company's feelings. But I do stand by my opinions.

Super Mario Galaxy looks gorgeous yes, but it doesn't look like the new Mario game I really wanna play. :/

Metroid Prime 3.. well.. hmm, perhaps I'm not enough of a Metroid fanboy to see the difference in graphics quality between 2 and 3. To me both games look the same.

I assure you this is not trolling though, surely there must be some people who expected more out of this E3 than what we got?

Nintendo Gaming / Was anyone else disappointed by E3 this year?
« on: July 14, 2007, 08:11:05 PM »
As far as I'm personally concerned, E3 was a flop. There's absolutely no games that I'm looking forward to.. Well, I suppose I can say that the WiiFit game is looking slightly interesting..but..still.. There were no earth-shattering, game realm-shaking announcements or unveilings. There was nothing overly desirable shown on screen..at least not in my opinion.

Metroid looks good but it looks like Metroid Prime 2. I guess maybe because I wasn't much of a metroid fan.

Super Mario Galaxy looks okay, but instead of going with these "Super Mario <insert environment here>" names, it doesn't seem to be that Super Mario 5 that everyone's wants. (I don't really see "New Super Mario Bros" as  SMB5.

No, it feels like Nintendo's getting "Comfortable", like they did when the SNES was doing super well. Then, the Playstation swooped in. PS3 may not be doing as well as Sony hopes, but it still doesn't mean Nintendo is in the clear for first this generation.

And what's this about all the non-games? I mean it's fine Nintendo's trying to appeal to the audiences, tap the crowd that used to shun them. But, what about the games..the epic actual games which everyone loves so?

Heh, the only non-game I'm really looking forward to is WiiMusic, and they probably won't even release that! There's no information on it, and no one seems to care.. Am I the only one who can see the potential in having a music game that can read back Midi files, and you must conduct the orchestra in the desired time and speed? The fact that it could be expandable and read actual MIDI files from the SD slot for new levels! This was a really neat concept that they just ..quietly swept under t he carpet.

I'm afraid. My Wii hasn't been played in months. Is this all I get for sitting infront of FutureShop for 16 hours in the blistering cold?

Jake definately wasn't at the VGL show I was at, unfortunately.

Oh well.

Anyway, the link is here: http://tssf.i-web.net/Remakes

Enjoy.

There's Chrono Resurrection stuff there, too

Congratulations to Jake. I've known him for a very long time, we got out of touch a while back but he was still one of the best musicians in the IRC chat rooms we used to hang out in. He was also a huge Contra fan, I specifically remember him saying he could beat Contra 1 without dying once, which is next-near impossible for anyone who's simply human.

Congratulations, Jake, if you're reading this.

Who knows, maybe the growing popularity in this series had a big part in this decision?

The "pixelation" effect when Mario wears the cap is nothing more than a dithering technique to simulate transparency. Look at Ocarina of Time, a lot of the effects couldn't use a real transparency effect because it used up too much processing power and would slow the framerate down. (The Master sword or the glowing effects in the last battle for instance).

Nintendo Gaming / RE:DS Player for Wii.. would it make sense?
« on: February 04, 2007, 07:36:53 PM »
Using the DS itself as a controller wouldn't be a bad idea for anyone who actually wants to play DS games on the big screen.

However, there's nothing that says Nintendo couldn't just release a periphreal that could simulate DS gameplay. For instance, a bluetooth wireless controller made with a touch pad and face buttons.

I read somewhere else that the update mearly fixes a bug with RGB SCART or whatever the hell it's called. It's really nothing to be concerned about.

I am having a problem with some YouTube videos in my version.  They play for literally three seconds and the video is over and it asks the usual "play again?".  I'll try redownloading the browser and see what happens.

Update:  I "erased" the Internet Channel from my console and redownloaded it.  First thing that's odd is it saved my favorites list (maybe those are saved on your online account?), but apparently the problem is still there.  Three seconds of flash video and it goes boom.

Update 2: I'm watching a Rocky and Bullwinkle episode via Google Video right now.  It's a minute into it with no issues...

Edit:  Oops, I take that back, upon looking in the Wii memory management, the favorites and settings for the Internet Channel are in there.

The favourites are saved under a savegame file in your data management, not the webserver. It is erased if you wipe that savegame, as I found out when people had problems booting the software as their Wii would crash every time they used the keyboard. Opera suggested erasing that file, but mentioned nothing about losing all of your favourites (oops. oh well, at least www.wiili.com has an amazing links page which helped me find it all again)

I get your problem whenever I try to watch videos or what not when I've been using the browser for a while. One would assume the cache is filled to the rim and the Wii has no where else to store the FLV flash video file while it's downloading, so it ends it. One way to fix this is to reboot your web browser.. Also, make sure that you don't completely fill your Wii's internal memory as this would probably contribute to it as well.

In the future I would love to see the temporary cache stored on SD cards if possible to keep the errors down to a minimum.

Yep, you're ri ght. However they didn't call it Street Fighter 2 Turbo. They called it Street Fighter 2: Special Champion Edition on the Sega Genesis. Both it and the SNES version contained Championship Edition and Hyper Fighting expansion modes from the arcade.

I was an adequate player of both the SNES version of it (It was called Street Fighter 2 Turbo: Hyper Fighting on the SNES) and the Genesis version. The SNES version was better, played better, had better sound and speed and such.

They should just stick with the SNES versions of Street Fighter. The Genesis version wasn't that different, except for the FM Synthesized music and the lower colour palette.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:How do I play video on the Wii?
« on: December 30, 2006, 09:20:55 PM »
There is an online flash site that has full episodes and it works with Nintendo Wii's internet channel, though it is illegal so I will not tell you where, or what it is. Anyone who has decent google searching skillz though should be able to find it.

I can't believe no one's mentioned the awesome Southpark Episode where Cartman froze himself because he couldn't wait for the Wii to come out, only to wake up 500 years into the future.

Nintendo Gaming / Wii Shop Channel hacked? Opera already on the Wii!
« on: November 25, 2006, 03:29:08 PM »
Just go onto youtube and type up "wii shop channel hack" and you'll get a pretty good list of people who've "hacked" their Wii's shop channel to display Google instead.

Infact, it's really not that hard. They simply redirected the DNS with some software installed on their PC's and told the Wii to use their PC's IP address as the DNS IP. In result, the web browser that the Wii Shop Channel uses now can browse the internet. It doesn't have flash, however.

The "Wii hack" community was hard at work, and they are designing portals, kinda like how the PSP community did it with Wipeout.

It's kinda cool, and I honestly don't think it voids any terms of service.. or does it?

This is definately interesting news, to say the least.

Someone's already working on a Nintendo DS Instant Messenger.

http://thoduv.drunkencoders.com/

Of course, it's homebrew. Once homebrewn TCP/IP support is added to their libraries, everyone will be rushing to get all their cool Wifi tool ideas published with working TCP/IP support, and not just UDP.

You could always check eBay. You might even find the rare Nintendo DS stylus light that Nintendo was giving out when the Nintendo DS was first released.

Here is a link that might interest some people.

No, this is not a port of Final Fantasy 7 for the DS, but it's a home brewer's developed RPG engine that can, coincidentally, read Final Fantasy 7 data files.

Now, if you put his work together with the music that I wrote for the IT format here, you will notice that FF7DS is very doable, and faithful to it's original at that.

Now you're wondering about FMV right? No problem. Check the previous link, it's got a file format of DPG. DPG is a homebrewer's creation, it is a form of mpeg that's playable on the DS at a very respectible frame rate. FF7's original framerate was 15fps, more than enough for DPG to handle at full speed.

Now if any of you have the ability to run homebrewn DS software, run a program called "MoonShell". Run that DPG file in it. It is the intro to Final Fantasy 7...running in full speed, without any problems at all. Notice the file size. That video is 2 minutes long, and it is only 3.8 megabytes large.

Keeping in mind that most data files in FF7 actually repeat across all 3 discs, and keeping in mind that backgrounds/sprites/etc on the original Playstation version were VERY uncompressed, you can come to one undeniable conclusion: FF7DS is not only possible in it's entirety, but it's faithfulness would be almost astonishing.

Infact, I was confident in saying to someone else that, if done properly, the game itself wouldn't be more than say, 150 megabytes in total. Considering the press and attention FF7 would bring to the DS, Nintendo would more than likely cut Square Enix a deal with the DS Card prices. It would make them all much more money in the long run, anyway.

Now, the only problem is, finding a development group who'd be talented and dedicated enough to actually pull it off, properly.

If people are doubtful about the DS's 3D capabilities, read Ficedula's website (The first link in this post here ) He provides very good information regarding character model poly counts and such.

EDIT: On FF8 and 9: It's possible but a lot less likely than FF7. There were significant advances in all the technology used in these games, meaning much larger assets would need to be compressed. It's unlikely 8 or 9 would ever see the light of day on the DS. FF7 has the best chance, in my opinion.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:lego star wars GBA... any love?

That's a silly thing to say. If anything, this could spark more interest in wanting to see what else would be cool in a "LEGO universe" ...

If anything this might spark more full-sized Star Wars models.. ugh..

The FF7 for GBA thing came out a little sooner than my little joke I made awhile ago was complete, otherwise I would have supported the whole joke about FF7GBA.. with this:

FF7GBA sound demo

It was all made with legitimate GBA sound software, too.. I actually fooled someone into thinking that I had FF7 on GBA, it was great..

Terra's theme would be relatively easy to remake.. but the song imo is too mellow and boring.. o.o Wouldn't you want something like the decisive battle, instead?

Actually, nope. I've remade that song so many times, I almost know the insides and outsides of it completely. I did, however, use my many Zeromus remakes to guide me.

Here is the song re-recorded, on another server (my main one).. I don't know if it will be a fast or a slow download, though..probably slow.

Anyway, I'm thinking about a Chrono Trigger song next.. Maybe Corridors of Time..?

I unlocked the pro edit feature in my game, so this is the first song I remade with it! (Within the limits of the music system, anyway):

(Forgive the free webspace..my personal webspace is down right now)

Trust me, there's no way in hell anyone could play that organ line. Looking at it in the practice area just makes you stare in awe (Especially in hard mode).

Also, I plan on remaking some Chrono Trigger music too, when I have time.. what do you all think?

Regardless of whether it is a good remake or as bad as they come, being told to stop because of IP law breach should not be news to these people, it should be expected.

Hopefully they place their talent into an original game idea instead of riding off the back of the talent of another company.

And Valkan, its NOTHING like making a UT mod! UT has clear and straight-forward licensing laws for UT mods.

In response to the commentry about SE taking this on board, or employing the dudes, i find that rediculous. SE has already invested vast $ in creating 3D engines for their games, why would they bother investing in a (no doubt) inefficient, amatuer engine or artist? Oh, and don't forget the language barrier... i doubt the creators of this unlicensed remake speak Japanese.

It's very easy to sit there and type in a message box in a forum and call us a bunch of "amateurs", with a "(no doubt) innefficient, amateur engine" . It's also very easy to sit on your high chair like that and claim you know everything there is to know about us, our project, and the hard work we put into it.

But it also makes you look like a jack-ass. Congratulations.

To think you know everything there is to know about the team (who, by the way, contain members who are actually in the game industry) and to think you know everything there is about the engines we created and used for this demo, is not only ignorant, it's laugable. But hey, you'll always have forums to visit to make yourself feel important.

To everyone else, thank you for all of your support. Yes, we knew this day could come, yes we were dreading it every single day in the development, but we went on.  We were creating it as a tribute toward a game we all adored. And, despite what some people say, it was not our entry into the games industry. We always stated, "In the unlikely event that Square Enix hire us" so, we of course were not expecting to be hired, either.

We were hoping that since this was never intended to neither make money, nor be the entire game, that they would let us continue working on it. Regardless, we are disappointed that people will never get to see the hard work that we put into this.

Anyway, thank you all for your support over the past few months. Planet GameCube has especially been good to us. If anything comes up with this issue, or if anything new happens with other projects, we'll let you know definately.
