More like Hometown Bore-y
Harvest Moon 64 will always have a special place in my heart, however, I can't imagine ever getting into another one quite so much. Growing crops & milking wiv-- I mean, cows, seems to have lost its appeal for me after that first iteration (I never played the SNES/earlier versions <I think there was a handheld verz before it, but idc enough to wiki it haha>). I tried to get into a couple of the newer handhelds, and even GC's A Wonderful Life...but they all seemed to have lost that original charm from my first experience with the series.
Hell, one of my best video game memories is when I had a snow day in the 4th grade and was able to play Harvest Moon 64 for roughly 6 hours. It was glorious. I married the hell out of Ellie too. I think I managed to make a baby pop out of her by hour 5 too. Good times.
And if I don't want to return to a farming/marriage sim, I doubt I'll want anything to do with a shop-owner sim. Animal Crossing seems to have dominated that simian (not in the monkey sense) world...minus the whole marriage thing, but I doubt it'd go over well if they let you marry one of the animal townspeople -- though, I'd be liar if I said I wouldn't happily force Ribbot into metallic matrimony. Love at first zzrrbbitt.
