Nintendo Summer 2011: A Rope Of Sand
« on: June 30, 2011, 03:52:41 PM »

What games should you be looking forward to this summer? Not many!

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/editorial/26993

Hopefully, if you're a Nintendo fan, you're enjoying the solid 3DS launch line-up, the eShop, and the two solid June releases (The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D and Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D) that are unfortunately, no matter how you shake it, more or less ports. The summer, specifically for 3DS, is filled with a few decent titles but no real standouts. Pac-Man & Galaga Dimensions and Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked (both unfortunately, no matter how you shake it, are kind of ports) headline the slate of (potentially) five 3DS games, none from Nintendo.

The bigger problem is the lineup on Wii. While I have my own little soft-spot for Madden, that is the marquee Wii title over the next two months. Every other game is licensed or from Ubisoft. While we had two Nintendo-published Wii titles in June (that makes it three in 2011), Mystery Case Files and Wii Play: Motion don't exactly make anyone that reads this site wet with anticipation.

If you're really curious about the lineup I'm looking at, check it out below:

  • Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows Part Two Part 2 (Wii/DS) - July 12, 2011
  • Just Dance Summer Party (Wii) - July 2011
  • Mahjong Cub3D (3DS) - July 19, 2011
  • Captain America (Wii/DS) - July 19, 2011
  • Pac-Man & Galaga Dimensions (3DS) - July 26, 2011
  • Nicktoons MLB (Wii/DS) - August 2011
  • Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked (3DS) - August 2011
  • Dragon Quest Monsters Joker 2 (DS) - August 21, 2011
  • Madden NFL 12 (Wii) - August 30, 2011
  • James Noir Hollywood Crimes (3DS) - August 2011
  • Driver San Francisco (Wii) - August 2011
  • Driver Renegade (3DS) - August 2011

Now, I know I'm taking all this from a small sample size, and I'd be willing to hear people out if it weren't for the fact that I wrote a very similar article about the second quarter of 2011. I also know that people could go to their backlog. By all means, please do. You all have the luxury of totally ignoring the current nature of the industry. In my position, I don't. So, I'm going to foolishly hope that the fall will blow my mind away, and this summer pain is only temporary. Pretty soon, I'll just have a countdown to Star Fox 64 3D, Crush 3D, and Bit.Trip Saga, all slated for an early September release on 3DS. Unfortunately, no matter how you shake it, they are kind of ports.

A couple of things.

Can We get the Frowny Wii graphic again :D
Is a "Rope of Sand" from something?

Now to the serious.  Out of that Wii list the impressions of Captain America: Super Soldier makes me think that may be an enjoyable Brawler so, I'm looking forward to hearing about that.

I'm hoping Crush 3D is good.  The concept, if it really does leverage the 3D and then throwing you to true 2D, is an interesting use.  Sounds like an original Idea you think of for the 3DS.  Sort of funny it was on PSP.  I wouldn't mind some of the PSP lineup moving over, Megaman: Powered Up for example.  Mentioning that anyone heard of what Legends is up to?

I'm a largish fan of SF64 but, I bought it on Virtual console and I don't know if I really want to buy it for 3DS at full 3DS price since I got my fix for the same game from VC.  Maybe in a 2-4 years from now.  $15-20 would probably sell me.

I was all ready to get Bit.Trip Saga because I heard the games where good and be nice to have them in a collection but, their is a bigger Wii version coming and it becomes would I be gimping myself if I got the 3DS version.  I only want to buy these games once.  I don't want to buy them twice.

Then their is Cave... Oh Wait it was delayed.

Seems the 3DS, at the moment, shaping up to be a Port of Call for games.  Though all these ports really should have the base price lowered if its all they are providing.  A port should not have a new game price unless its added enough to be a new game, like RE4 Wii where the controls really enhanced that game.

What's a Mahjong Cub?
A Cub made of tiles that will grow to be a Mahjong Bear?

Alright  after some investigation into "A Rope of Sand"  I found 3 things it could be.

1.Article (I only skimmed)
2.A Movie
3.Urban Dictionary

In Context I'm fairly sure that the Urban Dictionary definition is the correct one.

Would that be worth finding the episodes online to watch?

I'm anticipating Wii Play Motion. My sister likes the first game so this'll be another fun game for us to play together. I just haven't bought it yet since it only comes bundled with a Wiimote, which I don't need.

It's worth buying the DVD, if that tells you anything.

The only thing that remotely interests me is Joker 2 and even then I'm waiting for confirmation that the Professional content made it in. I'm not holding my breath, though.

Is the only thing I'm thinking about buying. I jumped ship on Resident Evil before the reviews, and I'll play with what I got for the near future.
