Zangeki no Reginleiv Development Lasted More Than Three Years

The MotionPlus action title faced its share of challenges, and then some.

In a recent Iwata Asks interview, producer Hitoshi Yamagami revealed that upcoming Wii action title Zangeki no Reginleiv started development in 2006, before the Wii had even been released.

The game is set to release on February 11 in Japan, giving the title a development life of more than three years.   The game is developer Sandlot's first effort on the Wii.

The interview also gives some new details about the decisions behind the game, such as the violence.  The development team ended up deciding the violence, which involves severed limbs, was acceptable as it was not being acted upon humans, but rather mythological creatures.  The game received the Japanese rating of CERO D, which is similar to the ESRB's M rating, which prompted Nintendo to pack it in a black box instead of the standard white case.

It's in Japanese, but here it is: http://www.nintendo.co.jp/wii/interview/rznj/vol1/index.html?link=rss

It's listed as the source if you view it on the main site, but that source link doesn't come through on the talkback thread.

We're hoping to get this translated and up on the site soon.

The last games Sandlot released came out in 2006 so it's no wonder they've been working on ZnR since then. Some site (GoNintendo?)was all negative because of the Famitsu review, I just think Famitsu (and most of the rest of the gaming press) is fundamentally unable to properly review a Sandlot game due to an overemphasis on polish.

Not to mention that Famitsu tends to overrate some games (Nintendogs...).

Famitsu's rating have lost all value since it became known that their reviews can basically be bought.
