Super Mario Maker Stage Coming To Smash Bros

Master Hand, Crazy Hand, move over for Maker Hand.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/41152/super-mario-maker-stage-coming-to-smash-bros

The next Smash Bros stage has been announced, and it will be themed around Super Mario Maker.

The Super Mario Maker stage will release on September 30 for both Wii U and 3DS, and will feature a randomly designed stage that will be drawn in as soon as the match starts. The stage elements will be random, with blocks that are broken being replaced within a couple of seconds. All four of Super Mario Maker's games will be represented.

No pricing information has been announced for the stage, and there is no word on whether the stage will be the only DLC release that day.

Great...another Mario stage. Because CLEARLY there weren't enough of those in Smash already. *sigh* Oh well. I like interactive stages, so increasingly lame franchise aside this could be a cool stage.

Looks like a fun stage though it reminds me how lame the Super Smash Bros. for Wii U stage editor is.

Considering this doesn't come out until Sep 30 I'd imagine there's more DLC coming out around that time as well.  Had it not been for the dating mining months earlier, Roy and Ryu would have been revealed on the same day they were announced to be DLC characters people could actually purchase.

So it wouldn't be a huge surprise if we get some DLC characters added that day as well.

Could it? Because by the time you got around to thinking anything positive about this announcement, you sure made it sound like this was an irredeemably bad idea. Guess you got to fulfill that quota of saying three negative things about something before saying anything positive about it.

Frankly, I find this stage amazing. The fact that it has the chance to be so infinitely random is amazing to me. Plus, it allows for representation of classic games like SMB, SMB3 and SMW while keeping them all contained to one stage instead of needing 3 stages altogether. One of the reasons why I think I still like Melee so much is that many of its stages are based off classic SNES and N64 games. As each Smash Bros focuses more on the last and current generation of games for stage design, I always like when a stage sticks out as being from something older and more classic. Yet stages can get static and boring as well so to have a stage with some many possibilities is so smart. No matter how good a player is, they have to adapt each time. I think this might be the best DLC for Smash Bros announced yet and I haven't even played it. The idea alone is brilliant!

It's Mario, the most overexposed and increasingly generic franchise Nintendo has, and one that already sees a lot of stages in Smash. We get new stages so rarely, it's hard to get excited for yet another Mario stage, especially when we already have 2D Mario nicely covered with the New Super Mario Bros. stage and IIRC one of the stages ported from Brawl.  If we're going to get new stages, I'd rather they be from something that isn't already thoroughly covered by the existing stages. If this trend continues, we'll probably get a new stage for Star Fox in November since Yoshi got one at launch. Maybe a Xenoblade X stage in December.

This looks like it could be the best stage in the Wii U game. Not that that says much, but still...

I don't see how having a stage in a particular franchise can be a bad thing.  The only bad thing that could come is that if the stage were generic or identical to a stage that already exists.  This may be "another" Mario stage, but it has a chance at being the one of the most creative and exciting stages in the game.

I'm pretty hyped about this one and really eager to play it.

and Mario is still seen as the face of gaming...

and Mario is still the big bad face of gaming, and their most popular franchise.
