"Woof woof! Look at me! I'm money!"

UBISOFT TO PUBLISH DOGZ VIDEO GAME EXCLUSIVELY FOR NINTENDO GAME BOY ADVANCE IN NOVEMBER

First Puppy Simulation Game Available for Game Boy Advance Owners

SAN FRANCISCO - October 10, 2005 - Today Ubisoft, one of the world's largest  video game publishers, announced that it has signed an exclusive licensing  agreement with MTO Co., Ltd. to distribute Dogz, the first puppy simulation  game to be available exclusively for Nintendo's Game Boy Advance. Ubisoft  will distribute Dogz worldwide, with the exception of Japan, in November of  this year.

Dogz is a pet simulation game that lets owners name, train and play with a  realistic puppy. Players create and control a main character and choose one  of 49 different dogs from 18 different breeds. As characters in the game,  owners can take their puppies everywhere within the virtual environment,  from through the house to around the neighborhood to visit friends.

Gamers will earn their puppy's love and loyalty by remembering to feed and  groom it and reward it when it does things correctly. Owners can train the  puppy to lie down, shake, fetch and perform many other tricks.

"Ubisoft is pleased to bring such a unique puppy simulation game to the  millions of Game Boy Advance owners around the world," said Tony Kee, vice  president of marketing at Ubisoft. "We are confident that players will enjoy  caring for and watching their puppies grow, and we have a significant  television campaign in place to get the word out about this extremely fun  and rewarding game."

Key Features:

  • Three Mini-games Available: Run Puppy Run!, Puppy Reversi and Puppy Quiz  with a cuddly new companion.

  • Visiting Mode: By linking two Game Boy Advance systems, players can send  their puppy off to a friend's house.

  • Always Together Mode: After players complete the game, up to three puppies'  data are saved through an included backup feature. When players go to Always  Together Mode, they will be able to load one of their previous puppies' data  and play with it anytime.

Dogz carries an ESRB rating of "E" (everyone). For more information and  updates about Dogz, please visit www.ubi.com.

    Unique?

Many of the features named can already be done in Nintendogs. Furthermore, who wants to bet that many of Nintendogs' unique features aren't in Dogz? And who also wants to bet that the realistic animation of the dogs' playful nature isn't in Dogz either?

If you're talking about Pocket Dogs, I remember hearing about that as far back as E3.

Good point. I do remember "Dogz" and "Catz" being announced - and made - some time back. I guess they didn't come out in the US, but rather in Europe? They were apparently based on some toy line.

Which makes this two of the things I hate about "creative" industries:

    1) tie-ins
    2) ripoffs

The "ripoff" here is that once Nintendogs became extremely popular, THEN they decided to announce this game for the US.

As edgeblade said in that other thread, what will you use to interact with your dog? Buttons, as compared to a touchscreen?

Catz and Dogz were PC games. Nothing interesting, rather crappy and nowhere near as interactive as Nintendogs. Sure, they were first but they are like Space Invaders to R-Type Final.

There's also an almost-six-year-old Game Boy Color version.  I can't comment to how it played.  Just sayin', Nintendo is far from the first to develop a dog sim.

Nintendo is the Christopher Columbus of Dog sims. They weren't the first there, but they were the first to make people take notice.

now that I think about it, it will suck on the GBA, this are PC games that need a mouse, or of course, a touchscreen.
