Details on Wii U Version of Project CARS Emerge

Specific details of how the tablet controller will be used revealed on developer's website.

A PDF document on UK developer Slightly Mad's website revealed details on how the unique functions of the Wii U controller will be fully utilised for this version of the game

First of all, the game will be fully playable on just the controller for "on-the-go, around the house" play. However the main control set up will utilize tilt-based steering, with the controller screen showing switches and buttons usually found on a traditional racing wheel. In addition to that, the controller screen can be toggled between a rear-view mirror, overhead map, and telemetry, presumedly showing statistics of your lap times and other technical data.

When the car goes into a pit lane, the screen will also allow for quick selection of tires and fuel amount by swiping the screen. The camera will also be used, not only for your profile photograph but for capturing players faces after winning a race, possibly not dissimilar to how Star Fox 64 3D does in multiplayer. Photos can also be shared by flicking them to the TV screen,  a system feature previously shown during the E3 2011 conference with YouTube videos. Lastly "private chat" will be accessible on the controller too, whether this is text-based chat or full voice chat (or both), is not clear.

There is currently no release date set for Project CARS, but we expect to see more details emerge during E3, which starts on June 5.

I figured they'd use a tilt feature like in the Wii remotes, but being able to play on the toich screen without the TV makes it even cooler.

If Slightly Mad Studios is confident in the tablet controller to have it's motion sensing be the steering wheel, then it makes me more eager to see the controller in action. It won't be long now.

"Around the house" is an interesting titbit of information I took from that, couple that with the rumours of the signal strength being increased allowing for greater range, I'm very excited to test out just how far away from the system we can play games.

Not that my place is that big, if I can play in the office but have the Wii U in the living room that'd be awesome!
Also I just thought, the Wii U will be fully playable without the need of a TV at all right?
Meaning as long as you kind find a power socket - you can play anywhere! (Car power adaptors incoming?)
I am excite!  :D

Why in the hell did I never think about the car thing? A whole new branch of possibilities opened up to me after that... thank you!

Now imagine Google Maps Street View the game. Mount your uMote to your cars steering wheel and see if you can make it to your destination.

Where you can drive around your city while you are driving around your city....

Considering this functionality was shown at E3 2011, I think they're right.

I have had less than ideal experiences using just the Wii remote to steer in Mario Kart Wii and F.A.S.T. Racing League.

Looking at how simulation-minded Project C.A.R.S. is, the motion sensing in the tablet controller would have to be great if Slightly Mad Studios has it as a controller option. This reminds me that there weren't any racing games that took advantage of the Wii Motion +. That's a shame since I really enjoyed the controls of the air plane in Wii Sports Resort and the flying beetle in The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword.
