Battles of Prince of Persia is a card-based strategy game that dives deeper into the storyline and includes multiplayer features.

UBISOFT ANNOUNCES BATTLES OF PRINCE OF PERSIA® EXCLUSIVELY FOR NINTENDO DS™

The Critically-Acclaimed Prince of Persia® Franchise Embarks  on a Brand-New Adventure

SAN FRANCISCO, CA – July 22nd, 2005 – Today Ubisoft announced Battles of Prince of Persia®, a new game developed exclusively for the Nintendo DS™. Battles of Prince of Persia® is a turn-based tactical game driven by a collectible card system set in the Prince of Persia® universe.  Developed by Ubisoft’s Montreal studio, the game puts players in control of large armies from different regions that are battling for supreme power. All the action is regulated through the use of cards that players collect when going through the single player scenario. The game also features multiplayer modes that allow players to battle it out with friends or trade cards to customize their decks.  Battles of Prince of Persia® is scheduled for release in Holiday 2005.

About the Game
Battles of Prince of Persia®’s storyline takes place between Prince of Persia The Sands of Time™ and Prince of Persia: Warrior Within™.  The game will focus on the appearance of the Dahaka and how the Prince, while trying to rid himself of the terrible creature, ignites a conflict between Persia and India by releasing an ancient evil that has caused much death and devastation.  Players will be able to battle it out from not only the Prince’s perspective, but also from that of several Generals who hold key roles in the conflict between the nations. Game features include:
â€˘New depth in tactical gameplay: A host of original rules bring a fresh depth to tacticals games.
â€˘Collect and trade cards: By advancing in the single player mode, collect money and purchase new cards to trade and make more powerful decks. Don’t like your cards? Trade them with your friends.
â€˘Intricate storyline: Follow the story from the point of view of any of the participants and learn what happens to the Prince and his land between the stories of Prince of Persia Sands of Time™ and Prince of Persia Warrior Within™.
â€˘Nine different characters: Play any of the nine Generals in single player or in multiplayer. Create the army you want from any of the three factions and 27 units.
â€˘Multiplayer mode: Fully customizable multiplayer mode ensures replay value. Challenge someone who has the game or someone who doesn’t in either Multiboot mode or Hotseat.

Smells like a blatant rip off of the Advance Wars series, but hey, if they can pull it off and make it fun, who am I to complain?

-SB
"OK, first we need someone to complain about something trivial. Golden or S_B should do. Then we get someone to defend the game, like Bill or Mashiro. Finally add some Unclebob or Pro666 randomness and the thread should go to hell right away." -Pap64

Card battling?  Hmm, they'd be hard pressed to pull off an original concept based on what I've heard so far.  Hopefully they can take what others have and make it better.  Or they can just put a good six months into and crap out another Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory DS game.

Ubi Soft are a disaster. Why not port the SNES Prince of Persia? It was fisted up and expanded on the PC one.

Actually, I think it's pretty cool UbiSoft's trying something different. =(

Different as in "card battling and strategy games seem to sell well on handhelds."

Only when associated to popular franchises. Yu-Gi-Oh sells, that doesn't mean "Doom: The Trading Card Game" would sell.

I actually think Doom:TCG would be good in terms of doom, it would be more interesting than Doom 3...

I doubt it. You'd have to decide every turn whether you'd like to use your gun (play cards) or the flashlight (see what's going on)...

Ahaha, well.. different for UbiSoft. It's not another "UbiSoft once again attempts to squish a 3D game onto DS with sexy results!" Because UbiSoft's sexy results are quite scary.

Wouldn't it be interesting if Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories was a card-based battler?  "Hey, they did it with Metal Gear Acid, we can do it with Grand Theft Auto!"

You need the best deck in order to play "Hot Coffee"
