Guitar Hero 3 Coming to Wii
« on: April 09, 2007, 05:38:41 PM »
RedOctane's official website confirms the game's existence, target platforms, and a release window.
 http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/newsArt.cfm?artid=13295

RedOctane, the original publisher of Guitar Hero and Guitar Hero 2 (and now a subsidiary of Activision), has confirmed on its official website that the next game in the series is planned for a wide multiplatform release, including a Wii version.  The game is scheduled to ship later this year.  Here's the exact quote:

"Guitar Hero 3 for the Playstation 2, PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii are currently scheduled for release in the United States in Fall of 2007."

No other details are given, but with this confirmation and the recently announced competition from EA's Rock Band (created by the original Guitar Hero developers, Harmonix), it probably won't be long before Activision spills the beans on GH3.

Thanks to rny9286 for the news tip!

still no word on a guitar that has the WiiMote plug into it.  To do it any other way would be a waist

Agreed, AND using the Wiimote would hopefully make the thing cheaper. But either way... YES! Must buy for me!

A glooming peace this morning with it brings;
The sun, for sorrow, will not show his head:
Go hence, to have more talk of these sad things;
Some shall be pardon'd, and some punished:
For never was a story of more woe
Than this of Sega and her Mashiro.

How would the remote be utilized in a guitar accessory?  Or are you suggesting using it just for its bluetooth components?

Not having a PS2 or an Xbox 360 (though I plan to get an Xbox 360 when the Elite comes out), this will be my first chance to play the series. I just hope they don't raise the price again (since Guitar Hero II was more expensive than the first).

BTW, I am rny9286 (it's my e-mail address), it's pretty cool to see to be credited on NWR.

It would handle communication with the system as well as the motion sensor for activating Star Power.  So, it would make the guitar slightly cheaper than a wired one on other systems, but it'd be wireless.  Add that to the fact that the game itself would be $10 cheaper than on PS3 and 360, and you've got a compelling reason to get the Wii version instead.

Personally, the Xbox Live components are absolutely worth the extra cost to me, but not to everyone, I'm sure.

Or how about you skip the Wiimote and produce a wireless guitar accessory? Even the 360 version was wired (maybe wireless is on the way, but that's not the point). Star Power detection isn't hard to implement - it'd be excessive if the Wiimote was used solely for it. Plus plugging into the Wiimote means you're draining the Wiimote batteries or both devices - a waste of batteries. Make it a standalone, or I'll try swinging home runs in Wii Sports with my guitar. And don't think I won't (pics TBA).

Any word on downloadable content with GH3? It would be great if they put out songs as microtransactions that people could download to add to the ones included in the game. Nickel and Dime me, Activision!

The point of attaching the Wii Remote is that every Wii owner already has one.  So you get wireless functionality for free, as well as the motion sensor.  Playing any game uses the Wii Remote's batteries, so GH3 would be no different.

Here's hoping that the Wii GH3 gets online support and downloadable content equal to the PS3 and 360 versions.

What do you mean, you'd be draining the batteries in both devices?  There's no reason to have batteries in the guitar if you've got the Wii Controller attached to it.

Like others have said though - attaching the Wii remote to the guitar gives you a wireless guitar - a whole lot cheaper than they could do otherwise.  And while the idea of using the motion sensing abilities of the Wii remote to activate Star Power sounds lackluster - what if the game was programmed to have your on-screen character mimmick your every move with the guitar and you get some performance rating based on your l33t moves?  What kind of Guitar Hero just stands (or sits) there the whole time they're on stage anyway?  Let's make 'em move!
Just some random guy on the internet who has a different opinion of games than you.

I'm speaking hypothetically, not practically. There's lots of ways to implement it.

I hope they make good use of the Wiimote, like actually tracking the position of the guitar onscreen. Playing in extraordinary positions could earn bonus points - you know, playing the guitar behind the head, throwing the guitar around during a pause, guitar on fire, destroying the guitar during Star Power mode, etc etc.

I'm a big fan of Rock so this is good news, but I just hope they improve upon the song list as much as they did between 1 and 2.

Side note on Attack of the Show on G4 this really hot girl asked about GH3 (making her hotter for liking video games) and asked if we would ever see some Pantera, Tool, and Deftones. That's when I fell in love... LoL jk.

It's nice to see more people jump on the Wii bandwagon, it's going to be scary when there are AAA games coming out on a monthly basis.

Yeah if they could have a guitar shell it would be awesome.

The way I look at it, the classic controller attachment has 8 buttons on. Wonder if there's a way to have a connection on the guitar that you plug the remote into and it thinks the guitar is the classic controller giving you 8 buttons to map, which would be more than enough for a guitar.

I really don't see why the Guitar couldn't have buttons to replace all of the Classic + Wiimote buttons.

The guitar could basically be a re-shaped version of the Classic Controller... with less buttons!

Well, to be honest all the 360 version has is leaderboards, and leaderboards are really...REALLY not worth it and doesn't make an "online" game.  The only thing worth it is downloadable new music

Yeah I know what you're talking about, took me a minute to recall it though.

It'll be interesting if Guitar Hero 3 and Rock Band both wind up on the Wii. Wouldn't that be the ultimate music showdown?

Wouldn't it be best to have a slot on the guitar that the remote fits perfectly in, and with a slight push the attachment port would click into place?
