Podcast Discussion / Re: Episode 442: You Got to Have a Fall Guy

It also seems like a lot of Fire Emblem games came out at the end of a console's lifespan. If 1990 marks the start of the end of NES, then both FE1 (1990) and FE2 (1992) are included. FE4 came out of SNES in May 1996, followed by FE5 as a (the?) 1999 SNES title. FE8 was 2004/5 for the GBA, and FE9 was 2005 Gamecube. FE12 was a 2010 DS game, and FE14 looks like it will be at the end of the 3DS's life as well. That's more than half of the series' games released at the end of a console's life.

I hate the way the SKU is split and DLC is required (?) if you want the full story. I buy retail games as a choice, but this and Splatoon feel like I'm being pushed to digital regardless of my preference.

Looks awesome, but I'm probably going to pass because of the way it's being handled.

Would it actually be any different if it was one game that cost $55? I don't see the difference.

Oh boy. If there's an appropriately priced limited edition bundle that'll be up for pre-order for more than 9 seconds, I'll be alright with this.

Well, if we look to Pokemon for precedent, there was that AlphaSapphire/OmegaRuby bundle that was...78.99 or something like that?   Basically, saving you a dollar?  Well there you go.  Thanks, Nintendo.

Why are you looking at Pokemon for this? Look at how this is being handled in Japan. When you buy one game, you are able to buy the other game for about $15. Imo, this is very fair. $15 for for another complete Fire Emblem game? Sweet.

The versions of the game will be called Birthright & Conquest.

It's in the captions of the Fates trailer.

Why is everyone freaking out about this? There is enough content in each path to constitute two versions. There is no reason to complain about getting extra content, and it is petty to complain about paying for content.

SMTxFE has a Winter 2015 release date for Japan. No word about the west yet.

I'm actually pretty interested in "my castle". It feels like Gaiden's villages, Path of Radiance's base, and Awakening's barracks and streetpass functions all rolled up in one. The touching thing is weird, but at least it seems like an easy way to build supports.

The other story shouldn't be a DLC and you shouldn't be locked out of one part of your game.

They are essentially making more than one game. There is no reason for them to price it as one game. If the game included both routes but cost $60 no one would complain, but because it is $40 plus optional DLC people get upset. It makes no sense.

There's not much reason to be mad about multiple versions of FE14. Yes the first six chapters are the same, but you are still getting at least an extra 75% of the game for less than 40% of the cost of the game. This is miles better than Awakening's fan service DLC, which all together costs more than the game at retail. And this DLC will actually be meaningful too! Complaining about it is awfully petty.

But Nintendo still has no excuse for the amiibo situation. And the card game probably won't be localized anyway. I don't include recruiting a legacy character such as Marth, Lucina, or Minerva as DLC. It is more of a meaningless bonus to people who buy the TCG.
