Toon Link Joins the Roster for Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U
« on: September 26, 2013, 06:38:51 AM »

The cel-shaded hero returns, with his giant cat-eyes in full force.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/35522

Toon Link will return as a playable fighter in Nintendo's upcoming Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U.

The star of The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker, Phantom Hourglass, Spirit Tracks and the former title's upcoming HD remake, Toon Link made his series debut in the previous game, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, replacing Melee's Young Link. Newly-released gameplay images indicate that he will retain many of his previous moves, including the Spin Attack, Hero's Bow and bombs.

Toon Link is the latest addition to a now 16-strong character roster, which includes newcomers such as Villager, the Wii Fit Trainer and Capcom's Mega Man.

I'm interested in new moves and changes (if any though other characters have gotten new/updated moves). Sakurai should give Toon Link some Toon Link attributes like the Deku Leaf and the Skull Hammer from Wind Waker and maybe the Four Sword as his Final Smash. It just feels wasteful to put Toon Link in the game without taking full advantage of the character.

Glad to see him return. For one the younger Link was always a hidden character so seeing him right away, it makes way for cooler surprises. I love that this flies in the face of everyone who say's "Toon Link can't be playable he's in the Spirit Tracks stage!" Hopefully he'll get more moves that define this particular Link but already I'm not counting on it.

Apparently "we need to cut the roster down for this new Smash Bros." equates to "bring on the clones!"  Yeah, Toon Link did play differently than regular Link with his floatier attack style, but I just can't give a ****.  Hopefully the next reveal will push me towards wanting this game again.

Of all the clones they could bring to this game, Toon Link actually makes the most sense. He also had the strongest following. I don't like the way real Link handles, so I'm glad to see Toon Link return.

At the moment, I believe the total roster count is 18. I was hoping to see Sonic return, and I'm still mildly disappointed with the newcomer selections of Wii Fit Trainer and Animal Crossing Villager. Mega man is awesome. Bring us one of the Belmont's from Castlevania, too!

I absolutely love Wii Fit Trainer as a newcomer. I never would have thought of her at all, but once she was announced, before I saw her introduction video, it just made so much sense. I could envision many of her moves. Wii Fit Trainer is a perfect example of what Super Smash Bros. is all about. She's an important part of Nintendo's history; she should be in the game. I may not be as excited about Villager (since I never got into Animal Crossing), but I feel the same way. We got two new Nintendo series being represented. I'm happy about that.

I prefer this grayscale Wii fit trainer over the colorized version in Wii Fit U.

1) They're getting out all of the "duh" character selections now. Why would they blow more surprises in the middle of development? Hype early, hype late.  I remember back in the day how exciting it was to unlock a character you had no idea was in the game. It's not coming out for a while so just wait guys.

2) I hope the "clones" become actual characters this time since they're working with Namco. I'm waiting for use of Ganondorf's sword, still

3) I'm hoping for some real alternate skins like Wario got in Brawl. I'm not sure why it was so hard to give Samus other suit models or keep a Dr. Mario alternate costume that still spit pills instead of a separate character.

4) Say still spits pills three times fast.

Sonic will more then likely be shown around the time Lost World is released next month.  Olimar was shown around Pikmin 3's Japanese release date, Luigi around Dream Teams release date, and now Toon Link around Wind Waker HD's Japanese release date.  Yeah Peach was shown around no game, but that's the exception so far.  Of course a Link Between Worlds is scheduled for the same day as Mario 3D World so I wonder if Sakurai wanted to show Peach earlier so he can show Zelda around that time instead.

So yeah, the way things are looking it'll be a Pokemon veteran in two weeks for the release of X/Y, Sonic around the end of October, Zelda in November around the release of Link Between Worlds, and Diddy Kong in December with Tropical Freeze.

Grrr, still not cel-shaded! Oh well, at least he still looks better than he did in Brawl... and I guess he will be cel-shaded in the 3DS game. Or a style similar to it, as I'm not sure if what the 3DS game is doing is technically cel-shading.

So far the move set is exactly the same. 2/3 of his specials are the same and the tilt we've seen so far is exactly the same. There might be more differences later on, but don't count on Deku Leaves and Skull Hammers.

Luigi Dude, Peach was revealed on the day the VC Super Mario Bros was released, her debut game. Coincidence? I think not.
