TalkBack / RE:Memory Card 1019 On Shelves
« on: June 12, 2004, 11:07:05 AM »
Mouse Clicker, what Ian Sane is pointing out is the two marketing approaches that Nintendo has to choose from, this example being the memory card issue.

Nintendo decided to take the marketing approach by increasing the memory card size gradually as to increase revenue (therefore profits: ie. they make more money) through making customers by a new memory card each time one came out.  What Ian points out here is that in the long run Nintendo's marketing plan is hurting its sales because people will get discouraged by the initial tiny memory card.  Both marketing plans have their pros and cons.  And I'm sure that the costs to produce this newest card were not much different when the Cube came out (they are cheap electronic components for crying out loud!).  The price you see on a item like that is usually because of a nice big markup a company puts on an item so as to make money, and not the actual cost of the material to make the product.

TalkBack / RE:Capcom Announces Viewtiful Joe 2
« on: April 21, 2004, 09:35:42 PM »
This is very cool indeed.  The first game was quite ingenious with the VFX.

But the reason that the PS2 is getting Viewtiful Joe 2 is because the original didn't have as high a sales figure as Capcom would have liked.  And even if it did, Capcom recognises that this game could have good sales on the PS2.  So it comes down to money.  This reminds me of Time Splitters.  PS2 got the original, and the other systems got TS2.  I know it has to do with when the first one was released (ie. before the Cube and Box were out) but it made sense to make that move, and it makes sense for Capcom to do what they are doing now.

TalkBack / RE:Konami Shows off Limited Edition Metal Gear Bundle

Haha! Sweet! But no so sweet if you actually own the original Metal Gear for the Nintendo anyway, as is my case.  But I get it in cartridge format!  Which also isn't that great because unless you have a top loading NES, it takes forever to get the game to work on the regular NES when it gets old.  Still looks like a nice pacakge though, even if the sole logo on the GC is a bit cheap.  But at least it doesn't make it look cheezy and overdone, still stylish looking in all its platinum glory.

TalkBack / RE:EA Snags Timesplitters 3
« on: January 22, 2004, 04:42:11 PM »
It's interesting to note how a couple of companies had announced that they will not be publishing games on the GameCube anymore, and how now two companies that used to have their games published by the ones leaving the Cube have switched to publishers that still make games for the Cube.  Seems like the GC has gained enough market power to be important enough for those game developers to snuff the old publishers for the new one (which in this situation is EA).

Again I got freaked out that Time Splitters had moved to EA, but again I realised that EA will just be publishing the games and not making them (as I don't like what they did to the Bond franchise after Rare sold it to EA).  But this is really good news because I LOVE the TS franchise, and would have been very disappointed if TS3 was not published on the Cube.  And let's all hope for that good new Bond game that Free Radical might make!  We'll just have see what happens.

TalkBack / RE:Burnout 3 Coming from EA
« on: January 20, 2004, 06:35:56 PM »
Most excellent!    Burnout 2 turned out to be a really great game (so addictive in first person driving mode! It actually gives me a rush when I play it), more than I had expected it to.  I got kind of scared when I heard EA would be publishing the game, but then I realised they're just PUBLISHING it, and Criterion games is still making it.  Phew!  Let's hope Burnout 3 improves on things compared to Burnout 2 as much as there was a difference between Burnout 2 and the first Burnout (which was fun, but lacked so many gaming options and was much too easy to finish).
