TalkBack / RE: GameStop/EB to Hold Midnight Wii Launches Nation-wide
« on: November 17, 2006, 02:46:12 AM »
Good about time...I e-mailed their corporate address a week or 2 ago and they told me it was up to each store. I called my store on Tuesday and they said they were doing one when they had told me a couple weeks before they didn't know/didn't think they would be.

I'm all about getting my Wii 10 hours earlier than I normally would be. Works for me.

Did I see a Gold Golem in that video? It could be from Zelda but it looked waaaaaayyyy too DW/DQ-esque. Is this DQ Monsters, some other DQ title, or...?

As someone who has actually played the original, I can say without a doubt that it is the most difficult game I've played since the NES days...I can get to the first boss and that's it. I get royally owned. This isn't about pattern memorization, this is about sheer luck. It's near impossible to avoid getting hit when the boss takes up 90% of the screen and he has little buddies zooming all around too IIRC. Very frustrating game, just the way a shoot-em-up should be...heh...

TalkBack / RE: EDITORIALS: Controller Conundrum
« on: August 31, 2006, 05:30:10 AM »
I personally am planning to pick up the Wii version of ZTP, and not the GCN one. Why? Because it's pointless for me to buy 2 versions of a game which is 99.9% the same. And I'd rather spend the extra $50-60 on a another game like a Red Steel, or MP3, etc.

I think a lot of you are unfairly doubting Nintendo. Everyone doubted Nintendo when the DS was first announced and as its features were slowly revealed and Nintendo has destroyed everything in its path with the DS. Even the almighty Sony can't touch Nintendo in the portable market. Granted portables and consoles are somewhat different, but the core concept between DS and Wii is the same IMO. And that is why the Wii will continue where DS is now and prove to be a success for Nintendo and possibly take them back to the late SNES/early N64 days.

TalkBack / RE:Minnesota Video Game Law Overturned
« on: August 02, 2006, 07:33:52 AM »
For the 5 gazillionith time, the problem isn't kids or retailers but parents. Kids don't magically get money from a money tree or any other such nonsense. Kids under 16 don't have jobs with the exception of odd ones like lawn mowing. So how do said games get into the hands of kids? Misinformed parents/grandparents/misc. relatives. They either buy the game(s) for the kids or give them money to do so themselves. If they wouldn't do such things there would be no problem (in theory).

This proves why this law and all others like it have constantly been struck down. Because it's pointless.

Like someone else said video games are just the latest trend to be campaigned against by politicians. They think just because something is popular with kids and young adults (for the most part) and because it's something they don't understand that it is inherently evil and out to corrupt everyone. They did the same thing to rock and roll and other media forms and they will do it again to the next big thing after video games. Because they're ignorant and think they can get away with censoring anything and everything.

And furthermore, how would they prove a minor bought a game they weren't supposed to? Would they staff enforcement agents in every retail outlet that sells games in the entire country? That is highly unlikely. Surely a kid who is doing something "illegal," wouldn't report themselves for doing said thing. So it's left up to the parent(s) and/or the retailer(s) to report the "crime." Again, highly unlikely. It's not hard for a kid to hide a video game from his parents and retail clerks generally don't care about anything at work except getting paid and going home. The majority of them don't know the first thing about video games so they would be more than likely to pay little to no attention to a rating.

Did I seriously read what I thought I read?

A PGC reader sent in a question regarding FPSes on Wii and said:

Quote

"Nintendo has yet to make a first person shooter friendly controller..."

Umm, did they never play Nintendo 64? Goldeneye & Perfect Dark had excellent FPS controls. I believe it was the Solitaire style which utilized the C-Buttons of the N64 controller for movement and thus used the Analog Stick for "mouse-look"/aiming.

But PS2 only has 2 controller ports, well unless you shell out $20-30 for a multiplayer adapter.

Nintendo Gaming / WWE DOR2 Interview Comments
« on: August 29, 2005, 06:45:44 PM »
"PGC: The DoR games only allow for four wrestlers on-screen at once, compared to six in the PS2 games. Why couldn't you add the extra two superstars on the GameCube for a game mode like, say, the Royal Rumble, even if they would only be computer controlled?

MO'C: DOR2 really pushed the limits of the GameCube this year, both visually and in terms of game play. Adding two CPU-controlled Superstars was definitely a lower priority then the other key features we put in, as there are only a few match types that would have featured six Superstars anyway. "

Allow me to wade you through the BS, in other words THQ/Yukes is too lazy and too busy being Sony's little ***** to make the GCN games at LEAST comparable to their PS2 counterparts in terms of variety. Sure the gameplay is better and the CAW is better, but what good is that when you're missing 15-20 wrestlers that even LAST YEAR'S Smackdown game had? Not to mention the many more match types Smackdown games have. I have a PS2 as well, but even so this pisses me off to no end. I'm tired of multi-platform developers taking the easy way out and being lazy. Yukes/THQ has always said it's the "disc space that causes to leave out item X..." Gimme a break. Apparently they've never heard of issuing a game on multiple discs or compression. "But we don't want to compress the audio/video as that would lower it's quality." Hmm funny, No Mercy for N64's quality was just fine and it had LESS "space" than a GCN disc does. What a bunch of BS. Why can't they just do their job and not make things "exclusive." Sigh. Guess I'll be buying Smackdown again this year.

Even with backwards compatability, Nintendo needs Zelda and/or Mario ready for Rev launch. You'd be crazy if you think Nintendo isn't already planning the first Rev Zelda game. They might not have full staff on it yet, but I bet at least 1 person is working on it part time.

I'm pretty happy so far and I hope Nintendo keeps the momentum going through E3 in May. I also hope the DS announcements keep Sony in check.

TalkBack / RE: EDITORIAL: Choose Your Weapons
« on: February 27, 2005, 02:45:43 AM »
You said Nintendo needs to do somehting by the end of March (when the PSP launches), but why wait that long? Why not do something at the beginning of March? Yes, I'm talking about GDC. The 2nd week of March would be a perfect opportunity for Nintendo to come out firing all their guns at Sony.
I wish they compiled numbers on repeat buyers (i.e. people who buy the same system more than once). I guarantee you Nintendo would come out ahead in that department. I've only had my PS2 for 2 weeks and I've already knocked it over 3 or 4 times. The controller even fell from a height of maybe 2 feet and a piece of plastic by the L buttons chipped off, gimme a break. I don't think I've ever knocked my GCN over and I know I've dropped my GCN controllers from equal heights and never had anything chip off. If Nintendo could get a hold of those #s, they could heavily push that their products don't break and you won't have to spend extra money to replace them, ever. This would be a big selling point for stingy people and gamers I think anyways.

Nope, Arthur (PBS) is next lol.

Hey I used to have Popeye for NES back in the day. It was fun for it's time.

And why in the world is Namco making a Berenstein Bears game? Isn't that more along the lines of the generic publishers territory?

EA's Agenda for the Week of January 16th, 2005

Today: ESPN

Tomorrow: The World!

So what's next? EA buys Microsoft? Sony? Nintendo? Sega? Surely EA will get into hardware sooner or later.

Anyone think it's coincidental that Rare has sucked since leaving Nintendo? Gee I wonder why? Haha...their games were pretty darn good before my post is a train wreck got a hold of them and now look...only average at best. Poor Rare.

Rare needs to boast about it's games being out. Afterall how many have actually been released for X-Box so far? 2 or 3? It's beginning to look like Nintendo got the better end of the deal here, heh.

TalkBack / RE: EA Buys Five Years of Exclusive NFL Rights
« on: December 13, 2004, 05:35:16 PM »
So basically, all Sega really needs to do is just match EA's offer. Do this like the NFL teams do. The NFL is a restricted free agent, so Sega should match the offer and be able to keep their rights too, well you would think anyways. Knowing EA they will just throw more and more money at the NFL until Sega can't afford to match it.
And for the record, Johnny's (I think it was his) comment about the Microsoft/IE/Netscape situation, that is different. See, people are stupid in general. Just because IE comes with your computer does not mean you have to use it. Sure, you might have to use it once if it's a brand new computer and you don't have the install file for a different browser on another computer or storage medium, but you can then just go download another browser (like Mozilla Firefox, cough cough) and use it exclusively from then on. Why use my post is a train wreck's crap? It's bad enough we're forced to use Windows if we want decent compatability.
Just remember: Monpolies breed crappy products (Windows). Competition breeds better products. Granted, Madden has always blown 2K away . I used to be a fan of 2K until I played Madden 04. Madden has replay challenges and was easier to pick defenses too. NFL 2K3 (the last one I played) didn't have this, which is stupid. But then Sega pulled the 2K line from GCN (even though at the time it wasn't selling on ANY console). So oh well.

In other news, the grass is green and the sky is blue.

Seriously though....if Gates likes buying stuff so much, why doesn't he just buy cars or homes or something? Heck he can always send me money, I don't mind taking it off his hands.
