Well, it is working now. I wish I knew why! I did a hard reset to factory settings (using the button on the back of the router) as opposed to doing it via the browser-based tool. I got it to connection test ok after that, but I got a 32004 error when it tried to download the update. I changed the router's channel from 1 to 11 and then it worked. Weird.

Yeh, there are tons of messages like this all over forums.nintendo.com. However, there are at least 4 different versions of the BEFW11S4. Mine is a v2 and I'm wondering if anyone else is able to successfully connect. I'm able to connect with my DS and various laptops. I've never had trouble connecting anything to this router before. Also, I'm an IT professional and fairly familiar with these things so I've tried EVERYTHING I could think of and everything suggested here on the forums

I tried:
- Changing the router channels
- I'm already on the latest firmware (v 1.45.10 for my router)
- Reset the router to factory settings
- Powered off the router
- Set up the Wii manually with all of the correct settings for IP, subnet, gateway, dns, etc.

I think one of the root problems here is that the error messages tell us nothing and they do not differentiate between the individual messages on the support site. It gives broad suggestions for ranges of error codes. Grrrrr!

I've seen my Wii get an IP address--it shows up in the DHCP table, but I cannot get past those errors (51330, 51331, 52130, 52230)! This all happpened last night so I'm HOPING that something on Nintendo's side was down. However, it would be nice to know if I am getting to the internet but not connecting to the server or if I am never getting to the internet. I think I got to the internet at least once because the 52230 specifically said I was unable to connect to the server, whereas the other errors mentioned not being able to connect to the internet. However, there was no rhyme or reason why it would've worked THAT time and no other times.

So my ultimate questions are:
1) Is anyone connecting using a BEFW11S4 v2 (this is printed on the bottom of the router) with firmware version 1.45.10?
2) If so, did you have to do anything special?\
3) Can anyone decode any of the error messages above?

THANKS!

Nintendo Gaming / Wii Controller gloves...worth it?
« on: November 20, 2006, 05:58:23 AM »
Ok...I've got a Wii...but I can't play it until Christmas since it is technically the kids' Christmas present.  I do have a question though: are the protector/cover/glove thingies for the Wiimote worth it?  Do they improve grip at all?  Do they detract from the Wiimote's feel?

I'm trying to decide whether or not to get some to have at Christmas.  The main thing is that they would differentiate the Wiimotes based on color...but I don't want to sacrifice the way they feel.

Any opinions yet?

TalkBack / RE: EB Games Wii Pre-Orders - Extremely Limited Quantities?

"The reason is simple, Wal-Mart operates at most one store per town while Gamestop sometimes has 2-3 per city. "

Huh?  There are *THREE* Wal-Marts in my town of 100,000 people.  All are within 10 minute drives of each other.

GOOD *GOD* EBGAMES SUCKS!

Ok, I've got that off of my chest.  I've had bad experiences with the Waco TX store before, but I decided to give them another chance.  I got there about 5-10 minutes before the store opened.  There were only 7-8 people there waiting.  I got in line and stood patiently.  When I got up to the front they asked if I had my coupon.  I'm thinking: WTF?  It turns out that a guy from the store had handed out these little homemade coupons about 2 hours before the store opened to everyone hanging out outside.  He had 1 coupon per pre-order.  So those of us that showed up at the time the store opened to stand in line were out of luck.  The people that got coupons could come back and actually complete the preorder whenever they wanted to.

Here's the problem I have with this:
1) I called EBGames' corporate office and this is NOT their policy and they were unaware of this.
2) It was in no way advertised that we needed to come early to get a coupon.  It was almost as if the jerks working there told all their buddies and other Ebay hounds.  I'm not going to speculate beyond that, but it just seemed suspicious.
3) And it REALLY pisses me off that I ended up standing in line for 30 minutes before the jerk asked about a coupon.  You'd think he would've told people standing in line about it.
4) I had called EBGames every week for a month and talked to them YESTERDAY and was never told about the coupons.

I was promised a call back from the district manager.  Corporate was not happy to hear about these goings on and told me they would check into it.  I'll get back on and post a follow-up whenever I hear something.

Nevertheless, I will *NOT* be going back to EBGames.  They have done nothing but piss me off.

What the last guy said.  The controls were horrible!  I had NEVER had a BAD Mario sports experience (I have every one for the GameCube) until this one.  I'm going to have to put it on Ebay.  I was sooooo looking forward to it, but the controls are horrible, single player is boring and the multiplayer (the real reason I got it) SUCKS since it doesn't include an actual game of basketball.  This was very misleading IMHO.  When it says it support multiplayer I expect to have some decent functionality with one cartridge.  The whole reason for getting it was to play against my son.  I should've waited for the reviews and not assumed what was included with the single cartridge multiplayer.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Recommended SD Card size for Wii?

"if Nintendo expects you to be sharing SD cards with your camera (as they do have a photo channel), then it would make sense for them to use files on a FAT filesystem (which is how flash cards usually come formatted anyway)."

YEP!  I thought of that after I posted.  Very good point.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Recommended SD Card size for Wii?
« on: September 18, 2006, 08:55:46 AM »
"My personal plan is to buy either a 128MB SD card or 256MB SD card (depending on price) and putting all game saves and virtual console downloads onto that SD card. (Then I can take my virtual console on the go.) The Wii memory will only be used for the Wii24Connect information."

I think that they will be tied to YOUR account on YOUR Wii.  That is my understanding.

Also, for all we know the Wii will use a different file system not compatible with PCs.  I mean...this might keep people from doing hacks/homebrew that Nintendo doesn't want to happen.  THAT makes sense to me.  So...I'm not counting on the fact that I can back them up on my hard drive.

Nintendo Gaming / Recommended SD Card size for Wii?
« on: September 18, 2006, 07:09:34 AM »
I haven't seen this covered anywhere, so I'm curious what everyone thinks.  I know that the Wii will have 512MB internally but I'm wondering how quickly this might fill up and how big of an SD card I should get.

I've got an extra 512MB laying around.  But, I could get a 1GB from Newegg for ~$18.  One thing that concerns me is that there is only 1 SD slot.  If I fill up my internal memory and my SD card, how would I go about copying information onto a new (bigger) SD Card?!  could I do it from my PC?  That is one reason I'm thinking it might be wise to start with as large of an SD card as possible.  I'm sure Nintendo has thought of this, but I don't see how copying from card to card will work.

Does anyone have any insight into this?

Thanks!
David Taylor

Wil it support multiplayer?  I'm assuming so.  It'd be great if it would support the WFC.

Nintendo Gaming / Mario Kart question if I get a second DS
« on: June 14, 2006, 04:31:58 AM »
I've searched all over for an answer and cannot find one.  I have a DS Lite with Mario Kart.   When I went online for the first time, it said something about my copy of MK being tied to my DS.   Now my son has some birthday money and wants to buy his own DS.  That's great, b/c we can play against each other w/o buying a 2nd MK cartridge.  However, what if he wants to borrow my MK cartridge and play it on his DS?  If it is "tied" to my DS, what happens when he goes online (or tried to go online)?  Has anyone had first-hand experience with this?  I cannot find anything in the manual or any online FAQs and a Google seach has (thus far) turned up nothing.

Nintendo Gaming / Best DS Lite case?
« on: June 13, 2006, 04:42:56 AM »
I'm wanting to get something to protect my new DS Lite.   Does anyone have a case they would recommend?  I probably want a padded soft case as opposed to an aluminum min-briefcase style case.   I was looking around ebay and found this:

Case from ebay

Any other suggestions?  Anyone found a good case locally at a chain store (i.e. Circuit City, Best Buy, EBGames, Wal-Mart, etc.)?  I'm flying out of town Thursday and would love to buy one locally if I could.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Official DS Lite Thread!
« on: June 13, 2006, 04:38:35 AM »
I have a friend who has a dead pixel.  I flipped mine on yesterday before I got out of the store's parking lot just to make sure.  I love it.  I never had a DS, so I don't have anything to directly compare it to.

BTW, is it just me or does EBGames go out of its way to alienate customers?   I went there to buy one and they wouldn't honor the BB/CC free Brain Age deal.  I want to buy from the little guy, but I wanted this game.  $20 is $20.  Also, they had Mario Kart but had lost the box and wouldn't sell it to me.  I have credit I can't use.  :-(   Grrrrr.  Ok, I'm done bashing EB for today.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Free Brain Age with DS Lite!
« on: June 13, 2006, 04:32:45 AM »
I had a DS Lite reserved at EB Games.  I called to ask if they would honor the deal that CC and BB were giving.  Of course they said "no".  So I bought it at Best Buy.

Mini-rant: I called ahead to EB to make sure they had Mario Kart and SMB for the DS new in stock.  When I get there they couldn't find the box for Mario Kart and wouldn't sell it to me.  I wanted to use my credits so then they said I could get it at Game Stop across town.  They tried to give me cash, but couldn't figure out how.  Then they put it on a gift card, but then they realized that Game Stop couldn't take the card.  Grrrrr.  I really try to give the "little guy" the business but when they won't honor competitor's promotions and generally make hassles for me by not being customer-focused, it rubs me the wrong way.  :-(

Where is the actual Podcast/RSS XML?  Or do you just have the audio files for download?  I'd like to actually subscribe instead of just downloading the audio periodically.

Ugh.  The main problem is its confusing pronunciation.  Its like that stupid VW SUV.  Toureg.  If you have to have a whole marketing campaign to explain our to pronounce something, you MIGHT should've considered a simpler name.  :-(

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Mario Baseball sightings?
« on: August 31, 2005, 12:39:39 PM »
I went by the Best Buy in Waco, TX today and picked up my copy.  It wasn't on shelves yet, but I asked around and got them to produce a copy. Know what else I found out?  I commented on the fact that GameCube software space was decreased at their store and the guy in the video game deparment said that BB was going to quit carrying GameCube hardware soon.  Of course, this may mean around the time Revolution comes out, which makes sense.  But the way he said it, it sounded like in the next few months.

I'll be swinging by Best Buy today to see if it is in (keeps fingers crossed).  I really hate Best Buy any more.  But I've got $40 in coupons that I need to use in the next month.  They wouldn't let me use the coupons towards a Zelda preorder, so this is it.  :-(

Nintendo Gaming / Mario Baseball sightings?
« on: August 29, 2005, 05:52:07 AM »
The official release date is today (August 29), but the ads for Best Buy and Circuit city both said "in stores Wednesday".  What gives?  Was the release delayed or are these stores just late getting their games?  I know I've purchased games at BB on a release date before.

I'd go to a game store, but I've got $40 in Reward Zone coupons to redeem!  So has anyone sighted Mario Baseball at a Best Buy today?

Nintendo Gaming / Need help choosing: Sphinx, PoP, or Hobbit?
« on: November 26, 2003, 04:13:12 AM »
I always get gift certificates for Christmas, and think I'll probably get at least one new game.  Three that I am considering are:

Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy
Prince of Persia: Sands of Time
The Hobbit

I'm looking for advice from people that have played these games as to which is the best game.  I know it is all about personal taste.  I loved Zelda: The Wind Waker if that gives you any insight into my tastes.

Thanks in advance!

I'm curious about this game too.  I've seen a review that compares it to a Zelda-style game.  Is it anywhere close to being as good as a Zelda game?

I have a 7-year-old daughter and a 4-year-old son.  Some of our favorites are:

Super Smash Bros. (we all enjoy this one)
Mario Golf (my daughter really likes it; my son plays but doesn't really do that well)
Soul Caliber II (may be a little old for them, but they both enjoy it;  I just don't let them play certain scary/suggestive characters)
Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (they both like playing it, although parts of it are too hard for them; we've really enjoyed sitting there with me playing and them giving me suggestions; I didn't play without them, so it took me 5-6 months to finish it)
