Topic: Triton Labs Announces Stealth Link

The creators of the Afterburner have revealed their next big project.

With the release of the GBA SP, the Afterburner internal light has become somewhat obsolete.  Triton Labs has dropped its price to only $25, but you still have to install it yourself or pay someone to do it for you.

We reported earlier this year that Triton Labs would be announcing new, non-light peripherals to follow up on their highly successful Afterburner release.  Now Adam Curtis, founder of Triton Labs, has reported on the company's forums that the Stealth Link is their next big product.

The Stealth Link is a wireless alternative to GBA link cables.  The idea is that you can play multiplayer on GBA without being tied down by link cables...and you can even play through walls and from reasonably far away.  There is currently little information as to what the Stealth Link will look like or how it will be implemented, but you can check our hardware profile for all the info we have.  The Stealth Link is expected to debut in Q3 2003, and Triton Labs plans to sell it in retail stores throughout the United States, not just through their website as with the Afterburner.

I'm actually surprised that it taking anybody this long to come out with such a product.  Triton Labs, Nintendo, or whoever...

Ever since the Wavebird came out, I figured it be pretty easy to just slap a transceiver onto the GBA com port, shouldn't require any smarts by the device.

Glad to see someone's taking a crack at it.

What's unfortunate, is that the wavebird receiver couldn't be used.  It would have been cool if you could use the same receiver for wavebird and GBA/SP.

Wasn't there a rumor that Nintendo was developing another Wavebird?  If they were, it could be bi-directional and thus maybe they could actually do something like that.

One could say wireless gaming isn't too feasible, but the Wave Bird seems to slap that idea silly. XBoX wireless controllers are 3rd party and cost nearly 80 dollars or so, and you can't use the port with Xbox Live because it takes up that spot. There was a 35 dollar one too, but its cheaply made.

PS2 I believe has no wireless controllers aside from something from Logitech, correct me if I'm wrong.

As far as the rumor of another wavebird is concerned, Nintendo mad a deal to from some company (Matsushia I believe) to use their 2.4 Ghz chips (rumble perhaps?) (Check the news archives) So who knows??

Wireless GBA?  Like you said, 'bout time, all it needs to be is decently priced, OR  heavly Advertised of its strengths outweigh the price. Since I got a Wavebird, I really never looked back, so just picture Wireless GBA!

I think it would be interesting that if this was popular enough they could create amazing addons for example, instead of using the GBA to GC cable you could have a wireless one that would use the wireless stealth link. Also another possibility which would be a dream come true and generate some nice income for Triton Labs is wireless internet multiplayer abilities for GBA! Make a bluetooth base which you connect to your PC via USB and then make a program like Gamespy Arcade for it and then you've got wireless, internet based multiplayer gameage! Although this is just me rambling.

I really wish that some company would come out with a wireless gaming device, so they can be wireless like the n-gage.

Hmm, wireless GBA playing would be nice.  I might buy it if the merchandise wouldn't be prohibitively expensive!

Simply amazing product from Triton Labs.  I still am using the Afterburner.  Don't have an SP yet but soon.  I'm definitely getting 2 of these.  You're right as the price is high but I think it's well worth it for wireless.  I just wonder if Nintendo will come out with their own.  Remember with the Afterburner, Nintendo came out with the SP, so who knows with this product.  But I've got to give it up to Triton Labs for doing it first.

Personally I would like to see an internet connection for the GBA.  It would make trading Pokemon SO much easier.    Can you imagine trading Pokemon over IRC?    Hell, even a telephone connection would be good.

Would be nice if Nintendo made a cordless link cable from the Cube to GBA since they are pushing connectivity so much. It would make games like the new Pac-Man easier to swap controllers, and wouldn't keep having to sit up on the edge of the couch to read the GBA screen since the cord won't reach.
