See "MS lowers June shipment forecast" and the fact that they still haven't sold 10 million.

Yes there are a very small number of dvds like that, I think Bloodrayne is one of them, but then again, nobody cares about Bloodrayne.

Off topic but shame on people that still use "full screen" dvds. The problem is that they use incorrect wording for dvds, Widescreen dvds should be called OAR (original aspect ratio) meaning the way it was shot, so in a way those are the real full screen. Films use different ratios than tvs (mostly 2 different ones).

Full screen dvds = Pan & Scan/cropped into 4x3
Widescreen dvds = Original Aspect Ratio (the way the movie was shot)

Pan & Scan dvds dont really look better because what you are getting in screen size you lose on the formatting and alteration of the picture. I hate full screen dvds, those things shouldn't exist anymore. But a big part of the problem with this lies with movie and consumer electronics industry doing a real sh*tty job in explaining to people the difference between widescreen and full screen. There will always be people that want their screen filled even if it degrades the picture, so all dvd players should have a zoom function that automatically fills the screen (be it 4x3 or 16x9). That would have been better than having 2 separate releases for movies.

Videogames are a different situation since there is no true aspect ratio, so they should have both, but RE4 was a decision made on the gameplay style, I think they thought it was better this way so your peripheral view wasn't as limited.

I doubt that Capcom upped the graphics but the game will look better to a lot of people for a different reason. By being 16:9 instead of letterboxed you will be getting an extra 100+ lines of resolution that were being wasted on the black bars before. So if you have a widescreen tv (or a SDTV with vertical compression aka 16:9 mode) the game will look a little cleaner and more detailed because it will actually have a slightly higher resolution than the GC version.

#7 (Wii) was a "What-If?" - They didn't say the Wii is a failure. They didn't even suggest it. All they said was that it's too early in the to really know for sure what the future holds for Nintendo's latest console. It did say that the Wii needs a good 2 years before we'll have a clear picture of where it's heading, especially with Nintendo's past history with 3rd party support on their last few consoles.

I also fully agree with them about graphics for the next generation of consoles. Nintendo better be able to match the offerings from Sony and Microsoft otherwise people might not be as receptive the next Wii as they were this time around, since the uniqueness of the current system would no longer be able to make up for it's other limitations when compared to the competition.

Please, you don't need 2 years of all the consoles being out to be able to predict who's gonna be on top. Those trends form very quickly and have a snowball effect. Right now the most likely to sell more is the Wii, the PS3 is sleeping with the fishes and the 360 likely second. Waiting 2 years to make a prediction on this is like waiting for the championship team to hold their parade before predicting who's going to be the champion.

As for the graphics; by match do you mean they have to have the same power as the XBX 3 and PS4? If that means $400 consoles as the starting point then no they don't. All they would have to do is match 360 and PS3 if Sony and MS keep doing the high price point thing. And I seriously doubt either of them goes over $400, this generation is teaching Sony that.

I think a lot of gamers are missing a big point. When we talk about "better technology", we always talk about graphics. But to the general population, the Wii has the superior tech, because to most people having virtual hands, bats, tennis rackets, swords, etc; is more impressive than the graphical jump between RE4 and Gears of War.

It's not RE4 - 2, not even close, its a Dead Aim/Gun Survivor type game. All of the RE spin-offs game have been average AT BEST, usually they just flat-out suck. Code Veronica is not a spin-off since it plays just like the other RE games and it's part of the main storyline.

It's funny that you seem to know exactly how it plays with only a few sentences of info, how do you know it'sll be a Dead aim/Survivor game with such little information?

Think about it, the difference between this game and other RE spinoffs is that this one actually tells the main story of the RE seres (just as code veronica did like You yourself said) while the other ones were just sidestories that don't add anything to the overall plot.  UC is suppose to fill in a bunch of gaps that were left in the story from RE 0-4 and if such a big part of the overall story will be told that way, I don't think Capcom is going to half ass this.

Here's a riddle for ya: What's th difference between Umbrella Cronicles and all other RE spinoffs?

Wesker.

Because we all know Code Veronica is on rails...

It's on bleeping rails, its nothing like RE 4, so unless its all one big mis-translation/misunderstanding (like this is just a Mercenaries type side-quest and the real game is RE4 style), this game won't be able to carry RE4s jock. There is a long track record for RE spin-offs and that track record is they suck.

Last time I heard, Treasure Island Z is Inafune's game but it was said by the Capcom employee that writes in their forums so it could be he got things mixed up.

Here's the 1up spin:

Quote

Those figures courtesy of Enterbrain, parent company of Famitsu magazine. Wii (which went on sale in Japan on December 2) has sold about 1.95 million units. The PS3, in contrast, has only sold 812,000 units, despite having been on sale since November 11. These figures, while somewhat sour, may still prove a comfort to Sony, since they represent a narrowing of the previously reported "4-Wiis to every PS3" margin which was being reported out of Japan in February.

That's because the nearly 4:1 Wii to PS3 ratio was in relation to WEEKLY sales, while here they are talking about total sales and the PS3 launched a month before the Wii in Japan. But hey 1up were the ones that made that ridiculous Feb NPD spin article.

Man this really fuc**** sucks. Now its almost like Shiggy's comments were inspired by him learning this. We are getting, at best, a second rate RE game while the 360 and PS3 get the real game.

So Capcom support is RE4 port (which now loses it's luster since it was like they were prepping us for RE:UC, except now its a better game), some RE gun survivor spin-off crap and Treasure Island Z, while they get Inafune to make new IPs built from the ground up for the 360.

The stage is now set for them to make the "M rater games don't sell on Wii" when Mario Galaxy rightfully blows UC sales out of the water by like 20:1.

The big difference now from last gen is that their excuses for GC games not selling and then stop making games for the GC is that back then it didn't hurt their bottom line since the PS2 had a much larger install base. Now the Wii will be the one on top (will pass 360 this year) and be the top dog, so if they don't start giving their best effort and keep half-assing it, they (and other 3rd parties) will be the ones that get screwed in their bottom line.

The worst thing is if gamers decide to be prudent and take a wait and see approach, or if they decide that its not worth playing a port or remake, then all the third parties start complaining about not selling on nintendo consoles, and instead of blaming themselves for not putting the effort into making the game, they blames the wii owners for only wanting nintendo produced games and stuff. Capcom need to put their money where their mouth is and come up with more than that really......

I'm starting to get worried, I remember the wii was supposed to be 2-3 times more powerful than the gamecube, Find it weird that I'm still playing games that look technically less advanced than the gamecube. Nintendo has to show these third parties how its done I think.

This is a legit concern, but the way the Wii is selling it will pass the Xbox 360 in total sales this year so they won't have a choice but to support the Wii strongly.

Look at it this way, if Sony lowers the price of the PS3 by $100 every year, it will take until the 2009 holiday season for it to be the same price as the PS2 when it launched: $300. By then it will be far too late.

That's still more than the Wii's launch price, what will the Wii and the X360 cost at that point? The PS3 is no threat to the Wii. Hell have you seen the PS3 release schedule in Japan? It's N64 like.

You know what would be really cool? If you could use the chainsaw now. Also a lil graphic boost would be nice; not that it matters much since the GC RE4 puts 3rd party Wii games to shame in that department.

For $29.99

If true, it should have the PS2 extras plus 16:9.

If an Xbox 360 was priced at $300.00 I wonder what that would do to the market.  The Price of the Wii would need to be dropped, perhaps to $199.99  And the PS3 would be left looking very expensive.

But I don't believe in any way shape or form that the current Premium Package would go for the price of the Core any time soon.

The Wii is still selling out = no need to drop the price.

1up now doing the spinning for Sony for the Feb NPD #s

Come watch as journalistic integrity goes down the drain, with comments like:

Quote

With suffocating supply constraints during the November launch period, Sony's PlayStation 3 still outsold the Xbox 360 during the same four-month launch window with 1.06M consoles sold through February 2007.

If by suffocating you mean suffocating retailer's inventories because they were just there collecting dust, then yeah I agree.

Quote

Briefly ignoring just how supply constrained the 360 was during that four month period, the fact that the PlayStation 3 has outsold the Xbox 360 over the same period in its life span despite costing $200 more per unit isn't a something that should get lost amidst the cries of doom and gloom for Sony's platform. How much more would the Xbox 360 have sold had supply not been so constrained in the first four months after launch?

Now if I remember correctly, the 360 REALLY was supply constraint as even with those low sale #s you couldn't find it in stores; as opposed to the PS3 which anybody can walk in and buy. The PS3 isn't supply constrained and hasn't been since around a month after launch, the PS3 just isn't selling.

21
Whats the price of the 60GB PS3 in Japan? I know it's cheaper than here, but by how much exactly?

Things aren't going to change for Sony this year because of the price Spak-Spang. They are going to be the most expensive console going up against Mario Galaxy, Metroid, Smash Bros. (err... maybe not), Halo 3 and the other MS exclusives. Oh and GTA 4 is on 360 at the same time. The only big game they have a chance to come out is MGS 4, alongside Ratcher & Clank. They are effed in the A on Saturday. And oh yeah, $599.

Prof. 666 has a very good point. I can't imagine how Square-Enix must be feeling looking at the PS3s sales. The budget for that game must be huge.

22
Spak-Spang: the chances that the PS3 comes in 1st place in sales are none and none. They are losing exclusives left and right and are saddled by the absurd price. MGS 4 being ported to 360 is almost a foregone conclusion and FF 13 won't come out till next year; and as Ocarina of Time proved, not one game can turn the tide, no matter how good it is. Oh and that was for $200 system.

These things have a domino effect, once one console gets too far behind or one gets far ahead, you can't turn the tide because developers will start going more and more to that console. Developers aren't going to sit around waiting for Sony to do a massive price cut (I'm talking a $200 cut) or for FF to turn it around, which it won't anyway.

The Wii is still selling out in what will probably be its weakest game lineup in it's generation, filled with PS2 ports. By next year you will see much better 3rd party games/support.

And oh yeah, the PS3 costs $600 **************** dollars. It always bears repeating because there are still people that don't quite grasp how much that matters.

23
NeoGaf

Emotion Engine gone

Ace Combat 6

While I don't know the reliability of the site where the EE story originated, it's pretty safe to assume that if they took out of the European one to save costs that they would take out all of them.

24
So DMC 4 going multi, Ace Combat 6 on X360 and Emotion Engine out of US and Japanese PS3s all confirmed today. The tag line of God of War 2 is prophetic.

25
BlackNmild was being sarcastic.

That whole notion that the Wii will keep widening the gap the PS3 for 2 years, then the PS3 will start outselling is retarded. By that time the Wii would have long won since 3rd parties would have jumped ship. Its basically a domino effect and if Sony doesn't turn it around this year (which they won't because of the price) then they are screwed.
