Vivendi serves up another film tie-in...VIVENDI UNIVERSAL GAMES ANNOUNCES DEVELOPMENT OF MULTI-PLATFORM GAME BASED ON TWENTIETH CENTURY FOX'S UPCOMING ANIMATED FEATURE FILM EVENT ROBOTS
Scheduled for release in first quarter 2005, Robots will feature movie asset integration to create an authentic interactive Robots world
LOS ANGELES (June 23, 2004) - Vivendi Universal Games today announced that Robots is currently in development by Eurocom Entertainment Software (console and PC) and Griptonite Games (Game Boy® Advance) for a first quarter 2005 launch to coincide with the theatrical release of the Robots film. The Robots game will be on the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system, the Xbox® video game system from Microsoft, Nintendo GameCubeTM, Game Boy® Advance video game system and PC. Based upon Twentieth Century Fox's CG animated feature film releasing on March 11, 2005 - created by Twentieth Century Fox and directed by Academy Award®-winner Chris Wedge (both of Ice Age fame) - the game will place players in the role of the film's hero Rodney Copperbottom, as he sets off on thrilling adventures through the living worlds of the Robots movie.
The Robots game will incorporate movie assets - including character, graphic and animation assets - to produce a distinctive impression of playing in the film's universe. The Robots' world is about to be taken over by an evil tyrant and it is up to the player to save his fellow robots from a tragic destiny! Players will hop on a train to a mechanical metropolis of moving gears and winding parts, meet an unforgettable cast of characters and battle evil machines - discovering the many ways a robot can turn his parts into cool and unique gadgets.
"We are thrilled to partner again with the talented team at Twentieth Century Fox to extend what is sure to be a blockbuster movie event into a highly interactive and vibrant game experience for Robots fans of all ages," said Philip O'Neil, President, Vivendi Universal Games. "The collaboration will result in an exciting and graphically brilliant game that integrates the best elements of this CGI-animated feature with 3D action/adventure gameplay."
"Our Robots partnership with VUG has been a collaborative effort from the start and we look forward to their continued commitment in creating a new standard for film licensed games," stated Peter Byrne, EVP, Twentieth Century Fox Licensing and Merchandising. "They have truly captured the world of Robots and this game is as visually stunning as the movie itself. It is sure to top the best-seller lists come March 2005 and beyond."
