Retro Studios to Reveal Something Soon

This will most likely be the game they have been working on since Metroid Prime 3 wrapped up in 2007. It is unknown what it is, but there has been a rumor that it could be a new Legend of Zelda game.

Below is the Twitter post in its full entirety:

"We think you guys will be pleasantly surprised in just a few hours :)"

EDIT: This appears to have been a hoax.

Talkback

retro doing a zelda game :o

NinGurl69 *hugglesJune 01, 2009

no way, SK making Zelda.

vuduJune 01, 2009

Why is this a blog entry and not a news post?

Ian SaneJune 01, 2009

My heart skipped a beat.  Like I seriously had a similar reaction to seeing this on the front page as I have had when falling in love.  That's kinda fucked up.

But it just goes to show that Retro is where it's at for me with Nintendo.  They're the devs I have the most faith in.  I'm very excited about all this.  Just the existence of this makes this E3 better than last year's.

What news? It doesn't even say they are working on a game. Maybe Retro Studios will tell us something like Metroid Prime Trilogy will have multiplayer, or that the head of Retro is gonna have a baby.

NinGurl69 *hugglesJune 01, 2009

Retro is making Metal Gear for DSi

vuduJune 01, 2009

NEWS:  Retro Studios teases via Twitter.  "We think you guys will be pleasantly surprised in just a few hours :)"  blah blah blah

Point is, it's more news than it is a blog.  Dear diary, today I woke up and ate cereal.  I like Nintendo games.  I hope I get asked to the upcoming dance.

NWR_pap64Pedro Hernandez, Contributing WriterJune 01, 2009

Retro is making Wii Sports for the hardkoar audience.

Believe...

Don't kid yourself, you'll be disappointed no matter what is revealed.

Also in regards to Retro making Zelda, IGN stated that they may have been making it (which really isn't that far fetched considering NIntendo has let 3rd parties develop Zelda games) but it was taken back by Nintendo. Hopefully while they had it they were able to create a unique battle system with Wiimotion plus.

TJ SpykeJune 01, 2009

IGN also said that Factor 5 was making Kid Icarus and/or Pilotwings, which is obviously BS as they would still exist if Nintendo was funding that.

Spak-SpangJune 01, 2009

Would I trust Zelda to Retro?

Yes I would, but its still a crazy question.  Personally after Metroid I would give Retro almost complete free reign and pick of any franchise.  If you were Retro would you choose Zelda?  Personally, I wouldn't.  I would rather have the chance to re-invent a franchise like Kid Ikaris or something like that.

But, at the same time an American developed Zelda has me excited because I think it would make many of the advances Zelda needs to make to be fresh again.

WHEN WILL THEN BE NOW??

As did other sources (and chances are it was but only in beta form that we were going to pitch to Nintendo) it happens ALL THE FREAKEN TIME where games are dropped and are not picked up by anyone. Besides that artwork had Factor 5's fingers all over with with Man Icarus.  But I'm not going to go any further with this childish IGN bashing, and I pity those that think they actually lied about it, because you do realize that as much as you may hate Matt or Mark they have pretty strong connections in the industry.

ANYWAY, whatever Retro is working on now I am automatically interested in!

KDR_11kJune 01, 2009

I doubt it'll be Zelda or Mario or something, I hope it's their own IP and not some stupid forced sequel to an ancient game that gets nothing but baggage from the IP.

Connections or not, a journalist has something to gain from lying, namely site traffic.

Anyway, the result of this announcement won't reach me until tomorrow afternoon (that's early morning in PDT...) anyway.

BlackNMild2k1June 01, 2009

Raven Blade.

BranDonk KongJune 01, 2009

They've been asleep for a week and they're going to reveal...Metroid Prime Trilogy!

Retro twittered, "Just A Little Bit More" about 15 minutes ago.

CaterkillerMatthew Osborne, Contributing WriterJune 01, 2009

Raven Blade... man! I wan't them to make the next Kid Icarus, but what ever they are doing, i'm sure most of us will eat it up.

When they say pleasantly surprised it gives me the impression that it is an existing franchise. I don't know, its just the way its stated.

kraken613June 01, 2009

I think retro's Twitter might have crashed, or taken down. It says for me invaded URL when I was able to see it 5 minutes ago.

BlackNMild2k1June 01, 2009

Did anyone ever confirm that the Retro Twitter was even a Retro twitter?

So this account could be some random dude that created the account to build up hype for something that may not happen.

BlackNMild2k1June 01, 2009

well it was just started prior to E3. It could be anybody.
I'm hoping Retro is too busy to have time to twitter.

BlackNMild2k1June 02, 2009

I wasn't fooled at all.

...And that was why this was a blog and not news.

NWR_pap64Pedro Hernandez, Contributing WriterJune 02, 2009

Good thing I had my anti hype shield up the whole time.

Ian SaneJune 02, 2009

Dang.  I was actually legitimately quite excited.  Well now if Retro doesn't show anything tomorrow at the Nintendo conference I'm going to be disappointed.  That sucks.  Not their fault obviously but I got my hopes up now.  A new project from Retro at this point in time just makes tons of sense.  To just have the Metroid Prime Port Collection would be pretty lame.  They have to have been working on SOMETHING else, right?

Thankfully we'll find out tomorrow.  At least this isn't fake news like TEH MEGATON where you wait for months for nothing.

NinGurl69 *hugglesJune 02, 2009

But the Megaton was real and not a hoax.

This is completely fabricated.

KDR_11kJune 03, 2009

At least now you can share my disappointment about your most wanted game not appearing on the show.

StratosJune 03, 2009

The shows not over yet, KDR, remember Brawl was shown later in the show. There's still time.

That's bold statement.
Just because High Voltage couldn't use it doesn't mean it won't work for any shooter game.

DAaaMan64June 06, 2009

The usefulness for shooters and Motion+ would be to retain the reticles position even when you are pointing of screen. It would make for a significantely nicer seamless experience.

Hmmm I don't think it will enhance pure shooters, but only FPShooter/FPSlasher like Red Steel 2 which has a big emphasis on combining both ranged and melee weapons and switching through both styles seemlessly. The only way your situation would work is if you're not pointing at the screen or if you're covering the Wii Remote's IR camera, but really what's the point? The IR camera is very sensitive and it doesn't need anything else to supplement it.

Heck, even Metroid: Other M won't support Wii MotionPlus.

I disagree, if the reticle gets off screen it can be somewhat dissorienting. Especially visual. In an FPS it could also keep you in control if you were in what felt like an infinite spin. Though I personally have no problems with FPS' on Wii, when I first started out, most def.

KDR_11kJune 07, 2009

I also don't think WMP is useful for straight FPSes. What confuses me though is why FPSes on the Wii insist on mappng reload to a button or Nunchuk shake when the Wiimote movement worked perfectly in Onslaught. It just feels way more natural to move your "gun" to reload.

I'm guessing that they wanted to incorporate some kind of melee hit with the gun and map it to motion controls, personally I don't mind if reloading is either a motion or a button press.

DAaaMan64June 07, 2009

I love reload as a shake of anything, its better as waggle, just feels good. :P

StogiJune 08, 2009

WM+ could finally let you shoot off screen which is something I've been wanting for a long time now! seriously, as requiem I wrote about that all the time

For instance, I've always wanted to be able to blindly shoot behind me or even shoot off to the side while I drive a vehicle.

And what about the possibility of two WM+ wiimotes? You guys are really small minded if you can't think of anything WM+ could help with in the FPS genre.

Actually, Requiem's last post was on July 18, 2007.  Kashogi Y. Stogi was created the following day.  You stand corrected.  ;)

For those of you keeping track at home, Stogi's original user name was Don'tHate742.  Also, he still has a quote from me in his sig.  ;D

To be honest, I didn't pay attention to those aliases AT ALL.  Changing things in day doesn't make it prominent, it's like an avatar-personality reboot to the rest of the forum.
