Mr. Handheld, Meet Mr. Console

by the NWR Staff - May 13, 2001, 9:21 pm EDT

Nintendo’s future lies in connecting the GBA & NGC for the first time uniting a handheld and a console from the start. In a PGC special, Ed Shih examines what we've seen in connectivity & how that should all change with Nintendo.

GBA-GCN connectivity has been one of the special features of the GameCube. Nintendo hasn't said too much about how it plans to use this feature but popular speculation has been to adapt current techniques of connectivity (e.g. GBC to N64 via the Transfer Pak, Sega's VMU, and Sony's Pocket Station). These ideas, however, are just the beginning. In Part 1 of the Planet Special, Ed Shih takes a close look at what's missing in the current techniques and offers a different approach that hopefully represents a part of "The Real Future of Gaming."
