New York Comic Con Day Two Thoughts

I finally managed to stumble upon Aksys Game's small booth where they showcased the anticipated WiiWare game, Bit.Trip Beat. In a word, it is trippy (and bitty and beaty). The game is played with one Wii Remote being held like an NES controller and tilted forward and backward. Bit.Trip Beat is a lot of fun despite the fact that I couldn't discern what the hell was going on. I think I built up a multiplier. It is a weird marriage of Pong and communism. If I figure it out by the end of the Con, I'll write some impressions. If not, I'll add more depth in my next blog post.

After a stop at the Ubisoft booth where I oogled the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Smash Up trailer and stared at Tenchu: Shadow Assassins for a minute, I came back to the Sega booth. Sega has done a very smart thing at the New York Comic Con. Each day, they're giving away a different T-shirt with a caveat: you have to play MadWorld, The Conduit, and House of the Dead: Overkill. Twist my arm, Sega.

After enjoying another romp through a level of Overkill, I played some more of the Conduit. While a friend of mine was playing it, he was heckled by the main character's voice actor, Mark Shepherd of Firefly and Battlestar Galactica fame. "You killed me," he said when my friend died. He proceeded to hang around and talk to us about the game and what it means for the Wii. Apparently Shepherd is a big fan of Metroid Prime 3 as that was the only game that he believed is comparable to the grandeur of the Conduit. He had a lot of kind words to say about the game and it's nice to see a voice actor be truly exuberant for a game he is working on.

I also took another spin on the MadWorld train. I already posted my impressions, but it is just such a damn fun game. Two members from Platinum Games were also there signing autographs, so I got a copy of the MadWorld box art with what appears to be an onion and some Japanese characters written on it.

I played some more RooGoo: Attack for DS as a respite because there are seats for it. I've never played RooGoo before, but I enjoyed playing it a lot. I'm going to try to talk at greater lengths to the representative at the Con about the Wii and DS iterations tomorrow.

I checked out the PlayStation 3 version of Ghostbusters and I like the Wii version a lot more. My developer crush on Red Fly Studios aside, there is a certain indistinguishable charm about the Wii version's cartoony graphics that make me enjoy the atmosphere more.

My day ended when my legs began to hurt a lot and the line for the Venture Brothers panel was very long.

Tomorrow I've got an appointment with Rockstar Games for Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars and I still have to take a better look at Sonic and the Black Knight and Overlord Wii.

I'm interested in seeing those T-shirts.I'm looking forward to RooGoo impressions.

I'll post some pics at the end of the weekend.
So far I have two MadWorld t-shirts, a Conduit t-shirt and I should get a HotD t-shirt tomorrow.

How does TMNT look? The screenshots I've seen look like they're straight out of the recent movie.

All they had was the trailer that's been circulating the interwebs. It doesn't have any gameplay footage but I'm still pumped.
