Kicking off this week's show, Alex and Scott go in-depth with New Super Luigi U. Should you pick up the surprisingly challenging expansion pack? We think so! After that, conversation turns to other Nintendo franchises that could utilize DLC in the future. How about Pokémon microtransactions or new weekly Zelda dungeons?

In the second half of the show, Neal, Andy, and Nicholas break down the recent Game Gear releases on the 3DS Virtual Console. Which of as many as 13 Sonic games deserves your attention? Find out here!

Talkback

Thankfully, the two games that would be more ripe for exploitation of paid DLC - Animal Crossing and Pokemon - are the two games where the development teams are stridently against it. And Pokemon's been doing DLC since 1998, so they're perfectly comfortable with free content over the life of the system.

They'd rather have you spend a little time going out and talking to someone - or more realistically, setting up trades here - than paying money for things.

The Animal Crossing team is OK doing DLC, just more select about it.

Pity that Smash Brothers will not have DLC.

Sakurai never said that

Didn't Sakurai say he had no current plans but was open to the idea of DLC. Though after Fire emblem Awakening and depending on how Super Luigi does I could see a lot of Nintendo franchises receive DLC support in the future.

I disagree that smash bros would be limited to four characters like other fighting games. Most other fighting games only do four characters as a way to keep balance for tournament play and as pre-production for the next fighting game is started. Smash Bros isn't that tournament heavy and is a once in the generation type of game.

I also think Zelda would be perfect for DLC. It doesn't have to be a random weekly/Monthly dungeon. For a game like Zelda I would see it more in the line with how Bethesda has done Fallout/Elder Scrolls DLC. It really depends on the story for the next game. The ending of Skyward Sword would be ripe for post game story DLC. The Game itself has a good enough ending with everyone going to the world below to found Hyrule. DLC would be about new dungeons or story bits of Link and Zelda starting Hyrule. You could also do legends style DLC where you go back and tell untold story of the links of past games.

Pokémon monietization would be past regions. Probably won't happen since it kills the remake machine but it would be nice.

Looking at upcoming Nintendo releases I would say.

Pikmin 3- Olimer side story if he isn't in the main game's story.
The wonderful 101- can't really think of any
Mario Kart 8- new tracks and karts.
Super Mario 3D world- New DLC from the younger guys like the NEW super Mario bros 2 packs were
X- Skyrim style dlc
Bayonetta 2- multiplayer stuff
