Solo album? Are we breaking up?

I don't really know what kind of episode this is. Experimental?

Earlier this week the gang and I recorded a super-cool, 90 minute epic podcast with tons of impressions on the latest games, news, and an extended feature on point-and-click adventures. It was pretty great. We even had Jonny's friend Kevin join in for some extra knowledge.

Then my computer crashed before I could save my audio file. Yay!

So I recorded an entire (read: mini) episode on a lonesome Tallahassee morning. With a can of Mello Yello and a fierce cough (you'll probably hear me wheeze here and there), I ventured out to give you the best my voice has to offer. Wait... where are you going? COME BACK, YOUZ!

There's still a lot to be found here, though. Impressions on Battalion Wars II, Zack and Wiki, Naruto: Clash of Ninja Revolution, all in the first ten minutes! Then we get to the news, like Resident Evil's CG movie, Smash Bros. level designer, and much, much more.

See ya next week, folks!

Talkback

This is a podcast you should listen to if you are one of the following people:
- People who want the podcast to be shorter
- People who were asking for one-person podcasts
- Kairon (you get a shout-out)

This is a podcast you should not listen to if you are one of the following people:
- People who like super-long podcasts
- People who want more people on than usual
- vudu (it's only me, so there's no "voice of reason")

Giving it a listen right now.

OMG OMG OMG Listening!

shammackNovember 01, 2007

I was awake at 8:45 or whatever time you said; you could have called me up.

I don't have much to say about this episode. Zack and Wiki is indeed awesome. And I agree that the create-your-own Smash Bros. stages look kind of crummy, but frankly, most of the real stages look just as bad, and I'm wondering if this make your own stage thing is to blame. Most of them just seem like platforms in front of an animated background, which is okay in moderation, but I hope we get some that have some kind of actual shape to them.

Sad, the only time I get a shout out is when I am being beat up for suggesting Wii would sell out on launch. Oh wait, that was a great shout out because they ate their words! Yeah for holding grudges.

that Baby guyNovember 01, 2007

I'll give it a listen if I get a chance. I've only listened to a few, not because I didn't like them, but that I couldn't bundle a chunk of time together before the podcasts would become obsolete.

If I actually used my ipod and even opened iTunes, I'd subscribe, so one day, I might even get to it! I don't really use that iPod, though, so that may not be any time soon.

re: Battallion Wars II

Yeah, you actually have to play the original because if you have, then the sequel WILL look better in comparison. I actually acknowledge all your complaints, but...well... geez, if you think the voice acting is bad now, try playing the first one. Even the cinematics in the first BW were painful to the eyes!

Either way though, BW is a true niche title, and it was never going to be a breakout hit. Nintendo fans who thought it was going to rock the boat in some manner are misleading themselves.

re: Mila Jovovich

Boobs? Seriously, it isn't about that. There were no boobs in Dummy, if I recall, just a great cast including Illeana Douglas and Academy Award Winner Adrian Brody!

re: EXCEPT FOR KAIRON

AWESOME!!!

Actually, I was hoping for something a little bit more substantive, like some CREDIT for sending you guys stuff via the tips system!!!

re: shorter podcasts

This is a pretty decent length, 25 minutes... it would be perfect for 2-3 people discussing one topic, but for one person, it really should be more like 10-15 mintues.

Actually some of us would have been happy with local co-op, don't consider that rocking the boat when The Simpsons has it!

You told him to listen to it because he was mentioned, when the only thing you said was "except for Kairon"? Weak face-icon-small-thumbsdown.gif

I know, but hey! They know my name! *squeal*

ShyGuyNovember 01, 2007

Holy Crap, look at all this! Did Karl bribe people to listen and comment? face-icon-small-wink.gif

It's shorter. Also, I'm in it.

Well, this one's actually on time? And it's shorter? I guess that's what people wanted, eh?

I dont care about the length, as long as i get a podcast full of RFN humor its good enough for me.

shammackNovember 02, 2007

It's not the length that counts. It's how you use it.

Also the width.

ShyGuyNovember 02, 2007

Rats, cause I liked the longer podcasts myself. face-icon-small-frown.gif

Ditto. I want one big podcast per week and short little 5 minute ones daily discussing the biggest news item of the day.

Chile BoyNovember 02, 2007

i love the weekly long podcasts i listen on itunes so i can listen to 1-76 all week long till the new ones come

CericNovember 02, 2007

So was it a mac?

that Baby guyNovember 02, 2007

It's not really that I want it shorter, it's that I want in easier-to-digest segments. Essentially, I want it all chopped up and released, rather than feeling like I have to eat an entire cake. I'm no Booster.

I actually LIKE your guy's pacing.., just, why present 3 segments all in one podcast? Why not make each segment it's own 20 minute standalone talk? That's practically the same thing on your end(in fact, would probably give you more flexibility in scheduling or even cast attendance), and in much more bite-sized chunks for your busy listeners!

ShyGuyNovember 03, 2007

Okay, finally listened, but I missed the interaction. Karl should have at least insulted the other podcasters in their absence to add drama.

CalibanNovember 03, 2007

For a solo podcast it was quite good to hear, it wasn't boring at all.

Mila Jovovich isn't about the boobs, it's her silky white skin and those gorgeous eyes that make the difference.

I bought Naruto: Clash of Ninja Revolution but since I don't have anyone that plays with me I don't see the value in it, it is fun, but it's not something that I will fully enjoy or make most of it by myself.
Instead I will be trading it in for the Naruto game made by Ubisoft for the 360, the idea that I can virtually run around Konoha is very enticing to me, it would be cool if the same people from Ubisoft would make a similar Bleach (with Soul Society, Hueco Mundo, and the Human city) or a One Piece (this game would need a major budget) game, also the Naruto 360 game has an online Versus mode so that feature would actually benefit me because then I would have someone to play with.

Karl Castaneda #2November 07, 2007

We actually recorded a full, no-problems podcast this week. And it'll actually be up on time. Dare I say... we are back on track?

Reasons to listen to this week's episode include:
- Burchfield's back, if you're into that
- Obi is wrong about EVERYTHING and I get to correct him
- We actually got some really solid listener mail, and a good Mike's Crazy Mailbag.
- I get another chance to tell everyone how awful Paper Mario games are, and how inferior they are to Superstar Saga.

vuduNovember 09, 2007

Finally got around to listening to the podcast. I must say I was amused. Karl reading through the news stories on the main page while I followed along in my browser was a special treat. face-icon-small-happy.gif

Your opinion on Castlevania II is completely unwarranted and I have a feeling you don't have the slightest idea what you're talking about. I hope Jonny or Mike (or Jonny's friend Kevin, if he's old enough) had some better insight into the game in the original podcast. The game suffers from a really bad translation and lots (read: all) of the puzzles are completely inane by today's standards but the game was pretty revolutionary for its time. Show some respect.
