This week's VC update sees three new releases, but curiously, Nintendo is nowhere to be found.

After last week's pittance, Nintendo decided to step aside and let some third parties take center stage. Along with last week's TG16 no-show, Konami and Hudson are packing a one-two punch for shoot-em'-up fans, who are no doubt in heaven right now. As always, you can get the vital info for each of this week's new releases and what our staff recommends for your persual.

Public Games Expo Gets Name

by Steven Rodriguez - 10:31 am EST
Total comments: 8 Source: Press Release

The Entertainment for All Expo will occupy E3's former home in October. Update: It's open to the public, but only if the public opens its wallet.

Update: Next-Gen talked with event organizer IDG and discovered that the "open to the public" title has a little asterisk attached to it. Interested attendees may be a little disappointed to hear that the show won't be free; the going rate for a three-day pass will be $100. $33 a day may be a small price to pay for some people, but until we know what is going to be at the show, will it be worth it?

Tim and Chris Stamper have left the company they started almost 25 years ago.

When Rare Ltd. was purchased by Microsoft in 2002, it meant the end of the company's involvement with Nintendo's home consoles. Luckily, they've continued to support the Game Boy Advance (with games like It's Mr. Pants and Banjo Pilot), and later this year, they'll be releasing a new Diddy Kong Racing on the DS.

Nintendo follows up a merry Virtual Console Christmas with a not-so-happy VC New Year.

We'd like to wish Nintendo fans around the world a Happy New Year, because it seems as if Nintendo decided not to. This week's Virtual Console update is the worst since the service was launched, with only two new NES games available. (Actually, make that two old NES games.)
